Infinite Stratos is a very enjoyable anime. Flying through the skies with a customized bot, along with tons of action and fanservice... how could it not be enjoyable? It most certainly has a Strike Witches-esque feel to it. And its English dub in particular was absolutely stellar with consideration when it was made (it was produced before Sentai Filmworks got good). I love the regional accents Sentai used for Cecilia, Laura and Charlotte.
But there's one thing that absolutely bugged the living hell out of me. I'm sure many of you would agree. It's the fact that Chifuyu called Ichika by HIS LAST NAME. Uh,

Before I begin, I am just gonna say... AVOID THIS SHOW LIKE THE PLAGUE. That is all. I'm gonna rant how bad it is, if you'll excuse me.
Story: 0/10 Art: 7/10 Sound: 1/10 Character: 0/10 ... Enjoyment: 0/10 Overall: 0/10 This is one of the most appalling anime I've watched, next to Voices of a Distant Star and Orange Road. Even with industry elites like Michelle Ruff (Rukia), Joshua Seth (Tai) and Richard Cansino (Kenshin), whom played the roles of Kizuna, Zero and Azuma respectively, they still couldn't save the damn show. Not to mention that the directing was atrocious as well. Even the most acclaimed voice talent can't rescue a shipwreck like this, and it's not hard to figure out why. Plot execution was poor, voice acting was flat and dull, most of the characters' names look like fucking typos, and the characters themselves are extremely forgettable as well. The OST isn't exactly memorable, either. Oh god, just... no. The only redeeming quality is the art. I gave it 7/10 cuz I like the artwork. But just having well drawn charas alone isn't enough. There needs to be sizable plot to push it forward, ya know? I'm ok with fanservice shit, as that in itself is entertainment, but this sorry excuse of an anime called Candidate for Goddess? Fuck no. I'm out.

Note 1: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE DR2 GAME AND DESPAIR ARC ANIME! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE CHECKED THEM OUT!
Note 2: This review is going to be an in depth evaluation about the Dangan Ronpa 2 game AND the Despair arc anime. It will be divided into the two sections. Skip to Section 2 (Despair arc) if you're only interested in that. Note 3: This is a continuation of my previous review. DON'T READ THIS UNTIL YOU AT LEAST KNOW THE STRUCTURE OF MY DANGAN RONPA REVIEWS. https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=232992 ---------------------- Heya. It's me, Tim. If you've read my Dr1 review, you're in for another fucking ride. That's right, people. ... Dangan Ronpa 2 is PRECISELY why Dr1 doesn't have a perfect score. The sequel features a much more developed cast, coupled with several characters that have rather eccentric personalities. Again, this review will be dedicated in bashing the seiyu while praising the English voice acting to no end, much like my Dr1 review. ----------Section 1: Dangan Ronpa 2 review------------------ Story: 10/10 Dangan Ronpa 2 is the BEST DR game to date. Smarter killers make it more difficult to pinpoint the blackened in the class trials, which also explain why the average duration of each trial is now increased to 2.5 hours (as opposed to Dr1 trials, which are 1.5 hours on average)... if you know what you're doing, and given that none of the voice acting is skipped. On the contrary, if you're playing this game blind, chances are that you'll take more than 3 hours to complete a trial. Art: 10/10 Detailed in previous review. Sound: 10/10 View my Dr1 review regarding the OST. Dr2 has several new tracks combined with Dr1 tracks, and they all blend in well perfectly. Now, onto our FAVORITE SECTION of the entire review... let's thrash and diss the seiyu's performances! Japanese voice acting: 1/10 In Dangan Ronpa 2, instead of Makoto, we now have Hajime Hinata as the protagonist. Unlike his classmates, Hajime's talent was not revealed at the very beginning. As a matter of fact, Hajime does NOT have a talent, as revealed in Chapter 4 by Nagito Komaeda. Hajime has been cited many times as a "typical, ordinary and talentless" reserve course student (ie. Students that had to pay a HIGH tuition fee to attend regular school courses as opposed to the Ultimates' schoolife). Due to Hajime's characterization (and personality), I have every single reason to believe that his seiyu is seriously and motherfuckingly miscast. BIG TIME. Arguably the hugest miscast in the ENTIRE Dangan Ronpa series. Let's identify the identity of Hajime's seiyu, shall we? Her name is Minami Takayama, best known as the voice of Conan from Case Closed. Like with Megumi (oh boy, you're about to find out about her too later on), I'm going to detail EVERY SINGLE GROWN/ADOLESCENT MALE ROLE THAT SHE BUTCHERED. 