Niedola

Somebody said that Universe is quite the joyful representation of a doll-like character's point of view, pointing out that the little girl in the music video looks like Charlotte from Madoka Magica's series. Well if Universe is the life of Charlotte in her dreams and positive fantasies, in Niedola you'll find the spooky labyrinth of a gloomy girl obsessed with butterflies and a murderous past/event; could that be considered Gertrud the witch?

Niedola

In the Madoka's series we can see magical girls fighting evil witches; the protagonists usually fight in the witches' den: the labyrinth, representation of the damned magical girl's negative life-experience. In the music video Niedola you'll find the perfect possible representation of that labyrinth, similar 3D animation, hurt girls, gothic and horror setting... In the ONA you'll even find a not-so-explained murder and a possible lesbian relationship (?), common themes of the Madoka's franchising. Musics are totally different: if the magical girls preferred religious notes, matryoshka's song surely revokes a dreamy fantasy with an inspired whispered melody. *If you liked the ONA, you could be find interesting reading the bloody horror oneshot "The End In Common Ruin" by the artist Mitsuzaku Mihara, about two lolita sisters with a morbid relationship.

Aki no Kanade
add

They're both about girls with a big passion for music: the TeaTime band prefers pop-rock and modern instruments but Aki is into taiko, a traditional japanese drum. The two anime are completely different for duration: K-On is a long TV series (2 regular seasons with a movie) and Aki no Kanade is just a oneshot movie for the Anime Mirai Project, but they both involve a character growth and a deep reflection about time passing and social relationships (with the family, friends...), all blended with a special melancholy for the past.

Mars no Kiss
add

They're both about women finding out abruptly to have interest in women. The protagonists struggle with inner resistance due to their previously conventional relationships with men but on the other side they're guided by the strong and deep affection (and attraction) towards their beloveds. To sum up they're both manga about a sort of sexual epiphany.

Maou sa

In the two one-shots the main character is a devil being forced to stay on earth. At the beginning the devil tries his best to come back to hell (or his infernal home, whatever), but in both chapters a sudden event and a change of mind make them think that, maybe, the life on earth is not that bad...

Steel Rose
add

Both series are about young Asian people trying to find their way in NY, overcoming thier family problems and being a foreigner in a foreign country. The manhwa is more "harsh": there is no happy time or lucky strike, it's really realistic and highly dramatic. On the other side, Steel Rose is more a love comedy, with stereotyped characters: the main couple is perfectly composed by two lovers refusing their gender (graphically and sometimes even psychologically).

Diamond Dust
add

They share the same "deep love-story destined to die due to degenerative illness" theme. In particular Socrates in Love prefers show all the teenage feelings of timid and unexperienced students, Diamond Dust is more about social outcasts: a depressed pianist and an indie artist facing the problems of being unable to communicate to the world. They share the same "pathos" and similar extreme and desperate sentimental actions: going to Australia and "smuggling" the grandmother's ashes for the two students in love, completing and performing the song "Diamond Dust" for the two musicians. Tragic endings in both works, but quite fitting the idea of sentimental "Bildungsroman".

Gondora
add

Protagonists are old men going crazy; even the art style is similar. However Gondora has a "musical background" that gives it a more psychic and surreal appearance, on the other hand 48X61 is based on a caricature comic plot, which can make it result less disturbing.

Hate You
add

Both have as protagonists strong girls with blades and big guns, chasing and fighting monsters. They're completely different format ( TV series VS Music video) but the girls even share a disrespect towards men and boys in general: Panty and Stocking and the 2NE1 give us the appearance of strong female leads, totally independent from male heroes.

Genkaku Picasso

Both protagonists share the same social problem: they're two outcasts, all alone with their obsession: masturbating for Kurosawa and drawing for Hamura/Picasso. Their attitude, which is supposed to make them appear strong and not concerning the students company, is but a way to conceal the fact that both are really scared to have social contact with others. In the two manga Kurosawa and Picasso end up helping people: Kurosawa is worried for his classmate Kitahara and all the people he hurt, Picasso becomes a sort of paranormal "psychological fixer". To sum up, their both works which fae the theme of growing up and becoming adults.
