Okay, lets get the mundane out of the way - sound and animation is fine. And the story is almost nonexistent.

Now, where it gets bit weird - This is a "show" about talking egg. And it's very powerful in it's minimalism. And I relate to that character. Just wow. Just like one becomes truly knowledgeable by realising how much there is to learn this show makes you think about how shitty your life is compared to a goddamn mascot egg.
Is this a real life? What is a meaning of it all?

I don't know. All I know is that I will feel very sorry about getting ... scrabled eggs for a breakfast from now on.

Also, Sanrio are mental.

Soooo... apparently some teenager REALLY liked Evangelion and has parents rich enough to land him A1 to product his fanfiction. The show for me started as one having weird, even clickbait concept with meh execution. But the longer I watched it... damnit. Some stories ended too soon leaving writers having to fill the time with some... questionable choices.
Wordbuilding is garbage, most characters are meh, the show is as edgy as Linkin Park (aka it's great unless you already went thru puberty) and has more plot-holes than medium to low budget porn. Oh, and the plot twists. Just kill me.

But I'm glad the show exists, ... with this and Gun Gale being pretty decent show so far we as a community can finally leave SAO behind and give a spot of worst mainstream animu to this abomination. It's just such a beautiful trainwreck of a show.

TL;DR dissapointment for everyone acquainted with Junji's art, mediocre show for everyone else and certainly no proper deciption original material.

I must admit, I was exited when I first heard of this series. Excited, but sceptic at the same time. Putting my reservations aside I finally decided to start watching it.
And well... It's a 5/10 show. Boring at every step with no standout moment nor quality. Why 3 then?
The answer is simple - the source material.
The last thing that should've been said about adaptation of one of most disturbing mangas ever created is that it is forgettable. But to the shows defence - maybe there ... just is no better medium than manga for Junji's art? But on the other hand, there are some disturbing shows out there like Texhnolyze... I dunno. What I can say tho is that il just looks like the creators bit off more that they could chew.

I will be talking about the dubbed version. Why? Because I can and I will explain in a sec why I belive this is actually superior version.
The artstyle is nothing special for times it was made in, and is even a bit too bland in comparison to manga and even newest version. Characters are fun but you know, kudos to the manga rather than the anime here. And I would even go so far saying that the "I am DEVINMAAAAAN" thing was actually kinda anticlimactic comparing anime to manga, it was like attempt of making superhero movie with Jigsaw as the protagonist.
Let's go to the ... dub related stuff. The first thing that strikes the viewer is the noices indicating really poor quality recording tools and enviroment (like it was recorded with walkman in a basement or something), the second is lack of care about acting from the voice actors. It's like you were watching abridged version or some youtube poop. The edginess is overflowing from every sentence and I am really drawn to it. It is so bad it's good.

This is true out of body experience if watched with english dub. Otherwise don't even bother.

If Death Note's notebook became sentient and had an harlequin offspring made using in-vitro by 14 year old fanfiction writer with Battle Royale it would be this show.

Art and sound are okay, the rest could be described very well by Mira in dreamfall - as a sub-shit, a shit taken by a shit.

Story - pretty garbage survival game horror with major plot holes (per example if there is full surveillance on students why they are not being punished just for researching the game?). The issue I had was the way it is directed - it's confusing. I sometimes had really hard time saying if given ... scene was a retospective or not and it was for many reasons - bland characters(we will get to that), no visual distinction, the info screens (ripped of BR ofcourse) seemed to show both former and latter game which was confusing me to extreme. The punishment showcase also is introduced in shitty way as it should not happen after Mitsuko, I'm sorry, meant Natsuko's kiss as it is to prove that the game is real and life of contestants is meaningless, friggen retrospective has that right, why they didn't swap the introduction with the retrospective's introduction at least?

Characters - this is a nether of non developed characters. I don't even remember main protagonists name and I barely got through this. Let's call him Nanahara. No character, besides Natsuko has proper introduction, everyone is just friendly-nosey. What happens when truth about game is out? Still no development, instead whole class turns 180 into ruthless bullies while they should be terrified. Natsuko's 'change', which is one of main points of the story is terribly paced aswell, she looks more like she was possesed rather than she snapped. The episodes pass, we get to know more and more people, but most of them are either bland or sociopaths, I don't know why and I don't care.
I only cared about two characters, Kenta, which reminds me a lot of Sugimura from BR, and Natsuko which is a obvious Mitsuko ripoff (hence the name joke before).

There is violence and rape for the sake of them being there, the deaths which should be terrifying are ridiculous, even more so considering that everyone is so bland it's hard to care about anyone (besides Kenta maybe).
There is likely no magic or shinigamis in this universe, the digital virus can't control the body without there being no chip or cpu in the body and I can't see sci-fi tag anywhere around the genres. There is a diffcence between leaving mystery and killing the suspension of disbelief by not giving viewer not a single clue about how to logically explain the existence of the game.

I highly reccomend the writer watches Black Mirror in order to educate oneself about how to introduce technology to supernatural/horror stories, stops ripping of scenes and characters from classic Japanese movies, thinks a bit more about sequencing and showing what's at stake in the show and finally gives me back the 6hrs of my life which I had wasted on this 'masterpiece and are unlikely to get back.

And I highly NOT reccomend this show to anyone. Unless you want to study how not to write a story, then go ahead, you could write a book off this show alone.
