Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead is very similar to the first season. What made first season very enjoyable to watch was how ridiculously funny/random the story itself is, and I'm glad that the second season brings more of the same. The major downside is that unlike the first season where characters are somewhat developed and there was at least a plot, there is almost none of those in the second season. The main cause was the pacing. The plot probably could have been finished within the second season, yet they chose to drag it out and leave it unfinished, which made a
...
somewhat poor ending as well. Furthermore, the main characters did not develop at all, and their relationship stayed nearly the same after the end of the first season. It seems like the second season chose fan service over real character development (that was also somewhat the case for the first season), using the kawaii Eucliwood, the well-endowed Seraphim, the insane/immature tsundere Haruna, and several others. It worked to some degree, even though the harem/ecchi cliche has been used by over hundreds of animes. In the end, I do not understand how the average score for the second season is higher than the first season, since there are quite a few flaws and no real qualities with this anime.
With that said, the second season was still very enjoyable to watch. Referring back to the beginning, what made this anime attractive in the first place was how ridiculously funny the story is, even though it was lacking in the second season. It is quite easy to laugh at really silly scenes, and in the end I found entertainment in this anime. It's just good, but it won't be anything more than that.

I started this anime series today and finished it all in one go! I enjoyed it, it was a great emotional roller coaster with both laughter and tears. There are flaws but overall it was a fine show.
Story: While using amnesia as the basis of a story is not new and has potential, the main flaw is the pacing. A lot of things happened way too quickly, and the show as a whole would benefit with more episodes. Due to the pacing, some parts of the story did not make too much sense. Other than that, the story is fantastic. It is certainly cliched, but
...
I did enjoy watching the drama and the interactions between the characters. Like I said in the introduction, it was a great emotional roller coaster. The story drags you in and makes you anticipate for the results. However, the characters are a big part of why the story was really interesting.
Characters: We are presented the great struggle between Tada Banri and his past. Everything started at that point, which resulted in him meeting new friends, Koko, Mitsuo, 2D-kun, Oka, and an important old friend, Linda. Banri struggled against his past, Koko struggled to mature, Linda struggled against guilt, all the problems the characters faced strongly show their development. The characters are easily one of the strongest point of this anime. It is really obvious to see they have major flaws within their characters, but none of the humans are perfect. We strive to improve ourselves, and that is what exactly the characters have tried to do, which is also what makes the story really interesting to watch.
Art/Sound: They were both good enough to compliment the anime. Nothing memorable, but they do not affect anything negatively, which is good enough for me.
Overall: I am glad that I finished the anime. I watched the first episode at my friend's place a few weeks ago, and was somewhat intrigued. While there are definitely flaws with this anime, it was good enough for me to waste an entire evening to finish the anime. There are also morals you can take away from it as well. 8/10

I have conflicted feelings about this anime series. Overall, I enjoyed it, but there are issues I have with this anime that ultimately leave me unsatisfied.
The story of Innocent Venus is somewhat dark, with a major plot twist happening in the middle of the anime. Plot twists happen all the time, but this one feels slightly forced, since one of the main characters change significantly, and this was the biggest issue I had with this anime. This also relates to the issue with characters. Because of the fact that the characters are mainly flat, with the exception of the three protagonist, I felt attached to
...
the three main characters. Such significant change to one of the protagonist, even though it is foreshadowed a few times, felt somewhat ridiculous to me. Furthermore, the story of these three protagonists is embedded in a grand, intricate plot that was rushed through 12 episodes. Basically, the pacing was poor. At the beginning, it was basically all Jin, Jo and Sana running away from the military. All of a sudden, after the major plot twist, many different plot points are thrust into my brain. War between the rich and the poor, the Phantom's secret intention, Shiba's role in this war, too much information was cramped in the second half of the anime, while the first half was slow, slightly boring. I would even think about adding a few more episodes to slow the second part of the anime down. Other than these two major issues, the story is interesting enough for me to give it a 7/10.
Like I have stated in the paragraph above, the characters of Innocent Venus, with the exception of Jin, Jo and Sana, are flat. The main problem is that they are one-dimensional, that they are flat characters. We have the obnoxious brat, the pirate leader who is secretly strong and influential, the secretary of the enemy whose heart still yearns for the pirate leader, the evil mastermind that has secret intentions to gain more power. Everyone felt the same throughout the anime, barely any characteristics are changed. It does not help that the anime show us very few of their lines of thought, their motivations for change. The characters are definitely not a strong point for this anime, and the three protagonists mask the issues. Jin, Jo and Sana felt real. I fully understand their motivations, their desires. Even Jo, the one who is aloof in the first part of the anime, showed me that he truly cares about Jin and Sana. The protagonists are the shining star among the characters.
I have no clue how the animation would stack up against other mecha animes in 2006, but the movements of the Gladiators and the way they fight are acceptable in 2014 standards. The design of the Gladiators, however, were not anything memorable like Gundams. Characters are fairly generic. The music complements the anime good enough, but it is nothing special. These are also weak points of the anime that I did not like.
Innocent Venus, in the end, has some entertainment value. Even if there are problems that leaves me unsatisfied, I still enjoyed it nonetheless. The story will eventually drag you in if you can endure the slow start and the rushed ending, and you will grow to like Jin, Jo and Sana, even with the major plot twist.

