Basically Rail Romanesque for non-autists

I mean it's a bit more complicated than that, but it's about a bunch of cute girls, acting in homoerotic/homoromantic ways attempting to produce a marketing campaign, only this time instead of being divvied up into 12 smaller segments it takes a single larger look at the production process, of course being an anime about media production I found it quite lacking in that department, as I also found with the Ecchi aspects of it, just a rather disappointingly average production all around, Rail Romanesque is much better if you're looking for something of this concept, though I'm sure for fans ... of Kandagawa Jet Girls, this does more than necessary to keep your attention.

This anime scares me, Shinjuku shin chan is through visual communications framed as a hero yet I believe him to be the truest villain, He was sent to protect us from the pedophiles of Shinjuku yet he himself functions in a predatory fashion.

I believe this is trying to communicate some degree of depth beyond the idea that authority is innately right yet in the action of the script it presents this innate black and white morality upon the situation.

Therefore I find the nature of the series antithetical to the points that are trying to be made.

Also the fact that shinjuku shin chan just kinda flies ... around places is weird, just saying, he has legs and can walk the guy doesn't need to fly through my house, but perhaps that is how he gets away with all the rapes.

Gold pencil and Alien Boy is a very dichotomous film to discuss, especially within a more common review format, it is simultaneously utterly incomprehensible and filled with artistic choices I would call bad at best yet at the same time the film has provided me an abundance of Joy, therefor as a work of art does it fulfill its goal?


it had succeeded to entertain me and allow me to achieve enjoyment, yet it seems to not do this through the intent of the work, If if were to see it as a touching story of childhood perhaps I would fail to enjoy it, for in ... that regards it fails to be anything more than a mediocre film that could easily be surpassed by bonobono or even an episode of sesame street, no what truthfully makes this film so fascinating is similar to what makes the 1976 fensheng bang.

Aspects like off kilter frame timings and absurd animation techniques, horrible sound mixing and literally ripping off pop music for the score (when there is one) it truly stands on its own in this place of a mixture between the naivety of youth and the sentimentality of a genius artist.

Now here is where I must confess something, I do not speak Korean to the extent it would require to fully understand this film, only having done 2 years of high-school level education in it, but I can also say that this film is bootleg to the core and is more about the experience of viewing than it is about being able to understand the narrative, Similar to the music of Aesop rock.

and so in this I will give the film two simultaneous scores, 1/10 and 10/10, it is deeply special in one context and utterly garbage in another, choose what you will.

Do you like girls? if so this is one of the best anime you could watch

With some of the best post Gunbuster/Evangelion/Princess maker designs I've ever seen and a tone that feels straight out of a Mitsuru Adachi manga this is what is up, I genuinely feel that this is one of the peaks of 90's moe and anyone who likes seeing cute girls will enjoy it.

While it does lean upon some more conventional elements of anime it utilizes the kinds of inventive characterization that appeared in KareKano,

If you're looking for something to come off you Gainax binge and to adjust yourself better to the ... typical climate of anime this will be the perfect trantition, no episode feels too long or too short, they manage to pack in just enough charm to keep it feeling good through the course of its run.

This show was an interesting experince, in many ways upon the surface it would appear similar to a great cooking manga/anime like Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou, Shinya Shokudo or Shokugeki no souma, and in terms of actual product it was similar to all three but in the worst way, the linking of the shorter charachter studies in this show were enough to retain one's attention but not enough to be engaging so it is almost an inverse of Shinya Shokudou, it lacks the requisite goofiness and identity through visual presentation to be as funny as Tonkatsu Dj Agetarou and it lacks the amazing presentation ... of cooking that is present in Shokugeki no souma.

BUT

The series as a whole had one other thing in common with these other series, Passion, there was a clear effort put into making this show charming above all else, it has real heart and I think that is worth as much as I have given the show
