Build Divide: Code White for me is an overall step up from Code Black, and a lot more entertaining. This season took a rather "serious" approach to the tone, with a lot more stakes at hand and more truths to be revealed about Neo Kyoto.
Our main character this time around is Hiyori. From the loveable and dorky apprentice in Code Black to a dignified and strong leader in Code White. I very much enjoy this change, and it makes sense considering the events from last season. She, along with Kikka, fights foes and breaks through obstacles to figure out the absolute truth behind their city.
...
With the ultimate goal being to get their friend/master Teruto back.
Code White definitely explores some of our side characters more and explains their motives for their actions, which was something Code Black was lacking. While it isn't the greatest, it gets enough done to make each character "believable" in a sense.
The animation quality is just about the same as Code Black's to no one's surprise. Nothing terrible, but also nothing great.
Egoist comes back for another banger, befitting of the current state of our characters as well as Neo Kyoto itself.
Who-Ya Extended gives us a really catchy ED, also befitting the tone of the series.
All in all, there isn't too much to say about the series. It has its moments and was entertaining enough for me to finish. I don't regret watching this, but I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants a casual watch. I enjoyed how the main characters contrasted from last season, as well as the battles that were shown.
It was fun, but nothing special.

As a manga reader, there’s many things that must be addressed. For one, since it was 12 episodes long, I knew it would end in the shittiest arc possible. I hated it in the manga, I hate it here as well. Second, the adaptation was close to perfect, unfortunately the presentation of certain scenes were overly expressed more than it needed to be. With the 90% Rape and the 10% Consent, I felt a need, a need to think about this again.
Let me get this straight, as of right now, I enjoy the manga. The latest chapters started spicing things up. However, since the anime
...
adapted such a crappy arc in the first place, there comes no surprise to when I say that I hated the second half of the anime.
Citrus is a Yuri manga that decided to show up after a long time since its announcement. It’s one of those series where you say “fuck it, there’s yuri.”
When I first made my review, I gave it an 8, simply for the fact that I’m biased towards yuri and am basically obligated to watch it for such a reason. But knowing the fact that it goes downhill once the second half begins, just enjoying it for the “yuri” doesn’t become something I say often.
The first half is what you call exceptional, a girl goes to an all-girls school where her mom remarries and her step sister turns out to be someone of important. Thus the encounter captivates her and gives her the green-light to pursue such a love. But can such a love succeed when all Mei can do is use her hands for anything but love. I understand her situation, I get that her only way of communication can be through sexual acts, but when this continues for a long time with little to no change throughout the series, it makes it harder to take her seriously each time.
I appreciate the mature-ish tone that the anime decided to take, but each time they try to make it “impactful,” the actual effect decreases each time they attempt this. I also disliked the fact that they try to drag out the story but putting *ahem* “antagonists.” The first time Matsuri showed up, I was pissed, but thankfully later on she redeemed herself a little bit and became more tolerable. Now when Nana and Sara showed up, oh boy I was attempted to drop the manga there and then. Even though Sara and Nana didn’t stay within the main focus for too long, I just disliked the fact that they’re practically insert characters to prolong the conflict as long as possible.
But of course, not everything about Citrus is bad. The art for the anime looks just about the same as Uta’s drawings, which I do appreciate. The voice acting was superb, each seiyuu fulfilled the role perfectly and captured the feelings no matter the circumstance or situation. The music and opening song were fantastic since I appreciate the stuff nano.RIPE makes. The animation was fine but the CGI near the start of the series was really off-putting. Thankfully, this occurs less as it goes on. Those were really my two cents of the series. I didn’t hate everything about it, but boy did it get annoying to watch later on.
Citrus as an adaptation did well. It followed the panels and it showed almost every detail. Unfortunately they extended scenes that were not needed. Even if it didn’t drive off from the original source, there are things that must not be added. It was quite a shame that it ended off at one of the worst arcs possible, however if you do have the time to read past where the anime ended, then I suggest you would. The manga does get somewhat better, but don’t expect it to be amazing. I am enjoying it thus far now. I do have one pet peeve however, I hated, and I mean hated the way they adapted chapter 8’s kiss scene (out of love). That kiss was one of the best in the manga, and it looked awkward and weird on the anime. That’s just me being picky though.