1) Mikey Kudo (Digimon Fusion - Nicolas Roye in dub) 2) Dilandou Albatou (Escaflowne - Joel McDonald in Funimation dub) 3) Pit (Kid Icarus - Antony Del Rio in dub) 4) Luke (Pokemon - Billy Bob Thompson in dub) 5) Yong Hwa (Pretty Rhythm: Dear my Future - Eric Christopher Chow in Chinese dub) 6) Hao Asakura (Shaman King - Sebastian Arcelus in dub) 7) Nataku (Tsubasa - Chris Burnett in dub) 8) Hijiri Minase (Descendants of Darkness - Sam Riegel in dub) ------------ Ok, though Minami butchered less roles than Megumi, she still fucked up a couple of them, and that's no good. I'm pretty damn sure that Hajime is the worst performance out of all of them. Think about it for a sec - Hajime is supposed to represent ordinarity, plainness, normalcy and typicality. The fact that Minami was cast as Hajime is setting up a very, very bad precedent - it means that even women are deemed suitable to voice as typical, (keyword: TYPICAL; not whiners, not effeminate guys nor crossdressers) and I mean TYPICAL MALE TEENS. The aforementioned are also suited to be voiced by grown males though, given if those are male tenors. Way to fucking go, Japan. Are you trying to make male VAs lose their jobs by letting women do a way inferior job at pretending to be a male teen, and epically failing at it, above all else? LUCKILY, we have Johnny Yong Bosch (Lelouch, Ichigo and Renton, etc.) as the English voice of Hajime. Besides the three roles that I've just mentioned, he's also known as several other main characters. Look him up and watch any show he's in. You're bound to be impressed with his performances. In any case, although Hajime is talentless, his strong grasp of hope and bluntness are precisely what saved the surviving Dr2 cast from despair; they were all able to log out of the game with their in game personalities retained thanks to Hajime. Dr2 proves that you don't need talent to succeed; if you have enough hope, you too could turn into a Super Saiyan and banish despair once and for all; Johnny really nailed that aspect of Hajime, along with all his other attributes. ------------- Next on the shitlist is.... a middle aged woman that is nearly applicable for elderly welfare, she's none other than Megumi Ogata! Yes, people. You guessed right - I can't believe that she got yet another role in the Dangan Ronpa series, and butchering it even more than she did with Makoto. Megumi played as Nagito Komaeda. To be honest, she barely sounded like a guy most of the time. All I hear is a grandma-esque voice trying too hard to go low to sound male. Uggggh. Just... view my previous review if you wanna know how much I hate Megumi, and my lack of respect for this constantly miscast woman. On the other hand, Bryce Papenbrook, whom previously voiced as Makoto, pulled off the resident hope obsessed psychopath exactly how he's meant to be. Those brilliant crazy ass laughs are very, and I mean very astonishing. Bryce was also able to portray a soft spoken Nagito before the character took a psychopathic spin. Given that Nagito is a complicated character, Bryce also managed to nail Nagito's aggressive side when he found out that he's one of the Remnants of Despair. Bryce's performance as Nagito as a whole is just more than merely impressive. He completely got Nagito right for exactly what he is - a crazy, boisterous (soft spoken in facade), sarcastic and hope obsessed freak. Character: 10/10 There is a major step up in characterization in Dr2. Several characters have way more interesting personalities, notably (besides the characters I've mentioned above): -Gundam: Very hammy, eccentric and dramatic -Hiyoko: Local bitch alongside being extremely insulting; overall a trashy person -Mikan: Severe lack of self esteem, and due to being bullied too much, finally freaking snapped in Trial 3 when contracted with the Despair Disease -Ibuki: ADHD -Sonia: Royalty -Chiaki: Derpy Kyoko -Fuyuhiko: Yakuza with anger management issues -Nekomaru: SHIT! -Mahiru: Feminist -Peko: Cold assassin and JUSTICE! --- Oh boy, did I just say that more than half of the Dr2 cast is notably good? That's precisely the point, though - Dr2's cast is way more intriguing and developed than its predecessor. ------------- Enjoyment: 10/10 Nuff said. You can't go wrong with so many memorable characters. New features added to this sequel makes it so much more enjoyable as well - Logic Dive and Rebuttal Showdown are fun minigames. ------------------- Overall: 10/10 Dr2 is constantly shown to be the best Dr2 game ever known to mankind, and for a very damn