WTF is this one... Why does this look so good but have stuff that makes me go ehh... It does not make sense.
So Mahiro gets drugged by his sister and now he's now a girl. Oh boy, that doesn't sound good isn't it? Fortunately, for the most part, it's wholesome. As for why? You should watch the first episode of this. A little convoluted but alright.
Under the surface, it's a well made show. The studio clearly gave it love. The dynamic between the Oyama siblings is there and it's good. This is mostly the focus on the first half of the show. The latter half
...
shifts to the typical wholesome school life with the introduction of his classmates. As a side note, it's kinda weird for them to appear on both the OP and ED before that point. Under the gender-bender theme, it's pretty much a daily school life plot especially the latter half. Because of how crowded this genre is, it doesn't stand out amongst the crowd by a lot. Oh boy, the toilet running gag gave me flashbacks on a terrible anime that aired last year. Fortunately, it's not overly long as that one.
Visually it looks pretty. It has a more pastel appearance compared to a typical Japanese animation production. Also there are new scenes not seen from the manga. Some doesn't look comfy. Some are pretty wholesome. 99%, it's well made. Animation is also good. I also like to mention their OP/ED. OP, I don't recommend watching it. Just listen to Spotify or the like. The ED, watch it.
Under the surface, you get a pretty good school life anime. It's a well made show with high production values on top of that. Whether or not you'll like this will depend on if you could tolerate some of their additions because of it, I can't recommend it to everybody. Try one episode then 3 and then watch it fully. I'd be surprised if this doesn't make the cut on Best Visuals or Animation.

Despite my rating in MAL, this anime will not be for everybody. It's fairly niche show despite the recognition the internet has given to it.
The visuals are very good and creative with lots of gags in these. Bocchi is pretty much why you will sign up for the show and maybe the music. This is where it kind of falls apart. If you don't like her, you're not going to enjoy it as much. Well, are the other characters are as developed as her? No. The other 3 aren't as good as it could be. I think the first character of the band you
...
meet is in my opinion, the least used character. They didn't give her as much time as the other two or maybe I'm missing something. The music is actually good. This is critical for a show about music though I prefer classical piano pieces. Don't take my word for it because that's just my own taste in music.
Don't get me wrong Cloverworks did an incredible job in this adaptation. This is how you should do adaptations. Maybe not this exact way but you get the idea. It worked very well on the audiences it was targeting but outside of it, your enjoyment will vary. Even more so than usual.

13 Episodes later, I'm back with another review of this beloved series. Does it live up to the high expectations that others have hyped up?
This anime starts right off at the end of Season 2 up to the much hyped Cultural Festival Arc. It's basically split to 3 parts, the other stuff (Ep. 1-5), preparation of the Cultural Festival Arc (6-7) and the proper cultural festival arc (8-13). The first part is the part that is the most similar to the first season. It ends (and peaks) at Episode 5 with the rapping episode. The 2nd part is in my opinion the weakest as it
...
is obviously a buildup to future episodes though these shouldn't be skipped E V E R. The 3rd one is the most hyped up part of the anime and it delivers the goods. I will say, they f**king did it. It gets a bit dramatic there and kind of goes on for some time but I'd say it's worth the hype. Discounting the cultural festival arc episodes, the best episode in my opinion is the one with the rap.
On the characters, there's a bit of an emphasis on minor characters. Maki is discount Kaguya pretty much. She's pretty important in 2 segments then, took a back seat. I hope we get more in the future. We get the Real main characters if this was a typical rom com, Nagisa and Tsubasa. You may have known them in the first season. They're kinda back. I think the minor character that had the most screen time is Tsubame. The B plot with Ishigami seems to be unfinished so I think future seasons may return to them in some episode. In the main characters, we swing back to focus more on Miyuki and Kaguya. I just like how they developed over the 37 episodes we've seen them.
I don't talk about the dubs but the English dub as of right now it is slightly borked. Be ready for Miyuki to sound weird in this season. Why? Because the VA that voiced him got a voice injury and had to be subbed. This should be fixed months down the line.
Visually, it seems to be a much more higher budget version of the previous seasons. Unfortunately no rotoscoped parts here. At the very least their utilization of CG is high quality and subtle except for episode 13 where I think all of the budget went to. Even with that, this will not be remembered as a visual treat as in my opinion, there are other anime that pushes the visuals further than this.
In the music, if you like the previous seasons' music, you may like this too. One thing I failed to mention is that some of the music are references to other music. Blame my ineptitude in this area.
This season in my opinion is peak Kaguya and for some, rom coms in general for the decade. Everything that the premise promised us from the very beginning comes to fruition here. I very much enjoyed this.
Will this get a 4th season? Well, there is an announcement of another Kaguya anime someday. Whether it's TV or movie format will not be known until several months later (Update: It's confirmed to be a movie and will air by the end of the year or early next year in Japan). So, this anime ain't dead yet. Huzzah! According to the manga, the anime does not cover half of the manga so there is still content to adapt. I'd say around 3-4 seasons worth of content. If they're going to adapt from start to finish, Kaguya-sama will have 7-9 seasons by the end if it's exclusively on television which I find highly unlikely. I think 6-7 seasons and 2-4 movies is much more likely but that's just my prediction. It would be interesting to see how they adapt future chapters from this point on.

