If you're reading the reviews on the OVA then power to ya. I assume anyone watching an OVA for a third season of a show is probably just seeing if it's worth their time. Well I'll lay it out simple for ya: I love this show, it's not a masterpiece or anything just hits all the right buttons so my little monkey brain goes brrrrr. HOWEVER, I usually will only parse through OVAs since they don't usually do much for world building or moving the plot along.
And let me tell ya, I'm glad I gave this one my full attention. Probably one of the best
...
OVAs I've watched in years, it hits the comedic tone of the show perfectly. I actually laughed out loud multiple times during it. That being said, let's break down the categories:
Story: (8/10)
It's a simple enough one-shot: Bathhouse hijinks, we've all been there before. You won't be getting any moving character moments from this, but honestly that would've been a disservice to the episode if they did try shoehorning that in. It's popcorn entertainment; turn your brain off and have fun with characters I assume you like since you're this deep into the series run.
Art: (8/10)
Not much to say here, it's the shows regular style. You;re getting the same quality and it's pretty serviceable. Fan service gets a little...forced at times - but it's a hot spring OVA are you REALLY surprised at that fact? Another eight out of ten, anime titty was cool.
Sound: (8/10)
Again another no brainer. Sound design overall was good and the VA's really bring their A-game to the booth for the episode. The reactions were over the top but the situations they were in were over the top, it fit perfectly.
Character: (10/10)
You know these characters, and you know how well the show has worked in comedic beats over the last few seasons. This episode really shows how the writer knows how to incorporate the characters to fit into the framework of pure comedy. Obviously with a huge assemble like the show has a lot of characters usually front and center take a sideline bc it's an OVA, but Belt and especially Hermes really do some heavy lifting in this episode. Hermes had me at least grinning every moment he was on screen, a class act.
Enjoyment: (10/10)
I liked it, if ya couldn't tell from my above points and paragraphs. It was a refreshing take on the story that I just really enjoyed. It's nice to have characters you like just go off left field in a dumb plot every once and awhile, especially when they're handled as well as this.
So there's my review, if you like the show watch the OVA - I guarantee you'll at least like it. It's nothing ground breaking, but it's a better way to kill an odd 20 minutes than most. My total score is gonna be an 8.4/10!

Wow, only one review for a manga this old? That's a damn shame in my opinion. Well, here's something nobody asked for!
Kannagi was a show I got into based solely off the main girl looking cute - which seems to be pretty common. The show, and first 17 chapters of the manga the show is based off of, is framed as a slice-of-life moe harem romantic comedy. And boy oh boy, does that not even scratch the surface! Right after those chapters, the plot at large really kicks into high gear. If you have watched the show and are considering reading the manga, you should!
...
It literally ends right before all the best plot threads start up.
Anyway, that aside, let's get into the specifics:
Story (9/10):
The story is excellent. It can kind of drag in the beginning chapters as the slice of life comedy aspects really trump the questions the manga initially poses and can make it seem slow, but once the story gets into gear from chapter 20 onward it really makes up for it. My only complaints really are the beginning lag and some of the chapters toward the end seem to really rush plot points which could have been further elaborated on (but knowing the production schedule was riddled with health issues of the author, it's kind of forgivable). Overall it's great, and really what kept me in the series.
Art (8/10):
I find it hard to ever discuss art that exists in just a "good to very good" area. If the art is something like Berserk or Attack on Titan, you can gush and gush over the beautiful detail taken especially in two page illustrations. Kannagi has good art - the girls are cute, the designs of the characters unique and varied which serves their character. The town is well illustrated, and everything is decently serviceable to great the entire time. But it's nothing groundbreaking enough to warrant higher than an 8. To summarize it: You could totally make a wallpaper using some panels of the manga if you loved it, but you wouldn't feel especially compelled to do so unless you loved the series.
Character (8/10):
The main cast of Kannagi is a 10/10. Jin and his harem are *chefs kiss* magnificent. They all develop in meaningful ways and hit every mark for a harem romantic comedy. The reason the character section isn't a 10/10 overall all though is...the supporting cast. Some of the supporting cast is fantastic, both of the art club boys are funny and unique - really serving the story and comedy whenever they're involved. But the girls are just kind of...there. There's also a late story development involving one of them that's just kind of...rushed? Without spoiling anything major, it's just kind of like they needed someone new to plug a heroine role and they upgrade her for the last arc. But overall, you'll love most of the characters for their individual strengths and attributes.