good reason too. Play it yourself and you'll get what I mean. ------------------Section 2: Dangan Ronpa - Despair arc review---------------- Note: In this section, I'll also be comparing English voices in the character category. Story: Despair arc serves to answer many of the questions left unanswered in the games. It details the lives of the Dr2 cast before they were plunged into despair by Junko; they were all forced to witness real life Chiaki dying right in front of them. It also explains and elaborates how one exactly falls into despair - either through witnessing gruesome massacres or excessive brainwashing; using the target's darkest memories against them. We all know that Junko Enoshima is the mastermind behind all the events that occur in the Dangan Ronpa series, but Despair arc clarifies how exactly she goes about succeeding her goals until they were thwarted by Makoto in Dr1. Score: 10/10 Despair arc is a brilliant tie up to unanswered questions. Its occasional comedy is excellently executed as well. Art: 10/10 Need I say more? Sound: 10/10 A couple of tracks were recycled from the games, which is a good decision because the Dr3 anime as a whole is meant to be watched by Dangan Ronpa fans. Either way, the soundtrack is marvellous. Character: 7/10 Would have given it a perfect score if the Funimation stand ins were nearly as good as their game counterparts. Besides that, the lack of consistency with game precedents and English terminology are also things to be upset about. What I mean by that is the Eng dub of Despair arc using last names instead of first, and SHSL as opposed to Ultimate. Geez, I hate inconsistency among everything else. The acting is good though, I'll give Funimation's dub that. Natsumi Kuzuryu, whom is Fuyuhiko's sister is further expanded in the Despair arc. We finally find out WHY she was killed rather than just HOW she was killed. Think about it: If you repeatedly torment others and threatening to inflict harm to them, someone's bound to get pissed. In which case, Sato got pissed big time and ended Natsumi's life with a swimsuit wrapped with gravel (this was revealed in Dr2). Serves Natsumi right, to be honest - she really shouldn't have tried to threaten Mahiru, given the latter's friendship with Sato. And we all know what happened to Sato later on - Fuyuhiko murdered her in vengeance. Additionally, Mukuro also makes an appearance, and we finally get to see her in her true personality (and appearance), rather than her pretending to be Junko. In the Despair arc, Mukuro infiltrates Hope's Peak with Junko as the Ultimate Soldier. Mukuro is shown to be a very submissive twin sister, whom does exactly as Junko commands her to; she is shown to exhibit great pleasure in following Junko's orders, even going as far as to masochistically indulge in Junko's attempts in injuring or killing her. Other than that, Mukuro's behavior is what you'd expect from a model soldier - she is the no-nonsense Despair Sister whom follows Junko's demands to the letter. In any case, let's begin the voice compare, along with some differences I've noticed in the reprisals. -Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu- Game voice: Derek Stephen Prince Anime voice: Aaron Dismuke Derek is known for several roles, mostly witty characters such as Vexen (Kingdom Hearts), Uryu (Bleach) and Ken (Digimon 02). Fuyuhiko is a very foul mouthed rotten apple, and clearly, that kind of characterization is playing against type. Not that it's a problem, to be honest. Derek is a VERY good actor, and he nailed Fuyuhiko to an effing T. The constant aggression that the character commonly exhibits and desperation before Peko was sent off for execution are attributes that are constantly praised, even by those that commonly prefer subs. As a result, Aaron had VERY BIG SHOES TO FILL IN, and sad to say, he falls short. Sure, Aaron may have been a good Alphonse, but guess what? He wasn't that great of a Fuyuhiko. Aaron's portrayal wasn't nearly as aggressive as that of Derek's, and that isn't a good thing at all. Sad to say, Aaron barely did the character justice. I vote Derek as best Fuyuhiko voice. -Akane Owari- Game voice: Wendee Lee Anime voice: Morgan Garrett Akane is a brawny big chested girl who is very impulsive, and prefers to resort to violence than peacefully sorting out situations with words. Wendee nailed those aspects of Akane, along with giving her a very suiting voice. I'm kinda disappointed with Morgan's portrayal - I don't like how Akane sounded lower pitched, along with lacking the energy that could be heard in Wendee's portrayal. I mean, I know Akane isn't supposed to be a moe girl