Story: 7
The story begins with a mellow, non-serious tone regarding sex, gender identity, and sexuality. There are a range of characters that show parts of the LGBTQ population, including gay, lesbian, transwoman, transman, nonbinary, etc. Starting from the "ladyboy" café, the manga eventually delves deeper into Mogumo's family situation. That is when things get darker, perhaps too dark too quickly for this mostly light-hearted manga. It is a start for those who do not understand much about the LGBTQ community, but not the manga that delves deeper into the issues that people of the LGBTQ population face from all aspects of society and different kinds
...
of people (based on religion, politics, upbringing, etc.).
Art: 8
The art is moe, which I don't mind. The art can get grittier to demonstrate emotions and seriousness of the topic at hand especially when it comes to Mogumo's family situation.
Enjoyment: 6
Development of characters and the story can be jarring at times. It would be appreciated if the manga had more chapters to develop the story and characters more.
Characters: 6
As a nonbinary person myself, this is a decent representation of one. Mogumo-chan has cutesy interests and does no ot identify as a boy or a girl, just like me. Mogumo does not follow the stereotype of nonbinary people preferring to wear "androgynous" clothing. However, there should have been more to Mogumo. Being nonbinary should not be the only trait that Mogumo has. They could have expanded on their personality more. I could say the same for the other characters. They seem to only like cutesy stuff and then there is there sexuality or gender identity. There is more to the LGBTQ population than being part of the LGBTQ. As for Mogumo's boyfriend, he really is just there to be an ally and nothing more. His personality traits are to be caring and he fell in love with Mogumo just like that. Their relationship was really quick and sudden with little to no development.
Overall: 7
If you would like an introductory course to all things LGBTQ, go ahead and read this manga. If you know alot about the LGBTQ, this manga may disappoint.
