This OVA should not exist. Given the excellent and emotional ending of the parent series this is just out of place and makes no sense as "episodes 25/26". I personally hate when anime do this; just leave well enough alone and leave the ending of the story where it is. I guess if you are looking for more story it is not the worst but it just really messed with me after coming off the very strong ending to go WAAAY back in the story to when everything was still normal. It would have been far better to add this as part of the series
...
proper instead of ramming it in at the end.

Eh... it was just OK. The development of the story was good and it was a lot more fun when it was the crew running away from the authorities and getting out of troublesome situation. IMO it jumped the shark in the last half of season 2 and had all sorts of complicated things, unnecessary mechs, a huge fighting scene that was built up for 6 episodes and lasted 2 minutes. Honestly it was all sizzle and no flavor. By around episode 18 I was begging for it to end. I would rate the seasons: 1 as a 7.5 and 2 as a 5.

Ok... so I will be straight up. This might be an anime that is too smart for me. Here is the problem... I think I am fairly smart and really tried to pay attention. Said a different way... this comes across a bit pretentious in that it doesn't hold the viewers hand AT ALL. Like... there is subtle, hidden, and then this which is something FAR more difficult to understand. By the halfway point I really didn't understand this anime much at all. It goes out of it's way to not explain things, relationships, or really much of anything. In an attempt to be subtle
...
and edgy it just becomes confusing and a hot mess. I can see that it did a LOT of things right and it's world and tone are very interesting... if only it would explain a lot more, not try to shroud most things for a "big reveal" at the end and it might be pretty good.
Also... I think my main issue was at the end nothing was really solved, I was still left not really understanding the relationship between most people and major and I mean MAJOR plot points went so far over my head I was just left confused and frustrated. You can't get emotionally connected if you're just confused the whole time. This is a miss for me though some people may really like it if they are able to get it.

You know what... this series gets a pretty bad wrap for what I consider nonsense reasons. I am REALLY glad the trailer had a badass metal thing going on so I gave it a chance because it was actually pretty refreshing. Don't let the haters dissuade you, this is definitely worth a watch.
Story: 8/10
The story is actually quite interesting. You have Ibuki who is given the power of the Red Dragon (to kill someone precious to him in order to kill someone else). You would think this would be fairly common in anime but this is the first and only time I've ever seen this
...
concept explored. I know metaphorically it is explored through hard choices that get you to the same place but never has it literally been a life for a life. I think this is pretty cool. Also, the story may have a few issues (killing Red dragon gets completely sidetracked in the middle) but it all flows logically. The characters follow a logical path, the 3 sides are all represented clearly and their goals make sense and on top of that the story builds to a final battle and there is a concrete conclusion (if not a lil sappy and a bit open ended). I don't want to spoil it so I can't go into much more but trust me there are lots of twists and turns and the story develops well.
Art: 8/10
It looks pretty good. Unique character models, the SG isn't done excessively and isn't too jarring and the art does a good job of setting the mood.
Sound: 8/10
In episode 1 when the intro theme kicks in (during a badass scene near the end) I knew this anime was going to be awesome. The fighting sounds are fine, the music is solid and the voice acting is done well.
Character: 6/10
This is the weakness of this show. There isn't enough character development (this is one where there is a lot of false character development in the form of tragedy instead of true evolution). Another thing that bugs me is that characters seem to gain powers over time in convenient ways (this is hardly something unique to this series). I will admit there are a lot of tropes going on with the characters but the angles they take are unique (a character that breaks anything he touches is pretty interesting) and most of the characters are done in such a way that you will like or hate them. Also. people will die and I appreciate that.
Enjoyment: 7/10
I liked it. It felt a bit short (is that a good thing?) but before I knew it there were only a few episodes left. I liked the unique angles and the direction they took the show. The characters were appealing and it wasn't afraid to confront death (I mean hell the outro of the show basically had a "kill counter" that crossed out in red an of Ibuki's comrades that died with a special X for those dying that episode). Little things like that really enhanced the enjoyment.
Overall: 7/10
It was good. I have no idea why people disliked it so much (and I'm not going to waste my time finding out). This one is good. You will like it if you don't think too deeply and just accept that it is fairly unique and tells a complete (if not a bit short) story. Enjoy!