or anything, but seriously, Morgan just gave Akane an overly low voice, and I found it to be unfitting. -Teruteru Hanamura- Eng voice: Todd Haberkorn Although Todd reprised the role, he gave Teru a country accent even when he's speaking normally. As far as I'm concerned, Teru intentionally HIDES his accent to make it seem like that he's from a high class suburb. Shame on you Funimation - for not doing your homework. -Peko Pekoyama- Game voice: Janice Kawaye Anime voice: Clarine Harp Alright, no more favoring Californians this time around. This time, I'll choose the Texan Clarine. Clarine gave Peko more character (even though she's generally distant and calm) and a much more fitting deeper voice. Although I prefer Clarine's portrayal, I do have to give props to Janice for pulling off her Sparkling Justice persona - now that was simply just amazing! -Ibuki Mioda- Game voice: Julie Ann Taylor Anime voice: Brina Palencia Julie. Nuff said. Ibuki, as far as I'm concerned, is hyperactive and eccentric. Julie got those attributes down, but sadly, I'm afraid I can't quite say the same for Brina. Brina's portrayal was... bland. There just simply wasn't enough energy compared to Julie's take. -Gundam Tanaka- Game voice: Chris Tergliafera Anime voice: Scott Frerichs I choose Chris. Scott's take was around the same pitch as Chris's portrayal, but the entire composure of Gundam is his eccentricity and hamminess. I'm sorry, but Scott wasn't nearly as dramatic as Chris. Chris also had better shouts and generally gave a much more believable performance than Scott. -Usami- Game voice: Rebecca Forstadt Anime voice: Anastasia Munoz Rebecca, because her voice for Usami was much more tolerable. Usami is a majorly annoying character either way, but a more soothing voice just makes the character less intolerable, you get what I mean? Anastasia is by no means a bad actress, but her Usami voice is just so awful that I was tempted to mute my tablet whenever she spoke. Seriously, Ana's other roles are much better than this. ---------------- Enjoyment: 7/10 Should be pretty obvious by now. Flaws are listed above on what's keeping this dub from getting a perfect score. ------------------- Overall: 7/10 I would have probably given this dub a 10/10 if there weren't any inconsistencies.

Note 1: MAJOR SPOILERS! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE PLAYED DR1 OR WATCHED THE ANIME!
Note 2: This review will rate the Dangan Ronpa 1 media as a whole, which also includes the game, and not strictly just for the anime. Before I begin, let me clarify that this review is gonna: 1) Have a lot of fangasms (I am the self proclaimed Ultimate Dangan Ronpa Fanboy, so...) 2) Brutally bash the Japanese voice acting (with harsh language) while critically praising the English dub ... 3) Rate the Eng dub of both the Dr1 game and Dr1 anime ------------------------------------- Ok, let's begin. Dangan Ronpa is my shit. Practically the BEST game/anime franchise I've come across. I love how this franchise portrays the concepts of hope and despair. Story: 9/10 Absolutely fantastic. Trials are carefully planned and beautifully executed. Plot twists near the end are mindblowing. Art: 10/10 I LOVE the unique art style of Dangan Ronpa. Nuff said. Sound: 10/10 OST is more than just breathtaking. The fact that I play many of the songs of the franchise on repeat says a lot. JP voice acting: 2/10 (I'm being generous, tbh) I view the entire Dangan Ronpa franchise as one of the worst cast series of all time in Japanese (#1 worst being Dragonball). I effing hate Megumi Ogata and most of her roles; she is the voice of Makoto Naegi, the protagonist. Please note that I'm strictly a dub viewer, and it is my policy to reject Japanese ideals on what constitutes as an authentic boy voice. Megumi in particular has offended me greatly by butchering numerous post prepubescent male roles; she is #2 on my Seiyu Shitlist (#1 is Mitsuki Saiga, but given that she's not a part of Dr1, I'm not gonna delve into her). Megumi also has another role in the Dangan Ronpa franchise, but given that it's irrelevant to Dr1, I'm not gonna mention it. Examples include (practically every male character that isn't a kid, but I'll list all of 'em, anyway): 1) Ayato Naoi (Angel Beats - Greg Ayres in dub) 2) Itona Horibe (Assassination Classroom - Ricco Fajardo in dub) 3) Yukito Tsukishiro (Cardcaptors - Steve Staley in dub) 4) Shinji Ikari (Evangelion series - Spike Spencer in dub) 5) Izumi Rio (Fullmoon - Waikun Chan in Chinese dub) 6) Ricardo Gavarni (Chaika - Greg Ayres in dub) 7) Eagle Vision (Rayearth - Jerry Gelb in dub) 8) Misogi Kumagawa (Medaka Box - Leraldo Anzaldua