Citrus succeeded in terms of adaptation, but failed in all other aspects. Although it falls flat, I must say that Saburo Uta did one thing right…
Making Harumin one of the hottest characters in existence.

Ahh yes. The underrated and the darkhorse series that no one talks about. There’s gotta be that one anime that flies over everyone’s radar. Hakumei To Mikochi everyone.
So...no ones talking about this show...why???
It’s weird really how this is one of my favourite anime of the season. I mean it’s about the life of tiny people and how they go through events everyday. It’s a good way to end a Friday if you ask me.
The main story centers around our two main characters Hakumei and Mikochi. The two of them has some of the best character chemistry and interaction I have ever seen. It’s clear how
...
much those 2 care for each other and how they both go through obstacles together. Mikochi is like your housewife who does a lot of the housework and food prep. Hakumei on the other hand is the one who works outside and do lots of mechanical work. It’s fun watching those 2 do what they do best.
Some of the side characters’ personalities prove to be great and well and some of them have a pretty sad backstory. Even if they have minimal screen time, every second they appear I receive joy from them.
I really am tempted to ship Hakumei and Mikochi and want to make this shoujo ai as much as possible, but I shouldn’t.
The animation and art style is super stylistic (as expected from Lerche). Beautiful colours and background art including amazing cinematography. With Andou Masaomi directing, it’s no surprise we get a lot of paneling during the series. He’s also done this with his previous work “Kuzu no Honkai.”
The music is great for it also composed by Evan Call, who is doing music for the series “Violet Evergarden” at the same time. It easily sets the tone and atmosphere for any given situation. He’s looking to be the Kevin Penkin of the season.
The OP is spectacular with captivating visuals as well as a smooth and charming song that just helps you relax. But for maximum relaxation comes the ED with some extra info that forces you to watch the whole ED without skipping. Smart.
Overall Hakumei to Mikochi is one of the best series slice of life has to offer with beautiful characters, soundtracks, art/animation, and interactions. I love the scale comparison when it comes to the characters and objects we see in everyday life. You begin to get a feel for them and be able to put yourself in their shoes. Sad how this has a low score and not many people talk about it. But if you have any time to watch tiny people live in a forest and your Friday ain’t going well, I guarantee you that this series will lighten up the mood as well as your day.
Thank you Lerche.

Violet Evergarden, the anime that has been hyped for a year, has finally arrived with controversy and concern. Is it the masterpiece that’s deemed from most? Certainly not. That does not mean VE could not deliver. I’m not gonna try to defend the anime just cuz it’s KyoAni and it’s highly placed by many, but I will give credit where credit is due. So let’s get started.
There’s no doubt in my mind that VE is visually appealing and accompanied by a great OST. However, do the characters and plot live up to it? So far, it’s too early to say despite 4 episodes still out.
...
But we can kinda take a guess at this point. However, I do find the setting to be quite interesting and how the characters act seem to be somewhat realistic.
There’s many reasons why people can rant on about this series, and no, “It’s KyoAni” and “It’s Overhyped” aren’t some of them despite people using these as reasons regardless. Violet’s introduction left many questioned, many thinking “She’s not interesting.” “She’s Bland” or “She’s 1-Dimensional.” But to be quite honest, the fact that she’s uninteresting and bland means there’s room for growth, and anyone can figure that out considering this has been done quite a lot. The start of the anime really showcases violet and her imperfection. Monotone, Boring, Lacking. Which is all the more reason for me to look forward to the end result of her character after upcoming development. Sure, maybe the way it was executed or presented seems questionable, but what the hell do you expect from a child that's been practically raised in war, got constant blood on her hands, and kills people without batting an eye? Anyways, I believe there’s a bigger picture to this and that this sort of direction has a purpose. Or it could be just bad directing, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
I see no reason to give lack of growth or undeveloped as reasons to criticize characters so early on. It’s like people expect 14 episodes worth of developed from Violet in the first couple episodes. There’s reasons why developments exist, and it’s to further a character and make them more interesting as people would expect to see. However, it’s how they go about this development that makes me question the series a bit. The direction it’s taking can go either way, so we’ll have to see.
