I don't review every show I watch but when one exceeds my expectations I just have to. Ever wish you could forget the plot to an anime and go back and watch it all over again, enjoying the same level of suspense it had the first time? Well that's how I feel at the moment as its still fresh on my mind days after watching it.
The story follows a college freshman going through many of the experiences someone at that age may during their "golden" years hence the shows name. This includes meeting new people, joining various school clubs, getting a job, entering relationships and
...
having other unique, significant experiences. You don't see many anime of this type focus on college life vs middle or high school so that's something great to separate it from the rest (seriously why is this such a rare thing?). It was also great that this show does not wait until the very end for the main characters to get together. Some might think the timing of this was too early but I thought it was fine. I'm glad it took advantage of the characters ages and showcased a more complex and imperfect young adult relationship while still allowing there to be some innocence, I thought it was a perfect balance to make a good story. The real unique thing about this show however is that the main male character has amnesia and is unable to remember anything from high school and earlier and this eventually comes with a pretty tragic twist. I'm not kidding when I say the last quarter of the show will really pull on your emotions.
As for the characters, they are very diverse with a great deal of character depth. The drama doesn't feel too magnified compared to what might happen in the real world given the circumstances and I genuinely felt bad for the characters at times, especially towards the end. I'll be honest I actually didn't like Banri and Kouko's characters at first but that quickly changed as I continued to watch and learn more about them. I eventually found Banri pretty relatable so if anyone else feels the same way at first, I highly advise against dropping.
Soundtrack is great and the characters and other artwork is bright and well drawn too, not much more to say than that.
The ending left me very satisfied and I don't think I would've wanted it any different. The only thing I can nitpick is the whole ghost of Banri thing being a bit weird and a character I otherwise hated but that's minor, otherwise this show comes pretty damn close to being a masterpiece. The main takeaway I've gotten from watching this show is basically live and enjoy your life to the fullest and make as many great memories as you can. Thanks YouTube for recommending me a clip from this anime else I may have never found it.

After hearing the announcement of the Inuyasha sequel anime Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, I gave this movie which has always been one of my favorite anime films a re-watch and decided to write a short review.
The story of the movie is well written and unlike the other 3 films, provides information that adds to the series as a whole; it gives us insight on who Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's father was by taking us to the beginning of their bitter rivalry. The entire plot easily could have been inserted into the TV series as a cannon arc. There is also a nice variety of settings, plenty
...
of action and some light humor which keeps it from getting boring. As for the animation, well it is a bit dated but acceptable. Inuyasha's soundtrack never disappoints, nor does the English dub cast I fondly remember back when I was a teenager.
Of the 4 Inuyasha movies, this one is my favorite and something any fan of Inuyasha should see.

I'll start by saying this is the first Yuri series I have ever decided to pick up. I'm usually a shounen kind of guy who doesn't really watch/read slice of life or romance anime/manga but I found this series highly enjoyable. After finishing the anime, I wanted to know if there was more Citrus out there and I was happy to find out there were plenty more chapters left so I quickly binged the rest of it. Why a second season hasn't been adapted yet is beyond me because the series deserves the justice, even if I enjoyed reading the manga a bit more.
I
...
did enjoy the beginning chapters but found the story so much more engaging, heartwarming but also sad at times in the second half of the manga, this is where the relationship between Yuzu and Mei really starts to develop and feel much more authentic and not just like two lustful, confused teens in love. This is also where you learn the most about Mei's character and see just how conflicted she is on the inside with not as much control over her own life as you may think. Besides the romance, with most of the story taking place at a strict, very orderly high school, Citrus convoys a message that shows you just how miserable someone can be when they try too hard to conform to what other people expect and don't instead be themselves and pursue whatever makes them happy. It also shows just how helpful having supportive friends in your time of need who accept you for who you are can be as well.
In a nutshell, Citrus is a touching read with beautiful artwork that will make you feel a rollercoaster of emotions and I think is a great introduction to the Yuri genre.

Konosuba, boy what a fun show this was. People seem to compare it to Sword Art Online a lot and while the setting and genre is similar its so vastly different in tone and just because you enjoyed or hated one doesn't mean you'll feel the same way about the other. Konosuba is also a show that you watch not to follow a story or to experience emotional highs and lows, you're just looking for something outright hilarious and fun, something Konosuba most certainly is.
Story: (10/10) To put it bluntly, there is not much of a plot nor does the story feel like it advances
...
much at all but that's not what they were going for nor is it a problem. Konosuba sort of feels like watching some really great anime filler, like a cluster of funny episodes in a 100+ episode series that don't advance the story but you'd still go back and re-watch like 10 times because they were just that good. What is great is the setting and the short but silly adventures the characters go on and that's all that matters.
Art/animation: (8/10) Art style is bright, colorful and characters all have creative designs, not much more to say than that. Unfortunately, the animation is a bit choppy at times with a lot of still images in places I wished were fully animated and moments I thought they could've nailed the facial expressions better. Nothing major though.
Music/Sound: (9/10) Music and sound effects were fine, added to the humor in a lot of good ways. No complaints here. Opening/Ending themes I enjoyed enough to where I didn't skip them.
Characters: (10/10) Kazuma isn't exactly your typical male protagonist, hes just sort of your average guy that functions as the voice of reason for his party, which happens to be a bunch of crazy girls, each with their own unique quirks. You have a useless goddess with an overly dramatic personality, a young girl who faints after casting explosion spells and a kinky masochist tank who loves to get beat up in combat. Somehow, it works perfect and this group of misfits all seem to have great chemistry together.
Enjoyment: (10/10) Konosuba was a fun show to binge and is easily the funniest anime I ever watched. The raunchy humor had me laughing out loud multiple times throughout the short 10 episode series and never felt forced or like the jokes got old. I suppose its not the kind of humor everyone would enjoy but I sure did. Konosuba is a new favorite I'll definitely go back and re-watch after completing the following season and OVAs.
Overall: (10/10) Konosuba is a great show that's easily one of the best in the comedy genre. If you're looking for something quick, ridiculous and funny and don't mind modest amounts of fan service thrown in there too then look no further.