in dub) 9) Yukimura Sanada (Samurai Deeper Kyo - Chris Kromer in dub) 10) Satoru Takishima (Special A - Clint Bickham in dub) 11) Masaya Aoyama (Tokyo Mew Mew - Scottie Ray in dub) 12) Blue Knight (Tokyo Mew Mew - Sean Schemmel in dub) 13) Deep Blue (Tokyo Mew Mew - Andrew Rannells in dub) 14) Kurama (Yu Yu Hakusho - John Burgmeier in dub) ---------------- Oh, lookie here. FOURTEEN ROLES butchered. This woman has no respect from me. The fact that pretty much all of Megumi's non-prepubescent male roles are voiced by actual males shows a lot - it shows that America actively rejects inauthentic male voices, or half assed male voices that sound like a woman trying too hard to sound like one, and would rather opt for a real male actor to give out a fully fleshed performance that truly does said male characters justice. Just for clarification: No, I'm not against the practice of females playing as male kids. Keyword: Kids. Think about it - male kids could be portrayed by females because their voices have yet to mature, and quite frankly, females could pull off a much more authentic male kid than actual grown males. Only actual male kids could top off those performances. I am, however, totally against the idea of females playing male TEENS and grown males. There are some exceptions, but Makoto isn't one of them. No siree, no dice here. Anyway, fuck Megumi's portrayal as Makoto; it's garbage. From the clips I've heard, Megumi gave very little emotion as Makoto - sounded like she was reading off of the script most of the time. Her rendition of "No, that's wrong!" (or whatever the fuck it's said in Japanese), which is the highlight catchphrase of the entire Dangan Ronpa franchise, is more than just simply disappointing. Megumi says it way too fast. Jesus Christ, slow the fuck down. On top of that, Megumi made Makoto sound like he was unenthusiastic, which is quite literally the OPPOSITE of what Makoto really is. So much for being the Ultimate Hope, am I right? Fuck that shit. Much more enthusiasm is needed to spread hope like a disease. Not that it matters anyway, the performance was gonna suck either way cuz it's a miscast. Now, on the opposite spectrum, Bryce Papenbrook (also voice of Eren Yeager) truly does Makoto justice by giving the character a more masculinely authentic voice, better acting and shouts, and is the true definition of the entire composition of Makoto's character. Bryce is also the only voice actor to reprise his role for the Funimation dub of the Dangan Ronpa anime, leaving all his LA pals behind. Bryce's rendition of "No, that's wrong!" is very awe inspring. Unlike Megumi, Bryce takes his time to enunciate all three words out instead of jamming it into a clusterfuck. I don't know what the JP counterpart of "No, that's wrong" is, but I remember it being longer and way less concise and to the point. Also, Bryce sounds MUCH MORE enthusiastic as Makoto, which is something that Megumi was severely lacking. Either way, Dangan Ronpa sucks balls in Japanese; English terminology for this franchise is like, 1000x better. On the other hand, Koki Miyata gives more than just a saddening performance as the resident trap of the franchise, Chihiro Fujisaki. Most traps are voiced by females; is there a defining characteristic of Chihiro that makes him an exception? No. He is just like any other trap. Fuck Koki's performance; it's a load of shit. Barely even sounded female, and I could tell that it was from a guy almost immediately. Given that Chihiro's actual gender is a plot device in the story, that questionable casting choice is just... no. Whatever intention the author had was fucking lost thanks to Koki. The dub voices of Chihiro for the game and anime are Dorothy Elias-Fahn (Kaoru from Kenshin) and Kara Edwards (Nymph from Heaven's Lost Property). America does not buy into Japan's perspective on what defines as an authentic trap voice, so there. Given that both Eng voices for Chihiro are female, they, of course, without a doubt, gave a more convincing and authentic performance as Chihiro. I personally think Dorothy fits Chihiro better than Kara, though. Lastly, the villain. MONOKUMA. God, I fucking hate his seiyu. What was her name again? It's Nobuyo Oyama, I believe. The voice she gave Monokuma was HORRENDOUS - didn't even remotely sound like a male. I mean, Monokuma isn't supposed to have a super manly voice and all, but jeez. That ain't gonna cut it. Brian Beacock (Takato from Digimon Tamers), the English game voice of the same character truly defines the role for what it is. Menacing, fitting voice, great laughter, on point acting, need I say more? In fact, as an aspiring voice