Almost everything about the anime works well - the visuals are nice, and the CG works better in the latter episodes, when they probably realized that better lit scenes somehow look better, the songs are anywhere from fine to awesome, the characters are interesting, though severely under-developed.
Unfortunately, the problem is the MC. She's someone who ran away from home, ready to face the world on her own, even if her parents still help her out with money and even set her up with a place to live. With this situation, you'd expect that by the end of the series (especially after her trip back
...
home) she'd grow, get over her bullying incident and become a better, more mature person, right? Well, that's the issue, that doesn't happen.
She starts out as an annoying, clueless kid, who's lucky enough to run into a (slightly) more mature and normal person who puts up with her childish behavior. But then more members join up, and she just keeps on dragging them around into her own imagined battles and whatnot. It's infuriating to watch, especially the many times they have VERY LOUD arguments in public places, mostly in restaurants...
If you manage to ignore the MC, you'll enjoy the rest of the anime, but if you can't do that, I recommend you stay away from this.

There are some anime out there that are just important to the whole genre, and I feel like this should be one of them, as it is probably the best one to showcase how the otaku culture was in the early 2000s.
For younger audience members especially, this is a trip to a past they never got to experience, but at least can learn about.
I watched it subbed back in early 2010s, and I just finished watching the dub version now, and it's very good! I can't explain it, but it sounds like a 2004 anime!
All in
...
all, this is our history as anime fans (or otakus), and for that reason alone I can only give it a 10 and urge everyone to give it a watch!

After a first season that introduced us to a protagonist that was a loner, sarcastic but smart guy and a few good laughs, we got this season where everything that was enjoyable turned into something depressing.
Story: nothing to say here, they take different tasks that only create tension in the club, and the "romance" does not progress at all, all we get is vague talk-no-jutsu over and over again.
Sound: terrible, the overly-dramatic music became a constant reminder that this is no longer a fun anime, but something "serious".
Art: No question about it, it looks better than season one, with noticeable differences on
...
the character design front.
Characters: Ok here is where the confusing part is: our MC is no longer an independent, lonely hero, he's been dragged around to camps and dates and meets and club jobs all that, it's extremely annoying to see how little control he still has over his life. When he says "i'd rather stay at home" he never does, he's always going alone with everyone else, to the point where he states that he wants to understand and get along with others (point at which images of the "normie" group are shown), which in itself is not a bad thing, but it also paints "being a loner" as being undesirable, and i find that to be absolutely disgusting.
The teacher is always trying to control him, while using vague "philosophical" talk, instead of just saying what she wants, and that mantle is later on taken by Yui's big sister who also constantly interferes in everyone's lives.
In general, most characters are presented as two-faced, annoying teens and that gets tiring after a while.
Enjoyment: I found myself unable to enjoy this season, mostly thanks to the tonal change when compared to the first season. I find that the title "My Teen Romantic Comedy" no longer fits this show.
Overall, I have very little hope that season 3 is going to be any different, not with the terrible ending this season had.

I'll start by saying that Another is an anime adaptation of a manga that according to MAL ran from 2006 to 2009, so i feel really bad for giving it a low rating because from many standpoints, the anime was excellent.
The art and sound in particular are phenomenal, for a 2012 anime it's top notch from a technical point.
Now i haven't read the manga, but i can only guess that because this was released over the course of 3 years, the author could not go back to change things that maybe later down the line don't really work well anymore. And so we're left
...
with a lot of things that don't make much sense.
I'll provide some dialogue that left me speechless:
"Have any teachers died?" "Only homeroom and assistant homeroom"
"Seven people died in 1996, that's not many"
"Let's split up and look for *the probable killer*" (while being unarmed)
"Call 119" said within hours of them trying to do that for a kid who suffered from an asthma attack.
Then there are parts like how when the hotel owner's wife goes mental and attacks 2 of the male characters, they can't outrun her, even if she is physically unfit and much older. Again soon after, one of them gets a tiny cut on his leg that causes him to be unable to move even in this life-or-death situation.
We then have a case of "instant transmission" where Kazami (guy with glasses) kills a classmate in episode 12 when the footage clearly shows him to be nowhere near her. And to put salt on our already wounded brains, he then confesses that he always suspected Sakakibara, yet in a twisted logic, instead of killing him first, he decided to go on a killing spree before.
There are many other things that don't make sense, but if you've watched it, you already know how often this happens.
All in all, as an anime it failed to tell a coherent story, and while there are a lot of very tense and intense moments, as well as incredibly satisfying death scenes, it's not enough to make it warren even an "average" mark.

I dunno, i really liked the 1st episode, and it was all good up to like episode 5 when they officially got together. But then instead of focusing on their relationship, they started showing other couples and having them get together(or not)
Now don't get me wrong, i wouldn't usually mind that, but in an anime titled after the names of the 2 main characters i was expecting to see way more of those 2. Sure, we got some more, but even that was underdeveloped, like the whole proposal thing that was treated as it never even happened! It's like the creators of
...
such work are afraid of having more than some high school romance and for the life of me i can't understand why that is.
Miyamura and Hori are such a good couple, it's a total waste that they got less screen time during the 2nd half....i wanna see them go to college, get married, have kids, do stuff that we don't see in 99/100 romance anime...
Oh i forgot to add, Hori was such a "mom" in episode 1, taking care of her brother, doing the house work, but later on her mom started being home more often for some reason, right? Then we mostly saw her masochistic side - wanting to be slapped and talked dirty to, it's like instead of becoming more mature she became more of a child....
And Miyamura in episode 1 was so frigging cool, but after maybe 2 episodes he stopped using the pierces, we never even saw him dress in black like in the first episode, right?
Not to mention his hair...now i only watched it once and i'm no master but why was he out dressed like that in the first place? Did he seem like the sort of guy who'd wonder the streets dressed as a punk, or was he dressing like that at home too? And when did that start? Kinda seems like they added that just to have a convenient starting point but didn't really think of a back story for it, right?
All in all, this felt like watching a great movie -say Joker - but instead of being 2 hours long it's 4 hours and it has a lot of scenes that aren't pivotal to the main plot. Just having a longer movie doesn't mean it's a better movie, especially if it deviates from the main plot, right?
Overall, i did enjoy watching it, and for a romance anime it was very good, but it could have been so much better.