I'll say this: This anime is good but not top-tier yet because we are still in the intro phase of this show.
Conceptually, the setting and story is pretty good. I like the change to not East or West Germany in the not Cold War instead of Japan or some fantasy JRPG-like world.
The characters is where it shines. Anya is top tier in meme faces and being cute but the rest, well, they're fine. This is where it has similarity to Kaguya-sama. Similar characters, and the male and female MC tries to hide something. This will need more time before I would give a fairly better
...
opinion of the characters. Maybe until Part 2 releases.
The art is pretty good. Animation is is great especially when it counts. I can't definitively say if there's a difference between a Cloverworks produced episode and a Wit produced one but right now the differences are none to minimal.
Background music is good the OP and ED is good too but my preference tells me that I like Kaguya-sama's third OP more than this.
This one has potential to be one of the best of the season or year but it needs more time to let it shine. If you're still on the fence on this, keep waiting.

If you have seen this studio's track record you will know the quality of this anime from the get go. It's not good.
The premise of being in a game, throw it out because it doesn't matter that much anyways. Also throw out the fact the MC changed gender. It's at best a gimmick for 2-3 episodes.
Supposedly, the first episode is the most important part of any show because this is the time where you get the most eyes and this anime fails hard at that. It is the worst first episode I've seen. The setup is way too fast, then there's this fight of
...
one bad CGI army and another bad CGI army then ends with a montage which seems like they ran out of budget.
I will say, this gets better as it airs but a ton of people probably have checked out of this after that terrible first impression but it doesn't really reach "good". It's bogged down by the predictable fetch questing. Go to this guy and get something at this location. At least you get to see some okay-ish places. It's not beautiful but it's passable.
Aside from the backgrounds, the 3DCG is pretty bad. It just sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, at some scenes, there's a lack of animation where I expect there should be some.
I haven't talked about characters. To say the least, they're forgettable.
The music is fine but misplaced at times. It ruins the atmosphere of a fight scene (first and last episodes suffer from this).
This anime is probably one of the worst of the season with its subpar production values. It could have been decent if these things are fixed. If this is the quality that the studio is capable of, I think they should be relegated to a supporting studio until they get more experience.
If you like the world here, you are better off buying the light novel or manga.

This special left me confused as heck. I'll try to put my thoughts in this without spoiling the plot
The first half is a recap which is disappointing. The meat and potatoes of this special is the other half. It tries to resolve some of the questions left from the 12 episode run but answers a few and also gives more questions. Its unresolved nature feels like a poor attempt to tease a season 2. The characters are okay. It's nice to see all of the main cast though I think they still feel unresolved even after this one. The art/animation is not special. A lot
...
of still frames and hard cuts were used here and the music is exactly the same as with its predecessor.
WEP: My Priority feels rushed to meet the deadline again like Episode 12. It suffers from the same pitfalls as with that episode; inconclusive story, unresolved characters and rushed animation. I don't expect them to make a Season 2 of this which is a complete shame because of its potential to be one of the year's best.

This anime is pretty good. It will put you in tears (particularly in the final episode). Get ready for your tissues if you're going to watch this. The story is well thought out though simple. It mostly consist of slow and serious parts especially at the end with few light hearted ones to balance things out. The characters are well defined and doesn't go too over the top. Character development is good too. They change at least slightly as the show progresses though a huge bulk of it happens in the final episode. The art here is fine for 2011. I don't think it pushes
...
anything amazing. The music is pretty good especially the OP/ED. It fits to the scene that is in play.
It's a great show (Not sure if this is the best of 2011 due to heavy competition). I recommend to anyone that would like to cry or wants a good drama.

This is basically an extension to the movie. If you haven't watched the movie yet, there's a good chance you're going to be lost. There are 4 stories that take place in between the events of the movie. The supporting characters are fleshed out a lot here and were given motivations on why they think in some way. It also gives more context on some of the scenes in the movie. The art is kind of meh especially compared to the movie. It feels muted. I don't think coloring it would help its case by a lot. The plot barely exists. Some comical parts here,
...
serious part there. Makes the movie look like a literary masterpiece compared to this.
This manga is decent on giving more context to the movie. As I said, it is made as an extension so to get the most out of this manga, you have to watch the movie.
I wish Makoto Shinkai makes this into a movie or OVA that is somewhat similar to 5 Centimeters per Second in structure someday.

A fairly fresh take on the Pokémon anime. The story is more open ended and the artstyle is changed somewhat significantly. These changes made it a hit or miss to the audience. You will either love it or hate it. Like with many long-running series, there are some crappy episodes (especially the filler ones). The action is good despite the logic doesn't follow the games that much. Animation is decent and shines in the action-heavy and comedic scenes.
I think this series is worth a watch if you like slice of life. You will need to commit a lot of time on this since it is
...
146 episodes long though you could skip a couple of episodes without that much penalty also, you don't need prior knowledge to previous Pokémon series to know what's going on (It's a bonus if you know the original anime though).

Basically just more Cells at Work. The art isn't that notable aside from a few crappy scenes. The story kinda stinks especially when Normal Cell is the focus (The last 2 episodes are the highlights even though they padded that arc quite a bit). He is very bland (possibly with intention). What is also a shame is that Red Blood Cell is sidelined for most of the series. She just appears to exist in many episodes. The lactobacilli are not replacements of her even though they are really cute (potential merch?). If you don't like Season 1, I doubt this will change your mind on
...
that.