actor, I often try my best to imitate Brian's Monokuma voice just for the shits and giggles. Well, enough about Brian. Greg Ayres (Tomoki from Heaven's Lost Property) is the voice of Monokuma in the English anime. While still more fitting than Nobuyo, I don't think he does the role more justice than Brian. And that's pretty much all the miscasts I've identified in the first game. So, let's move on to the other characters, shall we? --------------------------- Character: 9/10 Very interesting characters, but I'm afraid I cannot give a perfect score for this because... well, find out on the next review when I evaluate the charas in... welp, that's a secret. Stay tuned. In any case... Let me first clarify the strengths and weaknesses of each of the dubs before I evaluate which Eng performance is more to my liking. --Game-- Pro 1: Better voices Pro 2: First names are used as opposed to last names Con: Weaker acting --Anime-- Pro: Better acting Con: Some particular voices fall short to the LA counterparts ---------------------------------- We're now ready to evaluate each of the characters, save for those that were already evaluated above. -Sayaka Maizono- Eng game: Dorothy Elias-Fahn Eng anime: Monica Rial Monica did the role more justice than Dorothy, given that there were more lines to actually voice for in the anime than in the game. Monica's voice also fits better, too. In the game, only the trials are fully voiced. All other events merely have minimal voice acting (with only short sentences, sighs and grunts); with some exceptions, of course, but you get my point. The fact that Sayaka was the first victim doesn't help Dorothy at all. -Kyoko Kirigiri- Eng game: Erika Harlacher Eng anime: Caitlin Glass While both voice actresses gave a very suiting voice for Kyoko, Caitlin Glass wins my vote here. If both voices are equally as good, the only determinator as to which portrayal is better is evaluating the acting, of course. As I've mentioned above, the anime has better acting. Caitlin more so sounded calm and collected than reading off of the script, which was what Erika did for Kyoko more than 30% of the time. Thus Caitlin wins. -Byakuya Togami- Eng game: Jason Wishnov Eng anime: Josh Grelle Again, both VAs did a voice that fit the character. However, Josh Grelle is better than Jason IMO. Jason sounded way too bored as Byakuya; but Josh? Oh boy, he portrayed Byakuya as a highly condescending prick. The tone, his way with words, they all suggest that. And guess what? That's precisely what Byakuya is. A stuck up rich kid that does not view anyone as his equal. -Kiyotaka Ishimaru- Eng game: Sean Chiplock Eng anime: Austin Tindle Both voices fit the character, but Austin wins this round for better acting. -Celestia Ludenberg- Eng game: Marieve Herington Eng anime: Lindsay Seidel Getting sick of me voting Texans over Californians? Well, looks like your wish is about to come true, cuz Marieve fits the role to a effing T. ...actually, Marieve is Canadian, but ANYWAY! Marieve gave Celestia an old English accent to go with her gothic lolita attire. It's completely mindblowing when Celestia snaps and LOSES her accent. That sort of irritation is what makes Marieve better in the role - the acting for this particular character is so much better than Lindsay, aside from the accent. -Toko Fukawa- Eng game Toko: Amanda C. Miller Eng game Genocider: Erin Fitzgerald Eng anime: Carli Mosier While I give Carli props for voicing both the Genocider and regular Toko, the combined efforts of Amanda and Erin completely blows Carli out of the water. Both of Carli's voices do not fit the character as well as Amanda and Erin. Amanda's voice fits Toko better, and also gave the character several attributes that defines what Toko is - a constantly stuttering, easily flustered, and skeptical insecure girl. On the other hand, Erin sounded completely bonkers as the Genocider - which is precisely what she is. Erin's LAUGH in particular is impossible to top - not the seiyu, and not Carli; neither of them could do the Genocider better than Erin. -Aoi Asahina- Eng game: Cassandra Lee Morris Eng anime: Felecia Angelle Both voices fit, but I choose Felecia. -Sakura Ogami- Eng game: Jessica Gee-George Eng anime: Rachel Robinson Both voices fit and sound similar; they were going for the gruffy tough woman archetype. I choose Rachel for better acting. -Hifumi Yamada- Eng game: Lucien Dodge Eng anime: Tyson Rinehart I personally view the character as disgusting, so I'll try to keep it short. Lucien does the role better than Tyson because of better acting, and going for the intellectual nerdy voice rather than the shut in goofy