I am sure this anime would have received a lot less attention, had it not been for the name. Having the weakest of ties to the first story, this second anime lacks both the interesting time setting (later part of the 80s) and the plot (trying to maintain a love relationship with an idol) that the first one had. Not to mention the fact that the action takes place in the oh-so-generic-and-overused setting - high school.
What we're presented with here is a typical love triangle. If you've watched "romance" anime in the past, you're probably familiar with it by now. It doesn't deviate from the
...
pattern much, and that predictability makes it even less interesting - when 2 characters get together after only half the episodes have finished, you know that next in line is a lot of drama that will probably break them up.
The characters are, i would say, generic anime "impossibilities' - if you listen to their dialogue, it's quite clear that there aren't any actual high school teens who talk like that. This is the sort of dialogue you come up with in the middle of the night when you think about how you could have replied to someone during the day-it doesn't feel natural at all.
Other than the main trio, the other characters, tho barely present, do have some resemblance of normalcy, usually trying to set things straight and prevent the 3 from making stupid mistakes.
From a technical point of view, the animation is, i guess, decent, tho less realistic than "White Album". The songs are mostly covers from that series too, so at least in that regard everything is ok.
All in all, this does little to stand out in the over-saturated "love triangle romance anime" category. Forgettable at best, maddening at worst.

This is another very difficult series to review. On one hand, you have a setting that is hardly ever used in anime - the mid '80s, which means most of the convenience of today's life is missing. In one of the episodes this season, they even go out of their way to show how "portable phones" looked like back then! The art style really fits that period, and so do the clothing and cars and everything shown, and the way idols are depicted is nostalgic-they were just great singers with a bit more charisma. You also have something equally as rarely depicted, the challenges of
...
dating someone famous!
On the other hand, you have a convoluted story at times, and what i consider to be, so far, the worst MC in any anime i watched.
I previously mentioned charisma, and i feel like this guy is missing any of it. He somehow, while not being well spoken or showing wit in dialogues or actions, gets everyone to fall for him. He cheats his girlfriend with more women over the course of both seasons, and somehow. even when the girls find out, they still are ok with it.
What makes the show worth going through for me are the secondary characters (shoutout to Haruka, best girl ever) and the music and animation, but the story of a boring, good looking guy who cheats his way to the finish and gets away with it really drags the whole show down a lot.

First, a question: can a review on this show be truly objective? Just by looking at the ratings, i can tell that the answer is, clearly, a definite NO.
That means other than the beautiful art and sound (especially the ending theme that is used to a great effect), everything else is up to the viewer to decide.
In my case, i watched the whole anime in one sitting, and the episodes felt like they were 10 minutes long! There aren't many shows that can do that, and keep me from ever getting bored. And that, for me, is why i rate it so highly.
...
The flawed characters are also something that some people might not enjoy, and in a way the story isn't that realistic, because so many broken people aren't likely to mingle like that, but taken separately, each relationship feels real.
Most people probably expected a happy ending, but with so many complicated tie-ups, someone was bound to end up alone anyway.
Like some lord somewhere said: "Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" and i think that's a good ending for their new beginning.

I'd like to start by explaining why i rate this as highly as i do. The harem genre is something i rarely get involved with - the main reason for that is because from the few harem anime i did watch, they never got anywhere in terms of romance. When i found this series, the main thing that got my attention was this movie, particularly the "Finale" part. Finally, i could witness the "end-game" of one!
It's impossible to talk about this movie without at least mentioning the previous seasons, even tho in a way this has very little in common with the way the
...
story and characters were at the start of the journey. Let's not beat around the bush, the first season is pretty much your typical harem anime where they just dance around one another, not much to say about it. However, the things started moving much better in the second season. The characters showed growth, they stopped being just objects revolving around the main character. And that leads us to the movie here.
It's pointless to talk about stuff like animation, music, character design and such, they were very good in the previous seasons and are even better this time - to be expected for a movie (probably had a higher budget than both seasons combined). So all that's left is the story and the characters- and this is where this transcends the typical "harem" tag and goes fully into the romance genre. I may be a bit biased because Megumi is my favorite girl, and in the end i would've been happy if he ended up with any of the others too. But this is the thing - the story ends with Tomoya and Megumi graduating, moving together, opening a game studio and being happy together. From episode 1 to this, it turned from "just another harem anime" to "THE harem anime" that i can proudly recommend to anyone who's reluctant to give this genre a try!

What can i say, it's one of those anime that you can re-watch every few years and take great joy in it, because of its episodic nature and lack of a serious main plot. The characters are great and the humor is fitting for such a "cutesy" series!
The voice actresses all did a phenomenal job, and as a piece of interesting trivia, there are no male characters in the whole anime.
Hitoribocchi does suffer from a somewhat ambiguous ending, giving the impression that a 2nd season or at least a few OVA episodes were pretty necessary, but unfortunately that hasn't happened yet, and probably never
...
will, but i like to think that they all went on to have a lot of fun in their remaining school life!