Like I’ve said, there’s so much room to give more proper development on violet’s character and the rest, but if it’s accompanied by mediocre writing, then this development would be half assed. Now the writing isn’t horrible for what it’s worth, but sometimes it’s hard to care about what dialogues these characters decide to use. There’s only a lack of substance since it’s still too early for its full potential to be known. So there’s really no “substance” to rate upon anyway. But that’s why although I’m not fond of the writing so far, I look forward to the conclusion and hopefully they successfully develop the characters enough for us to sympathize or to understand them much better. I think people expected this to be somewhat deep and thought-provoking. But this is somewhat a simple story about a girl trying to find herself. Just that it takes on a more dramatic approach.
Despite the inner contents of the series itself, it definitely does the outer contents right. To the art style, the character design, the colours and background, as well as character movement, which makes them feel more realistic and humane. Sometimes the interactions between characters are fun to watch as well.
I think that VE is one of those shows that needs time and a slower process to really form the bigger picture and its true purpose. Although the pacing seems...awfully slow, I wouldn’t go as for to deem it “boring.” For me, I don’t think that at all. It makes me curious for more and how they decide to execute the given scenarios and how each character grows from it. Sure some of the drama hasn’t been so impactful or meaningful thus far, but it’s been mentioned many times here that with enough time, I believe the drama then will carry more impact and weight than before.
I don’t think people should try place this anime on some sort of pedestal because it’s simply KyoAni or it looks amazing. Violet Evergarden is FAR from perfect, but it’s also not horrible at the same time. It’s been mentioned before, I believe it’s one of those anime that requires time to be able to fully understand VE’s potential. So I recommend lowering your hype level of this series and treat it like any other show this winter, because you'll probably ruin the show for yourself if you don’t. Violet Evergarden doesn’t offer much but great visuals and soundtracks along with it. Look at what type of series it is and see if it interests you. I understand many people feel obligated to watch it because it’s solely KyoAni (Me Included tbh). But see if it truly catches your interest. If it doesn’t, then don’t bother.
I think VE may carry a simpler story than one might think. Not insanely thought-provoking or riveting, but I believe that since this show focuses on Violet’s Character, we’d be able to go more in depth on her past life and her adventures later on. We will see Violet grow as a character as she learns from others’ experiences. That’s her job after all, to deliver letters to people and to fully express their emotions onto a piece of paper.
Overall Violet Evergarden has caught my interest personally and although it’s hanging on the edge, I do hope that the staff finds a way to really bring out the full glory of the series into its full light and shows us a great series with fine narratives and well-developed characters (although sometimes the development is being dragged out a bit too much). Not sure why some of the side characters are original, but I suppose they add a bit to Violet's character.
Thankfully, I’ve learned not to give a damn about MAL scores a long time ago, because those “scores” used to influence me whether to watch something or not. I don’t give a fuck if VE ends up in the 6’s or low 7’s once this is over. If I enjoyed it personally and loved it, then that’s that. But again, my opinion on this can change easily. I’ve only read a couple chapters of the source material so I can’t really determine how well the adapatation is so far. But VE shows promise, it’s up to the staff to live up to the promises and opportunities they’re given. Both the OP and ED were beautiful and the OST's are just great, really not much to talk about there.
Overall (as of Episode 12):
Story - 7
Art - 10
Sound - 9
Character - 8
Enjoyment - 8
Anyways, I truly believe Violet Evergarden can come out as one of the best from Winter, dare I say year, if it’s done right…
If.

With Winter 2018 comes a plethora of Slice of Life series. One of them being a war. A war between 2 middle schoolers. Enjoying their youth to the fullest comes the ecstatic interactions between our two main characters, Nishikata and Takagi. In short, the females always win.
That’s basically the whole premise, a girl teasing a boy to no end and his failed attempts at retaliation only fans the flame even more. However, there’s always variety in the way she does her schemes. It’s fun to watch each time and highly enjoyable. As a manga reader, I am glad they were able to present all the
...
emotions correctly and keep the tone as it should be originally. I appreciate the staff at Shin-Ei Animation for making this anime as fun as possible.
I also enjoy the extra cast with their small screen time. The random but appropriate situations the girls make are just as adorable and fun to watch even when it’s for a short time. Works as a lovely transition to the Main Cast once more.
If you’re having a hard time on a Monday and just can’t seem to get in any sort of mood, watch this anime and it’s sure to bring your spirits up.
