I really wanted to like this anime, I really did, but it has simply too many flaws to be good, or even acceptable in my eyes. The first season of this was not good at best but I'm watching the second season because of the potential I saw in the first. Unfortunately, it seems that I was misguided because this season might even be worse than its predecessor.
Much like the first season of Hikari no Ou, the animation is simply woeful. It is lazily done and many scenes are genuinely hard to look at. Allegedly, some of the shots in this were done with AI,
...
which just shows the lack of care that was put into this production. I understand that the budget must have been quite small for this because some of the scenes are more like a powerpoint than a motion picture.
The story is actually quite good. I haven't read the book myself, but I'm sure the experience would be a far more enjoyable one than watching the anime. The main problem with the story is its pacing (at least in the anime). Many episodes feel empty, almost as if nothing is happening in them. Suddenly, the next episode will be filled with narrative progression, then the following episode will be devoid of progression again. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, but if this anime used them it would surely invest me more in the stoty.
The music is another positive. The anime's soundtrack is pleasant on the ears and the opening and ending sequences are also quite nice (Although there is a random beep in the opening, not sure if that was intentional or not). At least when the story's progression is slow, you can tune out of the story and tune into the soundtrack to remain engaged and immersed in the story
Overall, the anime's story is quite interesting and it has some positives, but the negatives greatly outweigh the positives to such a degree that I wouldn't waste my time watching this if I had known.
