A Sign of Affection is definitely slightly over-hyped. But it’s still a lovely anime, and I’d recommend it.
As long as you aren’t expecting too much depth, it’s a great watch.
Specifically, the character development was only adequate.
There wasn’t a lot of emotionally evocative character building. The anime’s strength isn’t that it’ll have you sympathizing deeply with it’s characters and stuff. It more so just maintains a strong consistent warm/fuzzy/cute vibe and is beautifully animated.
