The Poster child of Carnography.
All the imagery of demons and Nazis and stuff flying around is pretty uncomfortable, I see why this would be interesting or something people would watch. Its essentially just a big and fat middle finger and everything that shouldn't be shown is shown.
Middle fingers, gore, Nazis, demonic imagery, etc.
The art direction and animation is quite impressive for its time ignoring the small stints of abhorrent CGI. It very well suits the nature of the show and enhances it. However, there is something a little unnatural about some of the gore, so over the top that it
struggles to get that stomach curling
...
real life gore effect.
The soundtrack is over the top militaristic which fits perfectly.
The fights follow the same structure where a bunch of non important personnel are just absolutely trashed even though we know they will be. Yet the characters are surprised repeatedly. Then when the goat drops in, he is first shot to bits by the enemy, releases
his limiters and just overwhelms them with insane power.
While I understand the fights are supposed to just be a demonstration of his dominance, I feel like it could have been done
in a more interesting way. It just feels like an uncensored episodic power fantasy with extra steps. However, I will give it that it does not feel stale despite repeating what is essentially the same structure repeatedly.
There are several loose ends that keep you guessing that are eventually answered throughout and thus some form of subtlety and great storytelling elements are at hand which somewhat keeps your interest as the mysteries unwind.
The villains themselves are not interesting at all... absolutely unremarkable. The only somewhat interesting character, Alucard, is one who dances all over the idea of evil and good. His motivations and character is much more subtle and complex.
However, the same cannot be said for his direct antagonists, who in turn follow the same 1 dimensional over the top nature as the show itself. Villains for the sake of just being evil is a little uninspiring most of the time.
Hellsing Ultimate is so overblown and so stereotypically 1 dimensional. It's essentially gore and action for the sake of gore and action itself.
There's nothing extra to it and that isn't necessarily bad, but just like how a solid 1 dimensional shonen like demon slayer is just a solid 1 dimensional shonen and will never rank higher than a 7, this will not rank higher than a 7.
In this case not because its lacks quality compared to its compatriots, but its unsophisticated nature does not lend itself to multifaceted enjoyment. Those who will enjoy it will enjoy it to its maximum and those who wont will likely find it alright.
Hellsing does exactly what it is supposed to and does it to the fullest. Within its own category of what it is attempting to accomplish, it scores a 9/10. Sadly this is not what we are grading it on. From a more hollistic standpoint and my enjoyment
it cannot score more than a 7/10. Not for everyone but it is for someone. 6/10.

Your standard isekai power fantasy light novel/manga adapted into an okay ish anime.
It has some promising features. Although the animation is quite inconsistent sometimes borderlining on unwatchable to sometimes being above average. Ranging from fluid and flashy to stiff and robotic. The basic linearts are not too bad with characters having solid designs, however, at times the frames, especially inbetween or action heavy frames, devolve to detail-less basic panel drawings. Safe to say there was some potential overall for the quality of the animation to be really good, yet this may not have been exercised due to budget issues or other problems.
Honestly the story was
...
nothing significant, standard power fantasy elements of an overpowered skill or pulling some trick out of the hat every so often to defeat a more and more powerful enemy as they come. I have to sing it some praises insofar as the pacing and the way the story is structured into the 12 episode format was done quite satisfyingly. Additionally, fight solutions involved some thought on the part of the author/the main character which made it somewhat entertaining to see. Despite the fact that I would never myself recommend this to someone else, it still offers something through the watching experience and was not a complete waste of time. It might be important to note that I did fast forward through some sections, so, take that as you will.
The music design was quite unremarkable in most aspects and is forgettable but it does it's job without standing out too much or becoming a nuisance.
I'd like to absolve myself of writing a long or detailed review for this one since it was more of a turn my brain off and watch kind of show, however it wasn't by any means horrible. Just mid. 5/10.

Written on that tablet was: "Protect our heritage from the wicked"
Spriggan is a story that revolves around the non understood almost magical tech of ancient civilizations and the constant power struggle between world powers to shift the power balance by hunting these relics.
Oddly it has this strange sort of charm that lulls you in with the huge and incredible worldbuilding of ancient civilizations and advanced technologies which mirror some of today's mysteries and conspiracies, to secondary characters you cant help but cheer for or become invested in.
A lot of different shows have this problem where the setting is not well thought out and feels quite
...
claustrophobic. But the world here feels vast and endless. And this extra dimension of time just adds more curiosity. this allows them to really drill the concept of the world being in danger.
Incredible OST and sound design, featuring the same composer who created the belle soundtrack, so guaranteed banger.
The ending was somewhat reminiscent of a nujabes and shing02 collab.
A lot of good and brutal fights in here, does not shy away from action. The mix between cgi and 2d can be a little jarring at first but i don't think it was done as bad as some other titles.
Despite the CGI, some of the fight scenes are done wonderfully. It makes me wonder what this team could have done with more resources. Most of the time, characters or scenes involved in fighting have cgi but those that dont are just drawin in 2D fashion? Its very confusing what the intent is here...
However, the exception is episode 5 where the suits are hidden behind regular clothes and the choreography combined with fluid 2D animation is allowed to shine. I guarantee that if the entire series was as good as episode 5 executionally it would bump the scoring singlehandedly to a 9.
Despite the almost episodic nature of the show not lending itself well to developing attachment other than to the main character, I believe character interactions and what limited development secondary characters get is done quite well.
Important to note that the episodic antagonists are not always 1 dimensional. You end up becoming attached to some of them, a mark of good writing.
I personally believe that despite the places it falls short, the series ultimately has solid foundations and provides something that is worth the experience. 8/10.