nerd. -Yasuhiro Hagakure- Eng game: Kaiji Tang Eng anime: Chris Bevins Kaiji wins. His voice fits the character better, more so than the surfer dude tone with Chris. -Mondo Owada- Eng game: Keith Silverstein Eng anime: Chris Sabat I choose Keith. Chris Sabat's voice may fit Mondo, but it was a bit too low for my own liking. Keith gives off a cool sounding badass voice for Mondo, so I like it better. -Leon Kuwata- Eng game: Grant George Eng anime: Justin Cook Grant. Some of the lines he did for Leon were especially memorable, such as: "These goddamn shit for brains have got it all wrong, I'm telling you!" "Do I object...? Hell yes I object! Of course I do! I object, I object, I object! I mean, all of this is just a bunch of stupid theories! You need evidence! Where's the evidence!? Without evidence, it's all bullshit! It's bullshit and I refuse to acknowledge it!" “I refuse to acknowledge you! You're stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!!” Justin's voice, while fitting the character, is not nearly as memorable as that of Grant. I also feel like Grant's acting is more authentic than Justin, so there. -Junko Enoshima- Eng game voices: Amanda C. Miller and Erin Fitzgerald Eng anime: Jamie Marchi Jamie. Junko is a messed up bitch of despair. Having two people do all of Junko's personalities kinda loses the point of her being the epitome of despair. That, and I think Jamie had better acting to top off all her different voices for the character as well. I also think Jamie's valley girl accent for Junko when she's speaking as herself fits the role because of her status as the Ultimate Fashionista. And that's a wrap for all the characters. ----------------------------- Enjoyment: 10/10 Nuff said. I'm the Ultimate Dangan Ronpa Fanboy. No need for further elaboration. ------------------- Overall: 9/10 Dangan Ronpa is my #1 fav franchise. No series of games/anime have gotten me so hooked up before. Kazutaka Kodaka, you sure are something else. Why Dr1 does not have a perfect score will be revealed very soon...

This is primarily going to be a deliberate rant about how much I hated the Special A dub, and this is coming from someone who only watches dubs. The anime is fine by its own right, so I'm not gonna delve too deep into any elements other than the voice acting. I'm just gonna briefly rate the other elements, and that's it.
---------- Sound: 0 I have several problems with this dub. The first being Andrew Love, a voice actor that specializes in deep voices is the voice of Tadashi. Oh, hell no. There's plenty of other voice actors in the Houston area that could fit the bill. ... Like Adam/Scott Gibbs, for instance. The second is the sheer fact that Brittney Karbowski and Shelley Calene-Black are used for practically every single female extra. You should never cast two voice actresses with highly distinct voices to play as extras. It's extremely grating to hear the same voice over and over again. There's no variety, texture or taste in that at all. Thirdly, Clint Bickham is cast as Sui, Hajime AND Satoru. Multicasting is not a problem if the voice actor could differentiate their performances to make them sound distinct, but this? God no. Clint barely sounded different with these three roles; it's even worse with Sui and Satoru because they're father and son. Fourthly, going back to Brittney, not only is she practically cast as every female extra, but her performance of Chitose was absolutely HORRENDOUS! It is, quite honestly, the WORST attempt at a male kid voice performed by a female. Hell, Brittney's male roles in other dubs (Black Star in Soul Eater, for instance) are kind of bad, too. The thing is, Brittney's voice just isn't suited for male roles, kid or teen. Doesn't help that one of the male teen extras (He's one of Hajime's lackeys, if I recall correctly) was voiced by Britteny as well, and honestly? It sounds like a female trying too hard to sound like a male. If anything, it sounded like an older woman more than anything else. ----------------- Story: 7 Art: 7 Character: 7 Enjoyment: 1 Overall: 4 ------------------- Conclusion: Special A is a good anime if it had better voice acting; something it obviously doesn't have. While the acting is fine, the horrendous casting choices mentioned above makes it impossible for me to rate it higher than a 0. Special A is one of Sentai Filmworks's worst dubs. Only reason why I finished the dub is because I'd rather understand the context by ear than read subtitles. That, and I don't like the Japanese language. Either way, I won't recommend the dub to anyone that's new to the show. If you're ok with subs, it's better to just watch it subbed.

