6.79 as of writing this, and many people claim this to be a 2 or 3/10. To that I say please for the love of god watch something actually bad how in the fuck is this one of the worst things you've watched. I saw someone say the music was annoying, listen to some actually bad music please what is wrong with you. Also no in no world is Charlotte sadder than this, and I love Charlotte. There are much worse anime with higher ratings, even ones I like that do not deserve a higher rating then this.

I Became a God is currently the latest anime written by Jun Maeda and was so hated that the internet bullied out off writing anime, I was putting this off for a bit as I've been going through all of Key's visual novels and (good) anime adaptations/originals but as it turns out my suspicions I had before watching this were right, it's grossly over hated. The structure is the same as most Key titles but that's not a fault of writing more so of the "nakige" genre, start off comedic and get us to know the characters, admittedly Charlotte and Angels Beats! especially had stronger comedy but the Mahjong episode made up for that and the rest of the first half is still enjoyable plus I like Izanami. This isn't a case like Angel Beats! or Charlotte where I could see the branching routes from Maeda's visual novel writing just being used as arcs instead, episode 5 is set up in episode 1 and manages to get the only other sad moment outside the main arc where Angel Beats! had about 4 or 5 throughout and Charlotte has a few but really only one ever got me to even slightly cry, this got me at least 5 separate times during the last arc. What I found most interesting was how much of Maeda's other work I could see in this - the setting of the last few episodes was similar to Kanon, that scene in ep12 is nearly the same as the beach scene in AIR (hell I'd say this is the closes anime to AIR since it was made), Izanami is just Kotomi, the ep9 ED reminding me of 'Regret' from Little Busters!, the hacker stuff from Angel Beats! and some things from ep10 and Charlotte's presentation.
Is lacking in a random band having great songs but Natsu Nagi makes up for that, the OP and EDs are great and the rest of the soundtrack ranges from solid to wouldn't be out of place in Clannad (which is 10/10)
The one criticism I will agree with is that no this is not the saddest anime, it's not even the saddest Maeda work when you have Clannad After Story, or if we want to talk about darkest then AIR easily takes that with certain scenes in Kano's route - the backstory of Tohnos and both Summer and AIR routes endings, also Heaven Burns Red is in english now. I will say though in terms of anime originals he's made it's just behind Angel Beats! in terms of sadness. This also isn't even close to his worst work, just look at the tags for things that had to be in MOON. cause only eroge sold at the time on vndb, or even ONE. (which thankfully has an a lot better remake).
[spoilers from now on, some [major] for Clannad AS, AIR and Your Lie in April as well]
But anyway onto a criticism that kind of pisses me off, the representation of disabled people - I'm just going to say my interpretation of Hina losing the supercomputer is that it's a convenient way to be able to bring in the Dad without making it like he just abandoned her and have Hina be active so we can get attached to the character. I think the main message that is on display is that a person is still who they are if they do become disabled or are straight up lobotomized like Hina, people are quick to point out Youta being pushy especially with Hina's reactions to it but 1. He's on a time limit and 2. This fucking bitch over here who takes care of Hina constantly saying that Youta was speaking to a computer not the real Hina exists (and is very dismissive off him despite the fact he was actually her friend(/boyfriend I guess)), but if we apply my interpretation of the message that logic becomes 'she was like that before she was disabled, she's different now cause of disability, she's not the same person' which yeah is not good. I like that Hina's memory is still for the most part lost at the end but the fact she loved Youta (and everyone else) remains cause it's feeling not memory and the things she wants to do are still the same despite now having that disability. Also the foreshadowing on the drawings I saw from a mile away, people saying that is spinning it in dumb way are like the people who say Clannad's ending was bad cause they didn't pay any attention to the supernatural elements or Kotomi and Fuko. But yeah my main take away from the disabled part was that just cause they have a disability does not mean they're a different person, and they are still human which is a good message in no way do I see any negativity in it's representation of disabled people and it's treated delicately. The memory part is also covered in a just a bit better way in ef: A Tale of Memories (but that's one of my favourites so I'm biased). But yeah, extremely over hated and hell I'd put it just above Charlotte in Maeda's works, also anyone who actually wanted a bad end - wtf would have been the point of the rest of the show then, build up a character and have jack shit happen with her - even when it is a bad end you get something like the Haruka speech in AIR or the lie in Your Lie in April, there clearly is not room for that here.

First off AOKANA has a great concept and execution... in the visual novel. The anime removing romance has me feel less both towards characters and sports which you'd think would be improved cause it's given extra focus.
I finished playing both Aokana and EXTRA1 & 2 recently and they're all perfect imo, I've seen some people say the romance was a bit out of place at some points in the VN but this adaptation proves to me that "A story about girls flying through the sky and falling in love" (or something like that was shown at the Grand end credits) is a necessary part of ... This is the best fanservice I could've asked for from my favourite anime. It came as a real surprise since the Visual Novels have entered an indefinite hiatus since 1st beat was released and almost anything with the series seems to enter indefinite hiatuses. The only other thing we've got recently is the wedding dress figure (Which also surprised me when it was announced on my birthday)
Plot: After the end of Angel Beats! Kanade is searching for a certain person after being reincarnated. It pretty much takes place during the credits of Angel Beats! final episode and before the post credit scene. The set up of ... |
