Gosick, probably the best mystery anime out there until now, let me explain why. (Minor spoilers ahead)
Story 10/10
Mystery anime are realy hard to pull off, why? Because Mystery only works on paper, thus Novels is the best way for Mystery, that's a fact and that's the reason Gosick was successful as a novel to the point Bones decided to adapt it. Now the reason story gets a perfect 10 is because, as the story goes on the cases our protagonists get into get harder, longer and towards the end some cases just leave you speechless. Another reason is that during the cases it portrays the early 20th
...
century perfectly, all the prejuditions are displayed perfectly.
Now for a short summary, protagonist Kujo Kazuya has moved to Sauvile from Japan to study abroad. Naturally his whole appearance seems weird to all the students there and because of his bad luck and his dark hair and eyes he is being called The Black Reaper that Comes on Spring and everyone avoids him.Having noone to talk to he heads to the library where he meets the female lead, Voctorique. After meeting her he is thrown in a series of cases making his reputation in school even worse so his only friend is Voctorique.Together they solve many cases while the story progresses.
Art 10/10
For 2011 the art is Great. Nothing to complain, Bones did a great job as always.
Sound 10/10
Soundtracks being from the same person who did Code geass soundtracks was enough to let me know it was gonna be great, but this was exceptional. Both the openings/endings and the OSTs and inserted songs flow perfectly with the air of the anime and keep the gothic theme going, simply perfect.
Character 10/10
Now comes the real reason the anime gets a perfect 10 from me. Gosick starts off as a typical Mr. Average meets Genius Loli who happens to be another tsundere. Let me tell you now, this is NOT the case for Gosick. As they solve more cases together they develop strong feelings of trust for each other and as the protagonist, Kujo, learns more about Voctorique's dark past he makes up his resolve to protect her to the end.
The protagonist Kujo, might look like Mr. Average but he is not, he will surprise you every time, he is just a 16 year old boy and yet even from the early episodes he is fearless when it is to protect Voctorique, example: fighting a murderer holding a huge ass axe with his bare hands.
Now for Voctorique, she starts off as a tsundere genius who sees Kujo as a servant and nothing more, as the story progresses and Kujo protects her with his life countless times even if she herself says that someone like her doesn't deserve it she warms up to him and cannot live without him
Generally, character developement is the most striking point of Gosick. The relationship between the protagonists starts from Master-Servant then becomes Pure Friendship and Partners and finally...Romance.
Enjoyment 10/10
To watch and enjoy Gosick to its fullest you must go in with the right mindset and expectations. If you expect something light and enjoyable then no, you will not enjoy this. Comedy is there and it's pretty good but Dark is the theme of this. There are a lot of deaths, hardships, dark pasts revealed and even gore, nothing much but it's still there. To people that are really into Mystery anime I promise you this is your cup of tea.
Overall 10/10
It's a masterpiece in my opinion, anyone can enjoy it as long as they dont have the wrong expectations, the best thing about it is that most of the time even if you guess who the Culprit of a case is, the actual ENDING of a case will always surprise you to no end, especially episodes 10-20, expect a lot of mystery there, I was completely taken back on one of the cases when i was sure who the culprit was and I was right, but when they showed exactly WHAT happened I was just speechless, you cannot guess some of the cases no matter how much you think about it
Recommending it to everyone, this is too good to not be watched from many people. Thanks for Reading
