Both main characters travel to "other worlds". Both of these anime are beautiful and the worlds are creatively developed. Both stories have kick butt mech fights. Both stories theme's revolve around changing the world/fate/saving the world. Both have good romance plots.

Its has very similar overall plotlines. Both have a loner type character that is makes friends with supernatural creatures and learns to makes friends. Gugure! Kokkuri-san is more in the comedy genera vein while Natsume Yuujinchou is a lot more serious show. While Natsume Yuujinchou is more serious it has a lot of heart and ends up being the better of these two shows. If you liked Gurgure! Kokkuri-san, then Natsume Yuujinchou is a must watch anime.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is the romance version of Gintama. It has the same kind of humor. While it is a Romance, it spends its entire time making fun of the Romance genra, exactly how Gintama spends all of its time make fun of Battle genera. Both are 10/10 in the humor department. ... Similarities, hmmm.. They both take place in Japan.. I think. While not having much in common plot/setting/genera wise, IF you are looking for something that is fall on the floor spray milk out your nose funny, then go watch Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun. (Or vise versa.. since I didn't know this would show up on both anime's pages.)

They both have the same brand of humor. Additionally, both can draw you into the emotional moments of the story. Luffy is on a quest to become King of the Pirates, Ippo is on a quest to become stronger (aka, win the world feather weight championship). The composition, the mix of humor and seriousness, is the same. It doesn't really have similar setting and world , but that feeling you get from both anime are the same. Both are as great of a shonen series as the other.

Its not the setting or the animation that makes these anime similar, its the style. It has that way over the top epic action anime that makes you want to rooting for the characters in there fights. Other similarities: 1.) It is an action anime with fighting and wars. 2.) A large cast of epic charaters. 3.) All characters have that "Epic Man Fighting Spirit" thing going on.

1.) It has the whole medieval sword fighting fantasy thing going on (Though in Escaflowne there are mecha) 2.) It has the same dynamics with action, fighting, and romance. 3.) There are trapped in other worlds and trying to get home. Hitome, from Escaflowne, tries to get back to earth and everyone in SAO tries to leave the vitual world.