In this review I will touch on the difference between this season and season 1 of the show.
Basically... this season is a lot better for a few reasons:
MC is barely in it and boy does he suck.
The characters featured are far more sympathetic and relatable and make the story far better (they are lots of characters whose names I know from history so I can relate on several levels).
You can see the story is building up to something and it all makes a LOT more sense.
More cool fighting scenes and several romance plots that were done well/
The things that are still lacking to keep this
...
from being more than just good:
MC still sucks.
The more I find out about Horizon the less I like her. Could she show a little emotion?
There are less logical debates which I really enjoyed.
The story stops after introducing a lot of new potential characters; they didn't want to end it they clearly got canceled.
Even more characters gain special powers because they need them to win battles.
Overall: better than season 1 and I suggest definitely watching it if you've seen season 2. Not sure it is worth going to the source material for the whole story though I can see the beginnings of an epic story unfolding that some may want to explore.

This one is tough to grade because there are lots of strong and lots of very weak pieces. It nets out to an overall fair experience and I think depending on the type of things you look for in anime you could have a very different opinion.
Let's start with the good:
The art is nice and is done well. The sound is also good and the music enhances the mood for the most part.
None of that is terribly unique in this day and age. The main good thing about this show is the diverse cast of characters. There are a TON of them; most of which
...
are inconsequential and have extremely minor roles but several are quite unique. MCs sister and several others are a riot and the fact that they are so diverse in their personalities and character models makes for an interesting experience.
My favorite part of the series is the debate pieces (how weird right?). When the main character and horizon discuss if he should rescue her they have an interesting debate about if they are "parallel" and they use lots of interesting logical games to get there.
Also, the fighting scenes are done well and the story is certainly unique.
This brings me to the bad..
WTF is going on with the story? It is extremely confusing and I don't really understand much of anything. I guess I understand that when people die they can have their souls transferred into automated dolls but other than that I was lost. Lots of things didn't make sense. There were those annoying things where people gain powers from nowhere when they need them. Did I mention the story cause it is really REALLY bad and confusing.
That isn't the worst part... the MC... oh boy is he a tool. He is supposed to be comic relief and he has a few nice moments with horizon but he is just SO annoying. I don't know why anyone (all the other characters included) would like him. He really sucks.
If you want a nice anime with a unique and interesting story (and you're way more detail oriented than me and can understand everything going on) then you might like this. If not, pass it right on by...

Before I start don't get me wrong, this was a good anime. Unfortunately, I think most people think it is a great anime and I want to point out the reasons why it isn't.
Quick background, Tetsunosuke joines the Shinsengumi to avenge his dead parents. This starts as your typical serious revenge story. So far so good, he is eventually let in after an emotional scene. Then there is a mix between extremely lighthearted moments and absurdly dark moments.
This is my first complaint. It does have some excellent moments (the scene with Susumu and Tetsunosuke on the roof is one of the better
...
tragic anime scenes I've seen) but the blend between silly and insanely dark is just distracting. I feel like the anime lacks direction.
This leads to my second complaint: a ton of things happen that I don't understand. There is black magic type stuff, there are scenes where I can't tell if they are imagination or they actually happen, there are things that happen which don't seem to flow logically to the next scene. All of these serve to confuse me about what is real and what is a metaphor or something.
This of course leads to my next complaint: why were there so many dropped plot points. I think the anime had lots fo awesome moments but there were a lot of things brought up that weren't completed. I'll give it slack because there was definitely a play for a second season that never happened but I still thought tons of things that came up weren't explained and I was left wondering what they were all about (some were major and truly left me frustrated).
My final gripe is that I don't know where thr story goes next. Most anime that have a "proper" ending at least give you the impression of the next steps. I guess this one just didn't really feel the need because I had no idea what would be next in store.
All of this aside, if you can forgive these story points the anime is good. The characters are all done well, there is a TON of emotional moments and enough silly moments to break up the tension. For those of you who don't mind an anime lacking a clear direction you may greatly enjoy this!

