...then you might like Aria the Animation add

Both of these series are gentle, slow-paced, character-driven shows. Over the course of both series, you really get to know and understand every character, their motivations and their relationships with one another. Maria-sama ga Miteru is a little bit heavier on the drama and the Romantic Two-Girl Friendship than Aria, but they have a similar focus on passing the torch to the next generation, whether it's becoming Prima Undines, or Roses of the Yamayurikai council.

If you liked Mawaru Penguindrum add

...then you might like Yuri Kuma Arashi add

Mawaru Penguindrum and Yuri Kuma Arashi are both surreal, sometimes dark (despite the adorable penguins/bears), and absolutely bursting with symbolism. Kunihiko Ikuhara directed both, and he certainly has a unique, defined style. Both works present themes and ideas that ask the viewer to think and analyze, and not just take what's being presented at face value. It's not for everyone, but if you like one, there's a very high chance you'll like the other.

If you liked Haibane Renmei add

...then you might like Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World add

Kino's Journey feels very similar in tone to Haibane Renmei. They both share a sort of thoughtful, dreamlike melancholy, though Kino's Journey has a little bit more action. They're both slow-paced, mature shows that pose philosophical questions and make you want to think. Kino's Journey is one of the few shows that really captures the same sort of feeling as Haibane Renmei.
