Ao Haru Ride | A Review
Story:
The anime focuses on many aspects of youth – love, friendship, jealousy, betrayal, but mostly on just how to live it. I like how many of the things that are shown in the anime are realistic and things that you can encounter in your life itself. Though there might be some exaggerated stuff, I still loved it. Of course, it focuses more on the story of Mabuchi Kou and Yoshioka Futaba, from their middle school stories to their current (high school) as they go through their lives and the changes that Mabuchi (formerly Tanaka but would soon change again to
...
Tanaka) undergone after losing someone, and that’s a realistic aspect, it does change a person when you lose someone that is dear to you. Of course, he was still a middle schooler too. Throughout the series, we were shown a lot of problems that were solved fortunately, and, in the end, Mabuchi Kou found the meaning to his life and it was great. Though I’ve seen and read a lot of stories like this, I can’t help but appreciate the hard work done unto this.
Score: 8/10
Art:
The anime came out back in 2014 but the manga was started back in 2011 so I can understand the kind of art that they went for, and seriously I don’t really mind – it looks the same such as Orange and it is a romance/youth/school anime that is also worth watching, also with a main protagonist undergoing a mother’s death but that anime deals with more… sensitive manners. The art was colorful, I loved it, especially the opening’s art – it was perfect. It is just right for the time and for the genre of romance, yes, this kind of art is what fits (for me).
Score: 8/10
Sound:
Gosh I love the opening so much that I haven’t even skipped it, not even once, and that’s thanks to a great performance to Chico from Honeyworks. Although its like the opening might out shadow the other tracks in the soundtrack, but that’s not entirely the case. The music was spot on, it gives you the feels that you need to feel. If it’s sad, they give you the perfect music that fits, if it’s dramatic, they give it to you. The Sound Director really did a good job, so kudos. This is my favorite part of the anime.
Score: 9/10
Character:
Let’s say, yes this is an anime, but the characters are somehow realistic but, in the way, that you can also say that they are not. Although you can feel the vibes of the main characters, there were just some characters that were made for the sake of a laughter or whatnot, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t important. As far as I’ve seen, every character that was presented in this show had impacts to each character’s life, just like how Futaba’s Middle School friend returned to make her realize something, or Kou’s ‘friends’ in name.
Nevertheless, I loved the characters in this show.
Score: 7/10
Enjoyment:
I really loved it! Just from the beginning to the end of each episode, it is just so beautiful and great that you can’t get enough of it. Sadly, it ended only on twelve episodes, but I believe the manga has more chapters in their lives to show to us, but the anime didn’t, but it still gave us a perfect ending. I would like to see more of them if possible, I love it.
Score: 8/10
Overall:
It isn’t perfect but it’s a good anime that I highly recommend it to everyone if you want to make your heart flutter. The Art was fitting, the music was spot on, the characters were enjoyable, and the anime was amazing. I can’t be too critical about it since I’m a romance anime geek myself, I love jumping into a pit of emotions. This was a great Blue Spring Ride.
