A lot of people are reviewing this based on what they wanted the movie to be, and not what the movie actually was, so let me give you a more honest review.
Many of the people who disliked this movie seem to dislike it for it's lack of action packed scenes, but my favorite parts of One Piece are the interconnecting storylines and plot more so than the battles. This movie was never meant to be action only, nor was it marketed to be. It's about Luffy's childhood friend, a singer who made him want a muscian more than anything, and is literally named "song," and
...
it is set at her concert, so of course it was going to have more music and plot than fighting.
There are also a lot of people complaing about Uta herself, which is, quite frankly, a travesty. I believe more people would have liked here had the movie been just a little longer, allowing for her story to be a little les rushed. I love to pull apart stories and do in depth character analysis, and Uta helps put together so many of the missing puzzle pieces of Luffy's back stroy. Yet that flies right over people's heads as they hate on Film Red for not being an action based movie. I would go off on my analysis of her, but I don'twantto include spoilers.
It's tragic and emotional, and we get to see some of the more human parts of Shanks, like in chapter one of the series. It adds a lot to the depth of canon even though the main event of the movie isn't canon. Uta is though! It was confirmed by Oda and she appeears as a silohoutte in a more recent chapter, so from this, we can assume that at least the childhood things might be canon. Though I do believethat people should take canon vs non-canon a little less seriously and choose to have fun with it instead.
I cried while in the theater.
In short, I adore this movie and Uta. It's quickly become my favorite One Piece movie, and I doubt anything can replace it now. I'm incredibly happy with it even if there were small things I would change just too keep it form seeming so rushed on the reveals. Though the rushing wasn't even that bad, I just pay too much attention to that sort of thing.
10/10 I plan to buy it on disk.

I only read this because my partner bought the first five volumes, and I'd give it a solid 6/10
Sports anime/manga (because dancing is a sport, this counts) aren't typically my cup of tea. Romance anime/manga even less so when it's got a lot of the "sexiness" that many people might actually finds draws them to a particular manga. This is because I prefer romance to be secondary to the plot, but that's why this manga was okay with me. The plot is the driving force behind the romance instead of the other way around, and that was nice to see.
That doesn't mean the plot
...
made sense. Some of it was flash forewards that only caused extra confusion, and had no other associated foreshadowing that could lead up to those moments. There was a lot of jumping around as well, which was unecessary in context.
The art is beautiful and is the thing that I enjoyed the most, though there were a handful of times that something looked ever so slightly weird. It may have just been me though. I do, however, think it's off that one of the main characters, a cuban, suddenly loses all his skin color just by living in Japan. Half asian or not, people's skin colors don't go from completely dark to pasty pale, and seeing as he's shown out in the sun, I feel his skin would still be somewhat darker. There are many black and dark skinned characters in the manga, and they are drawn fairly well, so why not do that for your main character.
The character's personalities are very rocky at first, and they only solidify as the manga continues. There's also a few moments in which they seem to revert back to their original personalities for a moment.
So while I enjoyed having something new to read, I likely wouldn't read it again.

I don't want to say too much because I fear spoiling things for people, but it's a wonderfully done dysotopian romance, and as a queer person, I feel that the queer relationship was written genuinly. It's treated just the same as any straight romance in anime, and for that I was very greateful.
The story line is deep and interesting, especially once it wraps up at the end, the art is gorgeous and occasionally gorey, and I enjoyed the entire series thuroughly.
The only thing I felt was off was how fast the characters seemed to shrug off trauma, however, seeing as all people handle
...
trauma differently, it can't really be counted as something "off." They deal with trauma in the way they must to continue staying alive in their society, and it gives readers a wonderful perspective on that.
So in short, I came for they dysotopian manga hoping to not be disapointed in the queer relationship attempt, and my expectations were blown out of the water.
10/10 in all categories for me.

Two updates below original review.
I read One Piece when there was only 996 chapter out, and I read all of them over the course of three days. It was easy to consume and very eye catching, but it's by no means one of my favorite manga. The story arcs are all wonderful and the characters are unique and have interesting backstories and driving forces (though the girls get sidlined more and more as time goes on). The art however... I think I'd like it more if the ladies looked like the they actually have organs inside of their bodies. The art for the settings
...
and the guys however, is beautiful, and that is what keeps the score at a solid 6 on art.
I enjoyed it. 7.5/10
Edit: My partner has made me re read it, and I have found myself liking it FAR more than I did before hand, not that I'm not reading it only to shut up people who toldme I should. There are still many things I take issue with, such as the art and sidlining of certain characters, but I have come to enjoy it a lot more now That I have someone to talk about it with as well. It now sits at a more solid 8/10
Edit 2: It's consumed my life. Oda is a foreshadowing god and I am a slut for forehadowing. 10/10, I've read it through five times already.