The art is more nicer than I expected, especially the eye design. The manga had a super simple drawing for the eye unlike the anime where they added a bit more. I like it since it adds a bit more spice to the characters. I love the background art and the colours used in it. The animation is also great. The facial expressions are super fun to see and the character movements, although small, adds a more human feel to the characters. It’s small details like those that I appreciate in a series.
The soundtrack isn’t too special, but it does its job properly, making the anime sound even funnier was accomplished by the soundtrack and I enjoyed listening to it. Both the OP and ED are indeed super catchy and I never skipped it for its cheerful visuals. I loved how we got both Yuki Kaji and Rie Takahashi to play our mains. That makes it even better for the series.
The crazy antics between the two characters are what makes the interaction so...middle-schooler like. Seems just right when it comes to 2 kids having fun teasing eachother. Although, it’s quite one-sided. Even so, the character chemistry is great and you mostly never get bored watching the dynamics between them.
Overall this is an anime that you wanna watch for fun. Nothing too endearing, but there to help with boredom and to put a smile on your face if it does at all. I loved reading the manga and the anime is just as good as it’s presented. I am satisfied with this adaptation so far.

Sit back, relax, and gaze upon the glory that is Yuru Camp.
Tbh I never expected to enjoy a series this much. With all the anime going on on a Thursday, this is definitely a great way to end it. The first episode already captivated me with its amazing soundtrack, character design, and background art.
Our main character Rin, is someone who enjoys camping alone, we see that in episode 1. She's someone who would rather enjoy camping at her own leisure. However, because there are more amazing characters, she soon starts to meet them as well as open up to them more and becomes more social.
...
I appreciate these character interactions because it's so humanlike and it's super sweet and all of them have chemistry with each other.
And it ain't just the characters themselves, the background art and colours are super attractive and really compliments the anime very well. There's also the fact that the background art and amazing colours are accompanied by the AMAZING OST. Each soundtrack piece really sets the vibe for each episode and each event that happens within Yuru Camp. Not to mention that GODLIKE OP. I've never heard such a catchier op than this one this season.
Also, apparently the campsites the girls' go to camp at are actually based on actual locations. I saw a few pictures of it in its real life form and it really looks exactly as the anime shows. It's amazing that these beautiful sites are real places to camp.
So in short:
Story (8) - Very Simple, Rin who loves to camps meets a new girl who eventually befriends her and enjoys camping along with her in due time. Then more girls show up and then they'll all camp together. A simple yet very well executed story that hits every note right.
Art (9) - Each character looks unique and the colours are well used.
Sound (10) - Easily one of the best OST's I've heard and the appropriate timings used of these songs really makes the anime all the better.
Character (10) - Each girl carries a beautiful and amazing personality and shows as well as reminds us how cute the CGDCT genre can be. Each girl is lovable and will not disappoint in putting a smile on your face.
Enjoyment (10) - I've enjoyed each second that Yuru Camp has to offer. I've never got bored of this anime and it was beautiful.
Overall (9) - If the goal of this anime was to give you a big smile and show you how girls can camp extremely well, then it does that very well. What can I say, it does everything right in terms of enjoyment, character, soundtracks, and beautiful art.
Yuru Camp will always be the anime to end my Thursdays. Now if you'll excuse me, I need some Ramen.

It’s unfortunate that many people overlook and under rate CGI based series, me included. But after reading the synopsis and watching 4 episodes, I’m glad I made the decision to watch Land of the Lustrous. I guess you can say this is the…Hidden gem of the season \(\~_~)
Out of all the anime that aired this Fall, Houseki no Kuni caught my attention the most. With its oddly intriguing story along with the setting and characters. The characters of this series are gems. You know, Diamond, Jade, Alexandrite, and the other ones. Each gem has a certain hardness, how easy they can break. One of the
...
very weak gems are our main characters, Phos and Cinnabar. I did not do any research so I have no idea about how each gem acts and their exact information. But the anime does well to explain enough the characteristics of each one.
Basically the Gems or Jewels task is to fend off against like, Moon Dwellers? They constantly fight the gems to kidnap them for the purpose of decoration. Of course, being gems, it’s understandable. With this, Land of the Lustrous does well to present an action packed, scenic filled, colourful, atmospheric anime for us to enjoy.