This one gets a quick review because there isn't a ton to say. Not a whole lot happens, characters do not develop much at all and the story ends without accomplishing anything.
One thing I will say that made this above an average anime was that it was funny. If you ever wanted to hear a TON of sexual jokes centered around farming and see a kawaii teacher who can't find a man hit on her students and ooze desperation and negative energy you will enjoy it. The best episode is the one where he talks about it being just another average day and it
...
is all sorts of crazy stuff that happens that makes me die laughing. It isn't bad for a comedy but the other elements are sorely lacking and the tropes are too strong.

I think it's a sign of a masterpiece anime when there is literally nothing you would change. Unfortunately, there were a few things I would change though I still think this was great. If you want a fresh and original take on the shoujo genre this is definitely a must see. You will laugh hysterically, you would cry passionately and you will leave the series with a warm feeling that everything wrapped up nicely.
Story: 9/10
This is a slice of life so not a lot happens. There are some major plot points that happen as substantial events in Takeo's life but most of them are not
...
terribly important. That being said, there are tons of interesting things that happen that make the story progress and the characters develop. The story has a healthy mix of fluff, heartfelt moments, hilarious moments and downright tear jerkers. It managed to cover a broad array of emotions quite well and even though there are a few plot points that droped I highly doubt you'll notice them. The story ends on a high note that wraps everything up cleanly and leaves you feeling satisfied.
Art: 8/10
This one looks very good. The character designs are unique and the art style is done quite well. There are tons of hilarious still frames of Takeo that will keep me amused for months to come.
Sound: 9/10
Thinking about "Fond memories" is making me want to cry a little right now. That song always comes in before a strong emotional moment and it never fails to disappoint. Aside from that track the OST was strong and the sound and voice acting was excellent.
Character: 9/10
The characters truly shine... every single one of them is excellent in their own way. Each of them is given a proper introduction, a fair amount of development and you can relate to all of them. Each of them was likable and there weren't any I really disliked. Granted there were some characters that were not the main focus but they did get enough attention to where you didn't forget about them. Really at the end of the day this is a love story for Yamato and Takeo and the other characters are just there to enhance the story.
Enjoyment: 9/10
I am truly sad it is over. I wish I hadn't rushed it so much, which is the strongest compliment you can give an anime.
Overall: 9/10
This is strong. If you like slice of life and unconventional romance done VERY well you will love this. I have a hard time thinking anyone would dislike this anime given how funny and interesting it is. If you haven't seen it, see it ASAP. Enjoy!

Going to give a quick review because this one isn't worth much time. Honestly, not much happened considering how many events transpired. What I find astonishing is that they setup tons of plot points that they let drop throughout the series and then chose to make the last episode a trashy "bathhouse" episode that literally did nothing to wrap up the plot whatsoever. Please enjoy this fan-service so we get renewed because our terrible plot certainly isn't going to do it.
The characters range from likable and determined to annoying and frustrating. One thing I really liked is MC is basically a weakling with a
...
huge heart. He keeps trying to fight enemies and get stuff done but then gets wrecked and barely survives. One thing I really HATED was that they took what was a bit of a tragic love story and then turned it into a trashy harem thing in the last episode. This approach was done 100x better in Shakugan no Shana. EVERYTHING was done 100x better in that anime. In fact, instead of watching this just go (re)watch Shakugan no Shana, it is a far better anime that has a similar vibe.
The story could likely go somewhere awesome but they dropped so many plot points it would take a lot of work and they clearly aren't getting renewed. I didn't think it was awful but I can't really recommend watching it.