10/10, changed to 8/10, update at the bottom since many of my thoughts are still the same.
I keep up to date with the manga, and as much as I love Fairy Tail, I think Edens Zero is Mashima's best work to date. There's a lot of people in the reviews who read less than 30 chapters, and that's why they dislike it. In the beginning it's very reminiscent of Fairy Tail, but he does that so he can break the mold as the series goes on. The main character, Shiki, has to learn that he can't be friends with everyone just because he wants the
...
universe to be a kind place.
You CANNOT go into this expecting it to be like Fairy Tail. Like I mentioned, it starts that way, but it doesn't really stick with it. It gets significantly darker, and there are moments of existential horror that Fairy Tail could never manage to pull off. I personally don't know of a series that I would say has a lot of similarities, but I would say it reminds me more of One Piece than Fairy Tail. Since most people are comparing it to Fairy Tail though, I am going to keep with that theme.
Freindship isn't the main theme of the story. It's an important facet of it, yes, but it's not the theme nor the only driving force. Because it's only a small piece of what's considered important by each character, I think it does the found family troupe even better than Fairy Tail did. Fairy Tail's focus on nothing but found family and friendship caused it to overpower the character's other goals, but because of the depth of Eden's Zero's characters, it feels more realistic. Each of the main characters have their own agency and goals, and those goals are constantly being spoken about and aimed for, which makes them much more well rounded than many of the characters in Mashima's previous series. They don't start off being friends either. That friendship has to be earned.
Even most of the villains have deep and interesting backstories and reasons for how they behave, which is not something he did very often or he would only half ass in Fairy Tail. There are still villains who are just scum in general, but those are always the small fry.
He does reuse some character designs, but any fan of his works knows that it's just a thing he does either as a tribute to former characters or as a running gag. For example, Plue appears in Rave, Fairy Tail, and briefly as an alien species in Edens Zero. Happy is here too, though if you read a lot of this, you'll find him to be quite a bit different from his exceed counterpart. The last example I will being up is Justice, who is drawn similarly to one of Mashima's oldest characters. Since he primarily does this with side characters, and it's only their appearance that he reuses, it's never bothered me much.
He's also not the only artist to do it, not by a long shot, so I don't understand the hate he gets for it.
The art is phenomenal. Period. The panels of outer space are mesmerizing, and the details in all the ships are beautiful. The characters and the robotic designs are visually interesting and caught my attention.
There are a lot of heavy topics in Edens Zero, and while some appear in fairy Tail, Mashima mostly skipped past them with his previous work. Rather than shove grief to the side, it's spoken about and dealt with in Edens Zero in a relatively healthy way. Victims stand up to their abusers far more often than in Fairy Tail, and with the friendships and found family that they have beside them, they win against those threats. It's dealt with so much more in depth, and that helps create so much character growth for these characters to go through.
Speaking of growth, not a single character in the series is exactly like they were when you first meet them by volume 17. They're not even the same people by volume 10. They grow and change with the story and as they adapt to the situations they end up in, and that's a big part of why I think it's Mashima's best series so far.
UPDATE to this post as of 2/15/2023:
There's a lot of ups and downs and arcs that I was not personally a fan of, but we're back in another upswing in the most recent chapters. I have since changed the rating I gave the series due to my personal opinion on specific arcs, but I still think you should read it and decide for yourself how you feel instead of relying solely on another person's opinion.

I love Fairy Tail so much, and I've been a fan for years, so as someone who's read all the existing spin offs, I was so excited for the sequel. The word "disapointment" is an understatment for what this is.
They reduce every character down to whatever their two strongest character traits were in the original, and half of them are now only focused on the other half of their ship. There's none of the character depth from the original, and many characters, like Gray, change completely to fit the ship naritive. That by itself is enough to dismantle the entire story. Not to spoil
...
a moment of this terrible series, but there is literal vore that appears out of no where and without warning. It's no longer fanservice at that point, it's disturbing.
The story was garbage and doesn't match up to the morals the characters have shown to have (Natsu, specifically), but that can be chalked up to what I have already mentioned. the characters are reduced to nothing but a shell of who they were formerly.
The art is really wonky in places as well, and it only gets worse throughout the series. I have seen panels from far ahead of where I stopped. They're horrid. I wishI could rate this sequel a 0.