Compared to the first season of IS: Infinite Stratos, the second season feels very similar. Just like the first season, the mecha theme is brought back, along with the harem, the ecchiness, the gag. In simpler words, it doesn't feel like anything has changed.
Like other harem animes, IS: Infinite Stratos 2 brings a cast of girls chasing one guy, but the difference is that the setting is in a girls-only school with the protagonist, Ichika, the sole male in the school. Judging it as a harem anime, sure, this is a pretty smart idea. However, since both the characters and the story are ridiculously
...
weak, the anime as a whole simply cannot be taken seriously, similar to many other harem animes. We have the prototypical protagonist boy whose strong male presence (considering he is the only male in the school) attracts a whole lot of girls, but he is oblivious towards their feelings. We have two types of girls in the school: the first type is the type that falls in love with him for no reason at all, and the second type is the type that falls in love with him because he promised to protect them. Basically, the characters are very one-dimensional, sounds very similar to the first season, right? Charlotte is the only girl who has an enjoyable and understandable character, which is why she is also the best character across both seasons. The story is a minor improvement from the first season, since at least a few episodes have antagonists in them (the Phantom Task), but it is still very poor, as the story is full of holes and a very important antagonist gets introduced out of nowhere, which leaves me wondering many many times, "Who the **** is that? Why the **** is she not introduced in the first season? What the **** is wrong with this storyline???"
Other minor aspects are just OK. Art is what you would typically expect in a mecha anime. The ISs look pretty good, characters are like any other anime characters, animations are average, nothing to "Wow" about. Sound is also average, but it does its job to fit in with the anime. You're not going to hear any sound that's going to make you cry or fire you up.
Among all these negative aspects of this anime, the one shining star is: it draws cheap laughs out of you. This anime isn't going to leave a lasting impression like Steins;Gate does or Gintama does, this anime isn't going to give you an anime hero that you will think about for the next week like Death Note does or One Piece does. The most you should expect is laughing at silly, ecchi scenes with tsundere girls. Bored? Want a break from your routine? Want to laugh at stupid things and drool over breasts? This is it, this anime is for you.

When I started watching this anime, I was expecting one of those typical romance/comedy animes. A general warning to everyone about to watch this: this could very well be a great watch for you or a waste of time. For me, I found it enjoyable.
Let's begin with the story. The story is about a former vampire boy who tries to help other people (well, really, girls) with their supernatural powers by leading them to a man who is an expert in dealing with supernatural beings. You can call it a harem, but the main character stays loyal to the first girl he helped. It has
...
a sense of humor, but what's different between this anime and the other romance/comedy animes is that this anime is also dark. All the girls get their supernatural powers through a variety of different negative emotions, ex. despair and jealously. And in the solution of each of these problems, we can clearly see what the poor girls went through to get their supernatural powers. It makes us sympathize. It makes us think, which is why this anime is special among other similar animes.
Because of the fact that those negative emotions are strongly presented, the characters are basically one of the strongest aspects of this anime. The main character, Araragi, went through many different trials to help these girls (including getting his intestines torn out), yet we see that he is truly a benevolent, responsible person. However, he's not static. He undergoes changes that show that because he is loyal to Senjougahara, he no longer throws his life on the line to save others. Similarly to Senjougahara, she undergoes a change that shows us that she is a caring, likable character that is also loyal to Araragi, though she maintains her tsundere side. Lastly, the fact that all the girls went through a trial to lose their supernatural powers, we can easily sympathize their problems and emotions, making each individual girls strong characters.
The art is very different from other anime. In a nutshell, it is 3-D characters thrown into an abstract, 2-D world. I admit that I don't really understand the purpose behind this, but the art manages to support the anime well enough. The sound does fit with the anime, though. Most of the music is somewhat melancholy, which supports this somewhat emotional anime. Voice characters did their job well, I have to say.
Like I said: this anime could be one of the better ones you've watched or it could be a bust. I personally enjoyed this anime, but someone else could absolutely hate it. If you would like to try something new, I suggest trying this. Watch the first one or two episodes and see if you want to continue it, drop it if you don't.

From a simple perspective, the perspective of one who is simply watching for enjoyment, this anime isn't bad. There were moments that made me giggle, that made me think and analyze the ideas. However, looking deeper, this anime really isn't anything special. Like many others, it has potential, but ultimately failed to develop that.
The main idea of the story is interesting. The Demon King, the Hero, along with other companions such as the Head Maid and the Female Knight, try to change the world, a world currently plagued with poverty, corruption, war, through education, inventions and schemes. However, much of it is rushed through
...
the anime, even the subplots as well. If the anime had been longer, for example 20 episodes, the story would have been properly developed. Not to mention that much of the story contains too many subplots, this whole story doesn't leave a lasting impression.
Equally undeveloped as the story, the characters fail to show change. From the protagonists to the minor characters, they show us their personalities, but most of them are static characters. The Demon King is an intelligent woman who shows kindness to everyone. The Hero is an ultra powerful fighter who shows care towards his companions. For an unknown reason, they fall in love and have mini-love quarrels and small romantic moments. It is finished. Their characters don't change anymore. You would expect that the protagonists are the round characters, but instead the Elder Sister Maid, a supporting character, shows the most change throughout the series. Basically, the characters are by far the weakest point of this anime. That being said, similar to the story, the characters are affected by the fact that the anime itself was rushed through 12 episodes, and again, if the episodes were longer, many things would change for the better.
Thinking about other factors, they weren't impressive, either. The art of the characters are acceptable, but the background occasionally feel like I'm watching a poorly done oil painting. The sound weren't good. I don't remember any music that I enjoyed or noticed, but the voice actors were pretty good. They did a good job for the Demon King, the Hero and many other characters.
Overall, again, if the anime were made longer, instead of rushed through 12 episodes, I feel that it would be much better. There are a lot of weak points in this anime, but nonetheless I somewhat enjoyed it. Hardcore anime viewers, lower your expectation and watch it purely for enjoyment. Otherwise you won't like this anime too much.
