This is actually one of the first anime I ever watched and was the anime that got me started watching anime, so I may be a bit biased here, I apologize. I've seen this anime a grand total of five times pretty much all the way through. I skipped a few filler episodes, though. So I guess you could say this is my favorite animes of all time, I used to know the opening by heart because I thought I wasn't aloud to skip it. I was a weird kid. I should also say that I've read the manga several times as well and this
...
anime is very accurate, some of the names were changed a bit, and there was a lot of filler.
Anyway, the story is rather simple, but can get a bit complicated depending on what your definition of complicated is. It's basically a middle school love story, but gets ran over by a huge truck full of magical girl magic and sexually harassing aliens. So, yeah, it's a bit weird, but not unusual for a magical girl anime. I love the story, obviously, and I actually like most of the filler episodes because I think it gave the characters more depth. There were a few occasions the anime got a bit too cliche and I felt the battle scenes were sometimes pointless or lackluster, but other than that, no problems at all.
The art is the typical old-ish anime look, since it was produced in 2002. The one thing I didn't much care for was the repetive attack scenes. The fact I still have all of them ingrained in my memory forever, kinda proves that point. Honestly, I could do every single transformation and attack perfectly, well as perfectly as my unfit self can do. I used to do them when I was in my room when I was younger when I was really bored. Ah, memories. Also, I've always loved the openings and ending, even if they were a bit cliche with the silly glamour shots, it honestly makes the anime more charming in my opinion.
Anyway, sound was awesome. Voice acting is great, so is the opening and ending theme, again, I used to have the opening memorized start to finish.
The characters, oh my the characters. I LOVE the characters, I could honestly say that the characters are the best part of the show. They're all dynamic and have such wonderful personalities and they can all be relatable to anyone. From the quiet, reserved character or the rich, misunderstood character. This anime pretty much has any character trope, that's excuted so nicely.
If it isn't obvious enough how much I've enjoyed this anime, I don't know how else to express it. This anime is so awesome and this is coming from a person who doesn't typically like the cutesy love story. I highly recommend this to young people or maybe anyone who just want a fun anime, full of laughs, tears, and cheesy moments.

I enjoyed the anime and somewhat enjoyed the game, if you are, for lack of a better word, triggered by that statement, please stop reading this.
Now that's out of the way, let's continue.
Let's talk about how I got to the anime anyway. I heard about the game and actually began to watch a playthrough of the game, however I just grew bored because of how much pretty much every single thing was dragged out. Because of this, I took the easy way out and watch the anime instead. However I'm sure the game was great, it's just a bit too wordy and slow-paced than I
...
prefer.
I think one of the reasons this anime gets so much criticism is just because it's an adaptation of the game. It's not 100% accurate, go figure, but think of it this way, if the anime kept every single little thing it had in the game, then the anime would be 50+ episodes long. That's probably an exaggeration, but please bear with me. This is a turn-off for a lot of people, including myself. Remember how I said this was the easy way out? Some people prefer their anime around ten or twenty episodes, mainly because they either have busy lives, short attention spans, or just prefer things go straight to the point. Because of this, the creators would loose a good bit of potential customers just because of that. So I'm glad they shortened it.
However, there's also a few cons to shortening it. There isn't as much character development or any time to get to know the characters. This I don't really like, I feel like they could've extended the episodes to maybe 24 episodes if they showed more interactions with the characters from the game, so I agree with most criticism there.
The art was gorgeous, however I HATED that they simply reused the execution scenes from the game. It was such a cheap copout. I thought they were going to do their own adaptation of the infamous scenes, but they decided not to. I'd rather not think it was laziness because if the creators were truly lazy, they wouldn't have made the anime anyway. Maybe it was for budget problems or they just didn't think it was necessary? I don't know. Other than that, the art was great.
The characters were either intriguing, annoying, or uninteresting altogether. I didn't really find an in between. Because of this, I found it a bit difficult to care for characters that either got executed or murdered. In fact, I only truly liked about four characters. Again, I think if the anime extended a bit, I think I would've gotten a better understanding of the characters and liked them a bit more.
The voice acting was actually quite nice, I don't think there was much room, if any, for improvement there.
In conclusion, I enjoyed this anime very much. It may not be in my top five of all time, but I would definitely recommend it if you want a dark story full of action, betrayal, and, most of all, bloody demises. However, if you're a huge fan of the game, I'd definitely either keep an open mind or skip this anime altogether.

I actually enjoyed this anime. Though I would not call it the best anime ever, it was nice just for a quick little binge of 70's horror. So if you're looking for a good scare, this is not necessarily for you. However if you're looking for something creepypasta-ish, then you're in the right place.
There is no real connecting force with these stories, they are just kinda random, which I think is what puts a lot of people off this anime. So that's just a small warning I guess. The stories themselves are pretty predictable, but that's oldie horror for ya. Some are a bit too
...
quick with their pacing in my opinion, but, then again, the episodes are very short.
There's nothing really to say about the characters, the episodes are too short to get attached to them, but I guess if you're a really sympathetic person or something, maybe you will? I just didn't until the last episode kinda.
The only episode I found "scary" was episode seven. However, the only reason why I thought it was terrifying is because the story was about a clown, needless to say, I'm terrified of clowns.
My least favorite story had to be episode twelve, which was about a mad scientist who turned people into "human fish". I just found it extremely rushed and terribly put together, the voice acting was a joke, and the artwork did not go well with a few scenes.
I loved how there was different art styles because some went better with that certain story. For example there was an episode, I cannot recall which one it was exactly, where it was in a world where humans turned into robots, (you know how I said it was 70's style horror, case and point) the art style was more geometric than the semi-realistic, cartoonish, and realistic art styles used in other episodes. I understand how changing art styles can be a turnoff to some people, but I think it was kinda cool in this case.
In conclusion, I think if you like old, classic, short, horror stories, then I think you should give this a shot. The episodes are only 3-5 minutes long, so you could easily watch every episode in a day.