"Where's the fun in it if everything is going as planned?" - Takeshi Tatsumi
Giant killing follows the story of a professional soccer player turned manager going back to japan to revitalize a team no one thinks anything of. Wouldn't it be interesting if the underdogs won? Although, i must admit, the manga does a better job of sticking up to the name "giant killing", I still think the added atmosphere from the anime provides a unique enough experience that it's worth watching.
Animation is nothing special for it's time, some of the motion scenes are well animated so i assume the budget is being
...
allocated into some sections, but of course you can't ignore The abhorrent cg sometimes on faraway shots.
The sound design is quite good at times, enhancing the experience and building tension or expectation, but occasionally the voices and sound mixing are not up to par.
Some moments have given me chills, made me smile or feel hyped up. At times I feel like the pacing is unecessarily slow, despite the presence of jarring cuts and timeskips. Sometimes i don't feel like i have a full picture of the sequence of events in the games, but that's likely because they never planned to adapt a second season and so the pacing wasn't exactly well thought out.
You get dragged along in the story, hoping for takumi to do great things, yet being dissapointed or impressed just like characters in the story, almost as if you're a spectator through real life events.
Although sometimes the dialogue is stiff, it has its moments. I ocasionally find myself invested in the story or the characters, feeling excited or distraught.
Certain parts of the show have us focus on different characters and their growth, as well as how Takumi becomes a catalyst for great things to come. You tend to wonder, what cool thing will happen next.
Unfortunately, the moment where the story really begins and it starts to get really really good is towards the end. However, for what it's worth I was really satisfied with the ending
I feel like with a lot better pacing, budget and execution this could have been something close to the one outs of soccer, but alas, no dice.
However, I still love the story of giant killing and as a manga reader, the music and the atmosphere makes me more hyped than the manga could.
Needs an execution that brings it justice, 8/10

"I still haven't been able to do anything for you!" -Hana
Wolf children is a powerful and polished story with a lot of themes grounded in reality. Focusing on the relationship and love between parent and child, one's inner self and occasionally, the regret of not making the most of something.
There's almost this formula for tension resolution and breaks, emulating somewhat of Problem solution cycle without it feeling repetitive.
Perfect example of what they mean by show dont tell
Some shots are out of place but most of them are breathtaking
Animation is not the pinnacle but it is breathtaking where it needs to be and is still
...
quite beautiful, with character and environment movements being smooth and fluid.
The sound suits the no dialogue sequences
Weather and atmosphere are used to a clever degree to parallel emotions.
Definitely a lot of thought went into the creation of this piece.
Interestingly, it well demonstrates the difficulties and love of parents in relation to their family.
I especially enjoy the portrayal of a parents love and emotions towards their children.
Despite the fact that it's a movie, the character relationships and development was very fleshed out and it gives you time to settle in and get invested in the characters.
The direction in which the characters develop becomes more interesting when you view them in relation to one another.
It grows on you and slowly you realize how well written it is.
The "wolf" part of the story isn't exactly unecessary either and it serves as a tool which symbolically propells the narrative and tells us a few things about people's paths in life, conflicting desires and identities as well as vulnerability.
Somewhat representing a more feral, genuine or otherwise "ugly" yet simultaneously loved by others, insides of ourselves.
And we choose to do with our "inside selves" varies from person to person
The smiles she puts on her face during hardships might be somewhat forced but eventually the we see a more genuine smile, suggesting some sort of a satisfaction.
Very heartwarming and thought provoking experience, well written emotional journey that exceeded expectations 9/10.

