Why? What was the point of this remake?

Ranma 1/2 follows the same route as the Urusei Yatsura remake in that we are getting a censored remake of a beloved classic. Yes, talking about how they removed the topless fanservice that both series were actually famous for. It's easy to write off people getting upset about the censorship as perverts because, after all, why do you need tiddies in your anime? Obviously you don't. There are plenty of good series that don't have topless women. The response to that is why did they have to remove one of the aspects that these classic shows were famous ... for?

The original Ranma 1/2 came out at a time where showing tiddies on TV was extremely daring. It was a risky marketing tactic that worked. Not to mention with the whole gender flip-flopping gimmick the topless scenes actually made sense. The original manga & adaptation did what they wanted completely uncensored and unrestricted. Aside from an updated art style and animation style, the remake is just an inferior copy which you have no reason to watch unless you just really don't want to see nipples... which is kind of weird.

I actually enjoyed the first episode of the new adaptation until he got the topless scene where the nipples were removed. If the topless scenes are so integral to the story that you can't remove all of them, then why censor the ones that remain? Now we live in this weird reality where nipples don't exist, and for what? Half assed censorship? If Netflix wanted to censor Ranma, they could've at least gone all the way. Now we've just got this weird bastardization of the source material that isn't in line with the original yet isn't completely censored.

I get it: "why are the tiddies so important to you?"
My counter to that is "why was it so important that they were removed?"

Who was this remake made for? What was the point of it?

I gave it a 1 even though it's probably more fair to give like a 6. This remake isn't particularly bad, I just absolutely abhor what it stands for.

Don't listen to those few top reviews. They were all made by people who watched 1-3 episodes and decided Onimai was bad because it has lewd loli shots and rated the show a 1. Using their negative lenses, the reviewers absolutely nitpicked the stupidest things to justify their ridiculous ratings of a legitimately amazing anime.

There is plenty of degenerate trash that doesn't get the same backlash as Onimai, but Onimai's problem is that (aside from the lolicon in early episodes) it's actually good. People can stand degenerate trash and just ignore it, but when it has redeeming qualities you end up with Onimai. Yes, ... there is some lolicon fanservice, much heavier in the early episodes. Yes, it may be feel uncomfortable, and I did not like it.

But my God, the animation, voice acting, slice of life, pacing, and story of redemption & rehabilitation are too good to not give a chance. The production quality of this anime is so good that it is a shame that more people won't even give it a shot.

With Mushoku Tensei, Studio Bind gave us probably the best isekai ever made, focusing on the redemption of a shut-in NEET. With Onimai, Studio Bind gives us a slice of life practically on par with Mushokou Tensei, only this time the focus is on the rehabilitation of a shut-in NEET. As someone who was once a shut-in NEET, I absolutely adore these kinds of stories. You don't have to have been a NEET to like them as long as you like seeing someone struggling to (and succeeding at) making a drastic positive change in their life. I guess if you're the type of person capable of hating other human beings who cause no harm to others, except their down on their luck, then You'll find a way to hate both Mushoku Tensei and Onimai.

I'm not saying that there perfect, because they do have a problems. For instance: lolicon. I'm generally not a fan of lolicon, the word cunny makes me literally gag, but I can tolerate it on occasion. When you watch enough anime eventually get used to it. It's not a good thing. It's actually quite awful how much underage characters are sexualized within Japanese media. But you know what? Lolicon anime doesn't harm anybody. So if Studio Bind wants to pour their hearts and souls into making some of the greatest modern anime and then use their artistic freedom to put in lewd lolicon here and there, so be it. It doesn't mean that the rest of the work is bad. It just means that Studio Bind is a bunch of fucking degenerates, which brings me to my final point.

Onimai is an anime made for degenerates, by degenerates, about degenerates. The lolicon kinda amplifies that message, so as much as I dislike it, there is a purpose. Onimai and Vinland Saga S2 are the only two anime that are really worth watching from this season, shows that should reach beyond seasonal watchers. Just give it a shot. You will either be too disgusted to go on, or you'll push through the awkwardness and fall in love.

Worst Anime I've Ever Watched

I just made this account since I wanted to start logging my anime list (excuse the pun) and the first thing I did was come and make sure I gave this anime a terrible review. No thought was put into the rating segment. It just deserves a 1 for everything (especially effort).

I watched this show as it was airing 4 years ago or some shit, yet I can still remember just how awful it was. The first episode doesn't do an awful job setting up the story, but it's all downhill from there. BY FAR this is the worst anime that ... I have ever completed, let alone started. Why did I finish it? Idk. Maybe I'm a masochist.

I kept hoping that they would somehow capitalize on the mysterious aura the show set up for itself, but it just never fucking happens.

Anyway, moving on. I have almost 1000 more shows to log.
