STORY 8/10
Starts off very slow and i mean veeeery slow i wanna say up to chapter 70 nothing really happens but past that oh wow you're in for a shotgun blast love me a dark as hell ending! even though they rarely happen. Despite that the author managed to squeeze 2 chapters at the end of what where Punpuns life ended "happily". The whole story in itself is very ambiguous and open for your own interpretation I viewed it as a super slow paced psychological romance. Why did everybody describe this manga as insanely disturbing and gut wrenching traumatising? Even if this was hypothetically a ... readers first psychological I would not go that far so say that. There is this one quote i heard somewhere about "you must be childish in your teens because if you're childish as a adult then you just cringe" and I think that implies very well to describe Oyasumi Punpun along with the metaphor thats repeated a lot in this manga "you reap what you sow".

ART 9/10
Art is solid aged extremely well and is the main reason i gave it such a high score designs and clothes reflect the 2000s very well and show what life was like back then for us readers. Author can draw both genders very well and dosen't mainly focus on one and can mix match real life sceneries/buildings everywhere in this manga. I like how the author changed up Punpuns design every time to mirror his emotions at that current time.

CHARACTERS 7/10
I would say this is the mangas biggest weakness there is very little character development and the side characters do not get the spotlight they deserve in my opinion example Seki was a very interesting guy and would've loved to see more of him because he was someone you could relate to, well a side character is a side character. Although we didn't see much character development i can say that existing ones was very good. You could interpret the author is selfish just like Punpun and only let Punpun shine mostly.

Would i recommend this yea is a casual read good for anybody who have read similar stuff before, I would not describe it as bad manga in any way. I Don't know the motive for this mangas creation or what it is based on but i for sure respect what he managed to tell with this manga.

STORY 9/10
First off wanna say this author is crazy in a good way, never have i read that amount of information compressed into 47 chapters and didn't manage to rush or mess it up. Starts off amazing hooks you in with this really unique plot. Combines Romance, mystery, little bit of horror and sci fi and psychological. Ending was a bit too passive aggressive for my taste but it worked out at least and like many mangas i've read before didn't dump a hell ton of information all at the ending and leaving you just confused. That would just leave you questioning everything ... that happened before in the plot and leave your brain trying to make sense.

ART 7/10
Art is good overall female focused and not the best drawing males but author makes it work. Not much to say no unique style of drawing but it's good but considering this is the authors first manga aside from his one-shot is really good for a beginner and can improve of course.

CHARACTERS 8/10
Not many Characters but we don't need many if existing ones are good, good characters development for this short of a manga, we had some side characters and villains not be used to their full potential especially in the 3/4 of the manga this would've be a great balance considering the first half is very focused on our two main characters.

OVERRALL 8,5/10
Overall is the story carries the rest of this mangas weakness but yea if you read this far go read it!! Some good psychological without too much dark extreme elements that you might be used to and just a nice story!

STORY 6/10
Starts of as just a pretty dark psychological and I could respect that part from the author fair warning if you not used to reading these kind of manga or first time then it might be a bit shocking and appalling. Then around halfway we get a timeskip, cool but timed a little weird aaaaaaaaand now we get into a whole new slushfest that could've been a sequel or a whole other manga. Well anyway author managed to pull togheter a decent ending from this part of the story.

ART 8,5/10
Art is not bad at all! maybe is not the best style ... for deep psychological but author makes it work also does fighting scene surprisingly well, also good balance between female and male designs im so used to seeing artists being insanely good at drawing one gender and mediocre at the other.

CHARACTERS (8/10
Lastly the part that in my opinion carried this manga the characters. Good diversity kinda scared some are inspired on real life people this author knows but it made for some really immersive conversations and scenes in this manga.

OVERALL 8/10
Not good, not bad a fun quick read would i recommend to a horror enjoyer? yes. Would i recommend to the average manga reader? no.

Just wanted to say if you have not read the prequel Shonan Junai Gumi please read it before you start reading GTO. In my opinion, it's the peak of Onizuka and very different from maybe what you've heard or seen of GTO such as "oh you don't need to read it to understand blah blah" Nah just go read it its absolutely fire.


STORY 10/10
As expected from Fujisawa Tooru excellent story barely any flaws I definitely feel the mellowed out story has that kinda after story/life vibe (if you have read Shonan you know what I mean) I
loved the good action packed craziness ... with realism blended in here and there and especially the life aspects.

ART 9/10
Loved that the author continued his own art style from his previous works and not take a break to maybe change it up or get better. Funny faces, hot chicks, fighting scenes anything and everything really, one thing I noticed is everyone in this manga has period correct clothes which is awesome that he adapted his surroundings of the time this was publishing into his art.

CHARACTERS 7/10
Ok here is the biggest reason why I did not score this as a masterpiece, The characters were really average which was surprising and yea some were good but not really distinctive. I just thought the author would just bring back at least a couple of characters from the prequel which he did example Saejima Ryuuji Nagisa but really sucks that we BARELY see these especially Ryuuji like what the actual frick Onibaku is barely hanging on in GTO.. regardless of that I can see where the author wanted this manga to go and I can respect that.

Overall happy that this series goes on and there are side stories and not just abandoned because it's such a good series although still shocked to see Great Teacher Onizuka have a ecchi tag but not Shonan junai Gumi LOL anyway this manga is definitely worth re-reading.

STORY 10/10
Getting into delinquent manga I never expected to read such a dang good Story I feel stupid having watched Great Teacher Onizuka before reading this. It shows the entire history of oni baku. Love how realistic it flows through out from start to finish and the fighting on fighting fighting on fighting Was good, crazy and funny. There was a surprising amount of good romance involved some having me on the floor laughing. A problem I find in many manga is the ending doesn’t work with the build up but with Shonan it felt good yet not completely finished which is perfect ... because it got its sequel.

ART 10/10
Holy shit! cool ass bikes everywhere! What can I say the art is so good and old school and the scenes aged very well for a 90s manga You can really feel the yankiis, sukeban and bosozoku culture everywhere. I loved how the author can do both goofy funny art and detailed fighting art also giving Focus on scenery and very nice ladies designs.


CHARACTERS 10/10
The oni baku flowed so good with the entire story and I liked how the author gave side characters time to shine instead of just using them once and never Showing them again. Showing personal life of side characters was a very good touch making it even more realistic something you don’t see very often and made me understand them better even if it was a classmate or a villain.


OVERALL 10/10