Unfortunately for Phos, her task doesn't come with badass fighting scenes, her (I know they’re genderless, so i’m just gonna refer to these as girls cuz they're more feminine than anything else) job is to write down notes for an encyclopaedia and make history. Not so fun is it. Being an easily breakable gem, Phos had it coming.
The soundtrack is quite amazing with its catchy opening and insert songs. The sfx used as well is amazing and the overall music just fits perfectly.
The animation is definitely a strong point, despite the CGI that it has. It flows nicely and the action scenes and cinematography is spot on.
I am pretty tempted to read the original source to see how it differs, but I do hear that the adaptation is pretty well made, so no complaints there.
The voice acting performance of course is very good as well, each character has an appropriate voice for those characters. It fits and it makes me feel for them more.
My enjoyment for this series is beyond the roof. To the calm, SOL feeling situations, to the action packed and serious scenes as well. Although the tone shifts could make people see this series differently, I do believe it has a more positive impact than a negative one. I enjoy each character and the different types of jewels and the use of their “hardness” rank. I love how some gems are fragile and some aren't and they use that nicely in this anime.
Overall this anime needs more attention, just because something is cgi, does not mean it can’t present a good story driven anime with good characters within a good setting. Houseki no Kuni deserves a lot more. If you have time at all, I really do recommend watching this anime, because It won't be a waste of time.

Smile. Sweet. Sister. Sadistic. Surprise. Service. We are Stile!
Blend S is already one of my favourite SOL anime of all time due to its amazing characters, beautiful art and awesome soundtrack.
The story first revolves around Maika and how she can't get a job due to her unnatural scary look. She comes across this cafe, but not just any cafe, this is a cafe out of the ordinary. Luckily for Maika, her unnatural scary look might come in handy. This cafe takes certain archetypes of characters and apply them to our main characters.
Maika is supposed to act like the Sadist in the Cafe, in
...
this case, she can easily succeed in doing so without knowing it. Our beautiful character Kaho (Yunno, the one with huge boobs) is in charge of being the Tsundere. Hoshikawa has the Imouto role, Miu with the Older Sister role, and Hideki with the idol role.
Seeing these types of characters in one single place working, you can see why I treasure this series. It's super funny and super adorable, and the opening is starting to become a meme.
The story so far isn't too plot heavy ofc since it is an SOL series. However, it does kinda focus on Maika and her life at the Cafe and how she improves her Sadist character. While she does that there seems to be a click between her and the Manager. The manager is 26 and Maika is 16. So it's not like that can't work, I mean, a ten year difference??? Idk tho actually lol. They might fit some sort of romantic situation between the two, which is A Ok for me.
Overall this series is super fun and the opening is amazing. This is recommended for anyone who enjoys workplace animes with amazing characters, fun interactions, and great comedy. You should watch this last after watching some heavy anime this fall. It would be a good way to end a nice Saturday. :)

BnHA Season 2 Review
I’ll try not to put as many spoilers as possible.
My Hero Academia has continued to impress me with its portrayal of characters, and being able to present an amazing continuation from season 1. This anime, being the usual shounen, does almost everything correctly to keep the viewer on the edge of their seats. Generating as much hype as possible.
To all fellow manga readers like myself. I can probably guess the amount of hype you may have had when the adaptation was first announced, more so season 2. The thought of having the most iconic manga chapters being animated made us have something
...
to very much look forward to. I am glad I read this manga, but at the same time, not. This is because I would’ve actually liked to see both seasons blind, and experience this show to the fullest.
To start off, let’s be real for a bit, the story of BnHa is nothing new, we’ve seen this all before. Some guy is weak or powerless and then coincidentally meets strong guy, then gets power and then bam he’s cool and stuff. It’s been done before, but BnHa is one of those series that takes this on a properly executed type of situation. It may be a bit cliche with the story and sometimes how the characters are presented like the usual rival and how they aspire to beat the MC and stuff like that. But like I said, BnHa does it right when it comes to these usual things.
Even if it is your typical shounen like I mentioned before, it is still one of the best anime to execute these factors properly and stay within the shounen genre. The amount of goosebumps I get during some of the moments in this season was too much to count.