Enjoyment (10/10):
I really, really liked the manga. Obviously like I said the beginning was kind of slow for my taste (which I experienced through the show, so nothing too major), but once it hit its stride I basically read through it all in one sitting. I was pissed when I was too tired and had to sleep before continuing to read, which is always a good sign. If you liked the show, even a little, you'll love the manga. It's an absolute treat the whole way through, especially the further you go into it.
Overall (9/10):
Kanaagi should have more attention to be honest, it's kind of a sleeper hit. That's the brutality of a production schedule marred by real life events though. I did not expect to be such a fan going in, I was kind of just hoping to get a time waster while waiting for the world to stop burning so much. If you're curious about the manga, even just slightly, go for it. It's worth the payoffs presented in the early chapters 100%.

I'm gonna start this review off by saying this: When watching anime, you gotta know what to expect. If you aren't a fan of Isekai, well you're probably not going to like this show. And if you're going to expect this to be a deep show that challenges the norms...well you probably aren't a fan of Isekai. And a lot of the reviews I see are kind of reflecting that, a bunch of people are calling this generic and not very entertaining.
Now, I disagree with that.
See I know there isn't much depth presented here. It's your normal power trip fantasy isekai that we've come to
...
know and begrudgingly watch (especially this season with the pandemic and all). But this one, oh, this one is fantastic.
This anime turns every single trope up to 11. And I mean, 11. Kirito sucks because he kind of just white knights his way through the plot with his white knight plot armor in SAO, but the way he's presented originally he kind of just comes off as some random schmuck. His progression isn't very organic and he's way too holier-than-thou.
This MC starts out overpowered. He's canonically 1 month old, he's just that good. You're not put off by his power level because you know it going in. But that's not all you need to make an overpowered MC work, a few seasons ago there was a show called "The Magician's Grandson"(or something idk it was pretty bland), which had the most uninteresting MC. This show though? Oh this MC has charisma for days. He does come off with holier-than-thou protagonist syndrome sometimes but it's overshadowed by him mostly being a dick to people. He knows he's the best and doesn't care, and that's so important to this type of story.
Anyway that being said, lets get into the specifics
Story - 7/10.
It's nothing wildly new or unexpected. You can probably predict the outcomes of things. But the slight political intrigue is pretty entertaining to watch, especially with the Royalist plotline. It's not going to knock your socks off, but the story is more of a vehicle to the character interactions and over-the-top action which I think is completely fine for the story this show is trying to tell. A good sign of a story is when I go to read the manga to skip ahead while a show is airing, and while I did do so more to see whatever other insane stuff would happen, I did do so none the less.
Art - 8/10
The art is good. These sections of my reviews are typically longer when I have complaints, but no the art is good. The character designs aren't the most unique which kind of draw away from the overall appeal, but the animation is great I don't really have any complaints about it.
Sound - 7/10
It's good! The VA work never made me think these weren't characters in a story and the sound editing is pretty unnoticeable. The score to the show is decent and I really have nothing bad to say about it. I've studied sound design at Uni, and I thought this was a good job overall.
Characters - 8/10
Now, I know I gushed about it in the opening portion of this. And if the MC was the only character, this would be a 10/10 because of how hillariously tropey this is. I could watch him all day. However, his cast of side characters range from Great to...well they're okay. His parents being doting and loving was a fantastic foil to his serious edgy character. Especially since he loves them for it, it makes their interactions a joy to watch. His classmates/harem are rather...eh. They're tropes, and the arc(s) focusing on the sister relationship are fine but really suffer when the MC isn't on screen. Bonus points are awarded for the MC having an in universe fan club though, that is hillarious.
Enjoyment - 10/10
I like trash. I love seeing this tired genre played straight turned up to 11 and watching it. Is this going to be a hallmark of storytelling? No. But it's fun to watch, and that's all I really wanted going in. If you can turn your brain off a bit and just enjoy the absolute absurdity of this show, you'll love it. If you ever wanted a character so overpowered he beats the hell out of an enemy with his literal heartbeat? This is it. If that one sentence intrigues you, I recommend it.
Overall, 8/10 it's pretty fun. Not going to be the anime equivalent of Breaking Bad, but it's like a late series Fast and Furious movie. It's ridiculous, it's fun, it's something to watch when you just want to have a good time with some friends.
