...then you might like Seishun Buta Yarou wa Yumemiru Shoujo no Yume wo Minai add

Both Anime have a very similar, dark tone and atmosphere. The plot is also suprisingly similar to the point where a complete coincidence is hard to believe, having the Main Character try to save the ones he loves alone without any idea how to. And even if I think Haruhi Suzumiya is far better at almost every level, everyone should check out both movies if they are interested.

Since this pair of anime feature an unknown threat with seemingly impossible explainations and tons of scares which give you goose bumps no matter if you watch it on day or night. At the beginning, we know barely anything about the ongoing things which keeps you on the edge every episode; Moreover, pieces of information are split up over every episode so that you constantly experience logic plot twists.

Kaneki Ken has to deal with his abrupt transition as a ghoul, while Shinichi Izumi has to live, co-exist, and survive with an alien who has merged with his hand. In either case, both main characters have to struggle and fight for their lives as their new predicaments deal with the mysterious unknown.