Intro: Voices of a Distant Star is probably one of the most appalling anime I've watched, next to Orange Road (which I still regard as the worst anime ever created).
Story: 2/10 Yeah, yeah, I get it. It's a love story. Seen plenty of those. Sadly, VoDS does not stand out in this regard. And for god's sake, who the HECK would use a flip phone in 2047? So much for advancements in technology. Art: 0/10 This honestly looks like a fan animation than a professionally produced anime. I'm not kidding. The frame rate is so god awful that I can't even...! Argh. ... Sound: 6/10 The ONLY redeeming quality of the show. Even then, only Cynthia Martinez (Mikako) and the Siri-esque voice for the AI system is good. Adam Colon (Nobuo) was FLAT. Could barely even hear him half the time. It's really no wonder why Cynthia is more successful in her career than Adam. IT'S CUZ THE FORMER CAN ACTUALLY ACT, DUH. Character: 3/10 Neither of the characters strike off as especially entertaining, so there's not much to say in this regard. Enjoyment: 2/10 Well, whaddaya think? It's dreadful, no doubt. If this was a series? OMFG. I would definitely fast forward it like I did with Orange Road. Overall: 2/10 The only redeeming quality of VoDS is just SOME of the voice acting, unfortunately. Would I recommend this to anyone? Probably not. I would link it to my friends to LAUGH at how atrocious it is, though.

Intro:
I'm usually down with pretty much any kind of anime, but Orange Road is the most BORING piece of garbage I've seen. I didn't drop it; I fastforwarded through the EPs after EP10 since there is literally NO development whatsoever until the final 2 EPs and the movies. An anime like Orange Road would have been ok if it only had 13 Eps, but nnnnnnnnnnooooooooooo, they just chose to torture their viewers with 40+ eps of the same thing. Additionally, unlike anime that are 2-3 times longer like Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha, it ISN'T entertaining. Long anime don't bother me at all so long as ... there's a hook to keep me reeled in. Unfortunately, Orange Road doesn't have that. It's an episodic mess and it made me almost fall asleep. ----------------------------------- Story: 0/10 As mentioned above, there is NO story development. The plot only progresses once you reach the final two EPs and the movies. That's why this should have been a 13 episode anime! --------------------------------------- Art: 3/10 The character designs are fine, but I'm really NOT a fan of its choppy animation. This probably has to do with the anime's age. I'm more so interested in animation made starting from 1990. ----------------------------------------------------- Sound: 3/10 Anything other than the voice actors' performances is HORRID. Then again, I'm not a fan of 80s music, so there you go. --------------------------------------------- Character: 2/10 The cast of Orange Road all fall into tropes I've seen before. The characters are fine, but their lack of development is precisely what's wrong with this show. Kyosuke: Indecisive teenager, much like most of the protagonists in harem anime Madoka: Tsundere. Hikaru: Affectionate clinger. --------------------------------------------- Enjoyment: 0/10 Yep. ZERO. Orange Road failed to keep me entertained, so it doesn't deserve a score any higher than 0. -------------------------------------------------- Overall: 0/10 I have seen masterpieces, so-so works, and rather bland with nothing out of the ordinary anime, but I've never watched ANYTHING quite like Orange Road. This anime, is practically the most appalling work I've come across, and I will not recommend it to anyone.