Despite all these things, this still proves to be one of my favourite series. Boku No Hero Academia (Despite all the “cliche” things I’ve said about it) is still up there in my favourites.
BnHA 2 happens after the events of season 1. Things are starting to calm down, while new situations may rise in the future. The students take the next step into what it means to be a hero. While that may sound fun, it requires a lot of vigorous training, as well as some big problems to solve. Our characters will then learn how to deal with it and how to become stronger from it.
Something I love about BnHA is how it keeps our cast of characters in mind, and leaves almost no one out of characterization. Sure some characters might seem one dimensional to others, which I guess is somewhat agreeable to a certain extent. Some characters do feel like they’re there to just be there a fulfill a certain role. But most characters in BnHa go through some sort of growth or some sort of development, take this along with good written characters and execution, it makes up for it.
Another thing I love about this series is the ability to keep me enticed and care for each character in the show, especially the villains. While that may have been a bit lacking in the first season, season 2 comes back and makes up for it for its beautiful character development.
Some main focuses of the anime are in regards to Izuku’s development, and him figuring out the true potential of his inherited One for All. With this, he becomes more reliable and less reliant as well as takes matters in his own hands and taking action to suit what most appropriate for the situation. Whilst of course trying to fix his relationship with Bakugo.
The season kicks off with a great arc: The Sports Festival. As though tournament arcs are indeed common, My Hero Academia keeps the intensity of tournaments in mind, and adds its own twist to make it as entertaining as possible, while keeping the hype at a maximum.
It does a good job of straying from the generic form of a tournament arc, while keeping each skill set of each character in mind and making each match’s result as fair as possible even though some match ups seemed that it shouldn't have been.
Of course the results of the arc made sense. It was an arc full of action, as well as helped some characters go through some MAJOR development, making them 100x more likeable (Although those characters were likeable in the first place anyway)
The thing about this anime is how very simple yet not simple it is, it portrays beauty in the plot presented and the factors that lead to an amazing series like this consists of the elements that most of us would want to see.
I’m sure some of us manga readers were counting each week, a countdown to a specific episode that you know will very much excite anime only’s and excite you because you finally get to see it on screen, fully coloured with an amazing soundtrack and the voice actors that put their passion into each character.
After all is said and done, more arcs come into play with more ways each character can find their true strength and learn different ways to help society as a true hero. While Izuku clearly shows his strength, we mustn’t forget about the other characters (which I’m really glad wasn't left out as I’ve said before) and their goals for the future. With this, we get a general understanding about the ambitions of the other characters thus being able to feel for them once things don't go a certain way. I will tell you right now that this season is indeed more serious and more violent than the last. It has more emotional segments and more action. Sometimes it may be predictable, but the end result still remains satisfactory for the viewer to take in.
The way they presented their Villains was spot on. Guess what, the villains in this anime, are actually THREATS?! Wow, a villain who does his job. Of course villains being threats aren't that hard to achieve. But i’m at a point where I’ve seen too much villains that are better off being called hero’s then anything else. Maybe I haven’t seen enough anime, but I wasn't able to find villains that proved deadly. But i’m glad this series was able to pull it off. While Shigaraki continues to plot some evil scheme, there is the problem of a certain villain, who is very deadly, and must be stopped at all costs. I recommend watching the anime to figure out who that is, for if you watch the initial introduction, you will probably love him more than knowing who it is prior to watching the series.
There’s no need to talk much about the quality animation that Bones put into this since I have too much praise to give it, but I am beyond grateful to them for taking this adaptation to heart and showing us each manga panel in colour and in animated form. I loved every single episode of this show and it presents a fine, simple story of people who want to get stronger and taking steps forward to becoming the hero they want to be. Of course becoming one is no easy task. Things must happen whether it has a positive impact or negative. There are then challenges along the way to achieve the goal they’ve always wanted, and I love the way these characters deal with it and handle these problems. Although some characters didn't get too much shine, the amount of character development we had for most of the main characters overtakes the lack of some.
The soundtrack was also amazing, presenting emotion and epic music for just the right situations and giving the scenes more impact. Without it, it definitely wouldn't have been as memorable. I loved both OP’s and ED’s for BnHa Season 2. I love the significance behind each opening and what they meant and how each characters are portrayed within the OP. It shows gradually how much development and struggles some characters deal with, along with how they would cope with it and use it to better themselves as a person and hero.