What the hell...
honestly the people don't even feel real. Their motivations are either oversimplified or nonexistent and its difficult to know what's going on.
the landscapes are quite nostalgic of 80s and 90s anime
the characters are drawn ok tbh, pretty bad comparatively nowadays, some of the movement feels pretty robotic and the expressions are quite off putting
I quite enjoyed the osts they played since they also have that old nostalgic nice sounding 80s - 90s osts
The osts of this time have quite interesting instrumentation and melodies/harmonies. I can't quite describe it by word.
Actually after hearing the really horrible janky sounding harpsichord ost they played I take
...
that back.
Most of the OSTs after the halfway point are pretty bad too.
The sound effects are ok, they do their job but to be honest it's not like it means much if almost everything else sucks.
pretty sure most of the time I'm thinking "who the hell is this" or "what's going on"
The pacing is damn abysmal, the cuts in-between are so random, and honestly it's criminal this thing got 48 minutes
Honestly they act as if the main character is some master manipulator who can charm people and use his wits to get money
But the plans are honestly laughably bad and further pulls you out of the experience
Half the time I can't even believe the characters fall for this shit.
The story overall, it's not even worth talking about. Honestly it feels like the plot of a one dimensional children's cartoon (despite having definitely not children safe themes)
I cant even believe i wrote a review for this
What in the world does blue flames even mean? How am I supposed to know. 2/10

"Miracles? Senku has no interest in such a thing" - Kohaku
Science is Might! Science is what brings about miracles!
In between the first and the second season my appreciation for this show was somewhat dulled having not watched it for a while.
But when I watched this second season it reminded me again how much of a masterpiece this show is and how amazing science is.
Character interactions like:
The master apprentice senku chrome relationship
The lifelong friends between senku, taiju and yuzuriha
The brotherhood between senku and tsukasa
Senku's tendency to hide his emotions and how much he cares about others yet shows it so clearly in his actions
It's all... just
...
so heartwarming
10/10 see review for S1, quality did not deteriorate, cried just as much if not more

"This is exhilarating" - Senku
What Senku says is how I feel. Dr. Stone makes me cry about bow beatiful science is.
Even hearing the soundtrack I often just tear up
The sound design is great, it just pushes emotional moments to the peak.
Motifs are present everywhere, you can generally tell if it is a dr stone soundtrack.
Things as beautiful as humanity's progress working together and trust between people.
The writer of the original material had to know about all this science stuff in the first place and create something that is feasible. I think that in itself is also amazing.
Even if it's something seemingly small or insignificant, something
...
we take for granted like a lightbulb.
This anime taught me about how ultimately beautiful and incredible human scientific progress is. That everything else just seems so insignificant.
The visuals and sound just makes this effect much stronger
Cant watch this show without crying
Even if things arent said outright you can feel or tell the emotions of people
Animation is not necessarily the best ever, but it's breathtaking when it needs to be and there is much attention to detail.
With the unique and colorful character designs.
It may be be second to steins gate for science of all time but it sure as hell aint far behind.
In terms of its ability to share the beauty of science, Dr. Stone has no equal.
The universe is amazing and bizzare, science is beautiful, Dr. Stone is just a reminder of that 10/10

"It's not about how long you live, but rather how you live" is one of the eventual lessons I picked up from reading this manga.
This has to be the greatest manga I have read of all time no?
While it doesn't necessarily stand out for incredible art and at the start you have no idea what it's going to turn out to be... Oh man was reading this an experience.
Condensed in this piece of media is a whole host of life lessons and wisdom not often explored. Very thought provoking yet ends with you feeling blissfully calm and satisfied.
The story direction is amazing, not predictable in
...
the least and the characters I quite enjoyed. Character interactions were very wholesome and smile inducing and we get to see the development of our main duo throughout the story. I quite enjoy the misadventures the two go on and how they handle the events that occur around them.
This manga makes me think about the measure of life and how we should value it.
That even though the 30 days is probably valued more externally the 3 days I think he enjoyed the most.
About how it doesn't matter anymore about what happened in the past but life's value is about what you do from now in into the future.
Or that it's better to love on because you have the ability to change your own outcome/the "value" of your life.
Or about those who need the money, down in the gutter, not doing much in life, their life is valued at close to nothing. But if your life is good then you wouldn't want to sell anything.
None of these were force-fed to you either and it feels like a revelation when you learn something on your own.
This manga has taught me a lot about the way we think about life and maybe the ways we should be thinking about life too.
Feeling Primed, Blissful and Hopeful for the future 10/10.

Honestly, Abhorrently disgusting. [Sorry there are spoilers here]
What if we spend 11-12 episodes developing the relationship between 2 characters and then whoa last episode, the main character is in love with someone else.
That's what true tears is.
And don't give me any "the heart works in mysterious ways" bullshit.
It had so much potential. I loved Isurugi Noe as a character and thoroughly enjoyed the symbolism. But the way the story pans out and my overall enjoyment was just so down in the dumps that everything good with this series is just soured. Honestly anyone other than Noe is kind of forgettable which is why i cant
...
give a good character rating sadly.
Would not watch again, wasted 4.3 hours of my life, greatest waste of potential i've watched since Darling in the Franxx and Guilty Crown 4/10
