Surprisingly really good!
To better explain the premise...
_______
This is Chibis and mecha battles in purgatory-like world and collect "Quiam" which gives people memories from past life that work like currency or price for winning, but there are also risks of losing and memories disappearing again. When collecting enough Quiam, you can return to the living world.
And we follow a girl with suspicious robot head partner in these mecha battles.
_______
...
At first glance it looks like scifi show for kids with such chibi characters.
But truth is that this show has more depth with it's characters and memories from their original life and how they're doing now in this world.
The show is more constructed as archs for specific character we meet with our main girl.
Their struggles and memories from the past life and their development.
Some themes are definitely interesting and support well in these archs.
Despite being an online donghua the show also mixes different types of footages for storytelling, not just 3D animation that is already well done. They're clearly distinct and support the story really well and makes the show unique, memorable and shows strengths.
OP and ED are probably the best thing of this show and definitely will want you listen to it even outside of the show. I didn't even knew donghua can have such bops! You'll rarely skip these as even the visuals are great.
There are some weaknesses, as the main character might not be for everyone with her child-like bubbliness or some sound effects being used in some places. But that appears mostly in sillier moments.
With these archs of other characters we also somewhat sideline the main plot with the main girl and her developments move very slow or not move at all which is a bit shame. But the side archs are still good enough themselves.
Some characters that aren't main ones or arch focused aren't that memorable. But they do still support the story and worldbuilding.
First episode also doesn't help that much with proper story introduction and explanation of the world. And at least two-three episodes need to be seen to get actually understand what's going on.
Worldbuilding details and story relevant information can be a bit scattered.
But at the end it pays off with twists, connections and surprising moments.
I recommend this one, even if you know NOTHING about chinese animation or have low expectations of donghua overall.
(Unless you're epileptic, it features animated flashing effects in mecha battles)
