Having just finished all ten volumes of this light novel in one sitting (or close to it), I want to share my thoughts. This LN is not for the impatient. It requires commitment (just like marriage, unfortunately), but for those who stick with it, it is a masterpiece in its own right (just like marriage again, unfortunately). Of course, this is my personal perspective.
Some may feel that the characters are too distant to relate to, but I disagree. Personally, I found a strong connection between the MC and myself, while my wife’s personality aligns to that with the FMC - at least in terms of

behaviour, to a certain extent. That said, I will do my best to keep this review as objective as possible, despite my personal biases.
Due to the way the story is titled, it is difficult to spoil too much: they are married, and they are enemies. However, expect a narrative that takes you on a learning journey, albeit one filled with cyclical developments. Some events in the novel are entirely believable, while others make you wonder what the author was smoking while writing them.
For transparency, I read the fan-translated version of all ten volumes, which may have influenced my experience.
This is a story about acceptance of oneself, of others and acceptance of others into your life. It also delves deeply into the dynamics of marriage, emphasizing understanding and the tolerance of each other's quirks.
Saito (the MC) is dense as hell, denser than Osmium and the walls of his head is thicker than the walls of the deepest bunker on earth. Akane (the FMC) is a tsundere who struggles to express herself truthfully, whether to Saito or to the supporting characters. As a result, misunderstandings become so frequent that they stop being funny. There were moments when I found myself silently screaming at both of them to straighten up and be honest with each other. Then I thought of my wife and myself, and I decided to cut them some slack.
Expect some parts of the story to be extremely infuriating, especially in the interactions between the supporting cast and the main characters. If you put yourself in Akane’s shoes in a real-life context, you might start questioning whether the people around her are truly her friends and family—or devils in disguise. While some elements of the story might hint at a harem setup, this is not one. Personally, I found certain parts frustrating to read, but that frustration is part of the journey. And despite that, I also found myself shedding tears at key moments, especially toward the end. There were also moments where I thought, "Finallyyyy."
This light novel requires patience and dedication, but those who persevere will find a richly rewarding experience. While it has its share of absurd moments, it also offers, to a certain extent, profound reflections on relationships, understanding, and personal growth. Personally, I feel that reading this light novel is an epitome of marriage itself—demanding understanding, tolerance, and patience. It could even be seen as a social commentary on the current state of marriage, though perhaps I’m overthinking it. Like marriage, this light novel may not be for everyone, but for those who connect with its themes, it is nothing short of extraordinary.
There, here is my review. I have written and rewritten it to make it as spoiler-free as possible.
I wish you well if you decide to pick this series up after reading my review, but don’t do it at one go like me.
Have a good one!
Reviewer note: Volume 10 added no substantial value but frustration. This LN ended at 9 for my canonically. The scoring of this review is until volume 9 because it might be a 6/10 if i included in the cliches of Volume 10 in.