I usually avoid long running action/adventure shonens, and I feel a bit late to the party watching this for the first time in 2019 but I very much enjoyed Fairy Tail. I've considered picking it up for over a year now, seeing how people have a lot of polarized opinions on it just made me more interested. After finishing the first series, I really think Fairy Tail gets a lot more hate than it deserves, although I don't see Fairy Tail by the nature of the type of anime it is appealing to everyone. As a newcomer, here's my somewhat long review of the first
...
series:
Characters: (9/10)
I loved the characters, which is good because having lovable characters is important to keeping someone interested in a long running series. There’s quite a few of them and all the main ones have a great deal of character depth and interesting backstories that progressively get uncovered, especially Erza, my favorite character who in my opinion undergoes the most character development of the bunch. Once I saw that Fairy Tail had more to offer than just comedy/fighting scenes I got hooked to it. I even felt like I was able to relate to some of the characters in a few ways. There’s also the very strong "friendship conquers all" and “were one big family” attitude that everyone has towards one another which I ended up liking a lot.
Story/Setting: (7/10)
I very much liked the setting and overall theme. A story about a guild of wizards/group of friends in a world of magic, it’s been done before but I enjoyed it here. After a few arcs, Fairy Tail does start to follow a predictable pattern where usually Natsu is the one to come through and save his friends even if he starts off getting his butt kicked but the arcs are different enough in setting and objective from the past ones that it held my interest. Would have been nice to see a bit more relationship development too but there is some. In a nutshell, I thought the story was good but could've been better.
Music/Sounds: (10/10)
The OST is fantastic, Yasuharu Takanashi did an amazing job here. Has a great mix of heavy metal songs during the fighting scenes, celtic/folk-inspired epic music and mellow/emotional songs. I find myself occasionally listening to the OST when I work/study, it’s that good. Opening/Ending themes are great too with my favorite openings being the 3rd, 8th & 10th and favorite endings being the 2nd, 3rd & 14th. English dub voice acting was very good as well.
Art/Animation: (8/10)
I think the art style is great and sets it apart from most other animes. Loved the character armor/weapon designs. Perhaps there’s some moments I wished still images that were shown were fully animated but it’s not a huge knock against it. All the fighting scenes were very well animated.
Enjoyment: (9/10)
Overall, I had a great time binging this show over the course of a couple weeks. It cracked me up many times, warmed my heart and almost got me to cry a couple times. It certainly has a unique charm that separates it from other long running series, as its the 2nd anime that I've ever bothered to watch more than 100 episodes of. Plenty of episodes and arcs have their rewatch value, including some stand-alone filler episodes some of which I didn’t even know were filler until I looked them up. I did lose interest a bit during some of the filler arcs but they weren’t so bad that I considered skipping them, just not as good as the canon material. A few fillers added a great deal of character depth and further explored the characters pasts or just had some really sweet moments in them so I'd recommend not skipping all of the fillers, but you always can if you want to.
Whether or not you'll enjoy Fairy Tail depends on your tastes. If you just outright hate long running series, a little fan service or animes that aren't afraid to get goofy with humor at times (including right in the middle of a fight or after a really emotional moment) you may not like it but I'm glad I gave Fairy Tail a chance and would consider it one of my favorite animes now. Fairy Tail isn't perfect but it is a great show that hasn't aged poorly and if you like charming characters, humor, fighting scenes that are cool but aren't super drawn out with lots of heartwarming moments in between I'd recommend giving it a go.

Ugh. I wanted to like this seeing as it was a spin-off to one of my favorite animes of all time (Blood+ as well was Blood: The Last Vampire) but couldn't. Sucks because it actually had some potential to be decent too.
First, Saya's personality makes her one of the most unlikable female protagonists in any action anime I've ever watched. She's a total airhead. A shy, clumsy (yet somehow a master with her sword), awkward girl with glasses.. it just doesn't fit the "hero" role or whatever role they were trying to make her at all. Also, so much animation time, especially in the first
...
few episodes, is wasted with her just running from place to place, tripping and falling or walking around singing for like 30 seconds sometimes (which is cringe worthy annoying, I almost dropped it right there the first time I heard her sing). All of this time could've been put to better use maybe by developing the other characters since none of them were memorable at all.
After the first episode my only thoughts were "well.. at least the ending theme is good". I figured since it was only 12 episodes I could just tolerate it and maybe it will get better and while it sort of redeems itself in the last few episodes by throwing a plot twist to everything, I didn't feel satisfied enough for being bored to death during the first half because of how slow the pacing was.
Onto the good, well the art is nice. Character drawings are pretty and the fighting scenes are well animated. The horror aspect is also very present during the monster scenes along with plenty of gore but maybe too much at times. When you stab someone with a sword you wouldn't expect blood to gush out like you just opened a fire hydrant. Those are really the only appealing things about the show.
If you don't care at all about the story, like seeing people get senselessly cut up, disfigured, eaten and you haven't seen anything better to compare this series to you might like it, but even then I would say just watch a compilation of the death scenes on youtube to get the same shock value and save yourself the time because this really is the longest 12 episodes I've ever watched. But if you'd like to see a much better anime with a similar concept of a girl slaying monsters and slowly uncovering her forgotten past executed and paced much better seriously go watch Blood+.
