Two collections of episodic horror series with their roots heavily founded in Japanese folk-lore, traditions and mythology. Whilst Gunslinger Girl is far more grounded in actual concept of human conditioning with a science fiction twist added in for good measure. They are both very mature series both in their approach to the subject matter and the seriousness in which they handle the situation.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Holy Shit! Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt & Dead Leaves seem to embody this term with all their might. Both are simply crass entertainment that try to be as vulgar and explicit as possible chock-a-block with blunt sex jokes and trash entertainment, whilst rattling the senses with their sharp comic strip style animation and are both fast paced experimental animations by Production I.G. and Gainax. Panty and Stocking can be considered far more witty and more of a social commentary, while Dead Leaves is the embodiment of pulp fiction entertainment where its plain offensiveness and stupidity is its best point.

To call something such as Ikki Tousen & Freezing classics would to many film critics be pretty similar to getting emotionally bludgeoned to death with a lead pipe! But there is always room for quality teenage hormone pandering in the hall of fame. With that said Ikki Tousen and Freezing are similar as they are amongst the best of its genre, forget about character driven story-lines lets utilize panty shots and boob slips as plot development!! That goes without saying, Freezing and Ikki Tousen are examples of the fap worthy editions to the harem-ecchi-action-school life anime that are never afraid to dwindle with what they want to be, forget censored crap this is the way to go to appeal to the 13 year old immature male within us all.

Conveying words through art is a skill that is exceptionally fundamental and important to a films subtle qualities and is thus a very hard aspect of story-telling to fully grasp. Mononoke and Midori: Shoujo Tsubaki are two such shows that use art to its utmost potential, both films tell horrifying stories made all the more potent through the visual phantasmagoria that is Mononoke's hybrid of Japanese traditional paintings and watercolor pallettes, and Midori's relentlessly surreal and grotesquely callous environments. Both shows are must watches for anyone looking for something bursting at the brims with experimental, artistic flare.

Both series build a haven of warmth that is comforting and beautiful to experience.

Though they have their noticeable and sometimes profound differences, where Mushi-shi has a far more supernatural sentiment that is a reflection of a cultural spiritual identity, and Kino's Journey has a far more down-to-earth approach enlightening an observation of humanities faults and attributing a very real embodiment of human nature.

Both series adopt a very mature mentality when dealing with socially taboo topics and situations, remarkably conveying the hardships and challenges that the characters in each face as expectations and social norms step in to confront the concepts in a vivid and disturbingly real manner. They are both very character driven stories and carry a degree of emotional impact that is not forced but softly portrayed and carefully presented.
