GATE: Jietai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri 2nd Season could have been better than it was. The first season raised an interesting argument: the crash between the society from 21st century and a fantasy world. However, in this second season, this argument could not be the main story line, they had to create new arches. And that new stories are boring and predictable. Let's analyze it by point.
Story (4/10):
The story is very predictable from start to finish and argumental arches are not at all groundbreaking. Worst of all is to see how each thing that the "good characters" do always works perfectly well leaving zero
...
tension to a plot that is not very interesting.
Art and sound (7/10):
I do not really get into animation, but as I consider it decent and there has not been a moment when my eyes bleed, it's quite acceptable. Also, the soundtrack is nothing incredible although the opening is quite good.
Characters (5/10):
Let's face it, if I put a 5 is for Rory Mercury. It's the only character that seems to me half interesting. I really do not understand how there are people who can draw attention to a blonde elf or a short mage. They are very cliche and very flat. And to top it off, the new characters of this season are not very different from that model, nor even the main antagonist.
Enjoyment, overall (5/10):
Despite that, GATE: 2nd Season is not bad to hang out as long as you do not go looking for a serious anime and you really do not claim to be much more than what you presented in your first season.
That's all folks,
Kenel