Overall, this season was phenomenal and presented what a hero story should look like. Working hard towards it with a cost of many hardships to come. I’m really glad the adaptation for Boku no Hero Academia was put into the good hands of Bones. Every single panel + some original content was a pleasure to see on my desktop. Thank you Bones, truly. You’ve made the Spring/Summer Season for me.
Here’s to a Season 3

Open up an endless world of possible settings. A Giant hole in the middle of civilization, in which lies a gigantic hole dangerous to mankind. What could it be? How does it work? What lies within it?
Made in Abyss is one of my personal favourites of Summer 2016 due to its amazing setting, atmosphere, and world building with amazing execution along with an amazing narrative. It shows us the dangerous and more grim side of things while making it completely thought provoking.
We start off this adventure with Riko, a girl with curiosity and the need to adventure the depths of the Abyss thoroughly. With
...
no signs of fear, she heads on strong until her partner Nat gets into trouble with a creature. She does save him and with this, she meets a robotic boy named Reg. His origins at the time were mysterious and unknown to Riko. Thus their adventure as boy and girl, in search for a purpose begins.
Why do they feel the need to enter the Abyss? Why risk it all and go into a deadly place? For the search of Riko’s Mom and her whereabouts. Her curiosity and duty like feeling called her into the Abyss and Riko wanted to find the answer to it all. While they adventure and stray from what was called their home, they delve deep into deaths row. While they do this, their personality matures while they grow significantly as characters. Proceeding with caution and making the right decisions is all that matter. Because one little mistake and it may be then over for our adventurers.
Something I can appreciate about Made in Abyss is its use of colours and looking at the atmosphere within its full beauty telling us that great Storytelling isn't all they can do. While they're at it, why not insert a beautiful song while we look at some beautiful scenery? Setting the tone like that in the first episode and I knew that this series would be great.
I have read the manga before hand and seeing it brought out to life is much more satisfying. The way the voice acting is brought out, to how the creatures look, to the soundtrack. I might be praising the music too much, but I think it deserve just that much praise.
The objective here mainly is Riko and Reg in search for Riko’s mother and descending further into the Abyss, with more risks to come. The system of the Abyss is explained and how it works. Riko and Reg knows that this will be a very difficult trip. But they head in otherwise. Despite them being a lower rank (red whistle), they show bravery and proceeds.
Let me just say this to those who might not have a clue, but I suggest heading into this anime cautiously. It is by no means a kids show, so don't be fooled by the childlike artstyle. You'll find it more enjoyable and it might give you a more interesting experience.
What makes this anime for me is the atmosphere and the feeling once they go deeper and deeper. It seems ok at first, but as it progresses, the atmosphere becomes more dark and fearful along with an uncomfortable feeling. It's weird how Riko, who is only a little girl, dives into this deathly hole with little to no hesitation. Her drive is that insane. Which I find very odd in some ways. It's just not normal for a little girl to conceive all the consequences and dangers that lies ahead and just disregard those things in a sense and be on her merry way. Interesting how she's like that.
The art style and character design is not something you usually see, which gives Made in Abyss a more unique touch to it. The design will not appeal to everyone I'm sure, but I for one really appreciate how each character looks. With the Chibi looking artstyle to the very beautiful looking layers in the Abyss, the unique story, the execution, working together with the beautiful Soundtrack, Art, and animation, this anime is like ear gasms plus eye gasms. It’s very satisfactory.
As the anime progresses, so does Reg and Riko. They learn to trust each other better (although Riko looked like she liked Reg from the start with her happy go lucky attitude). They learn that the Abyss is no small thing and that they must learn that no help will come for them in times that they are in danger.
If there’s anything to complain about, it may be the fact that the narrative aspect of the show seems a bit slow. I found the character development to be ok, but overall this anime is my favourite of Summer 2017. I loved the death vibes as they went deeper.
The anime is mostly based around Reg and Riko and their adventure within the abyss. This is how you world build, this is how you make an adventure series, this is how you add violent scenes, this is how you create suspense, this is how to make someone truly cringe, this is how you execute storytelling correctly.
Made in Abyss does it all, with minor errors or flaws, it proves that little children going on a nice adventure isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
