I will start this review with saying I'm not a fan of harem anime, pretty much as a rule, but this was cute.
Many of the negative reviews I think aren't seeing the satire of the show. As the series progresses I imagine we will see 100 romcom tropes condensed down into tiny moments with each of the love interest. In this first season it has already given us a hilarious tsundere that starts the majority of her lines with 'it's not like im doing *insert literally any action here* because i want to or anything'. Hilarious. Then there is a cold beauty that acts
...
like a robot. Also hilarious.
The whole thing is a joke on the romcom industry.
It is because it's a joke that makes it so wonderful. The cute moments are adorable, and genuinely if you go through all 12 episodes and cut all the moments with any of the girls together it would run VERY CLOSE to how that romance would go in a basic anime.
With the announcement of season 2 I am pleasantly optimistic, but I must admit I'm not sure how long the joke will be funny. Much like how the satire of Austin Powers was lost half way through the second movie, these kinds of gags are only funny for so long. I'm not sure if it will be able to keep up the goof for 94 more girlfriends.
One of my personal biggest turn offs for Harem is that there is one specific girl (or guy) that the lead is into and is clearly end game, yet the protagonist has no problems indulging and leading the others on.100 girlfriends doesn't have that problem because he loves all of them equally and they all know about one another and are cool with it (because soulmate magic and what not).
Anyways that's the review. It's cute and definitely stands out from this specific genre. The whole thing is clearly satire and genius. Don't read too much into it and just have fun. Over all neat watch.
