This adaptation has been overlooked and frowned upon by many, but as someone who finished 110 ova (my fault is that i never finished other things in the series) I understand the disappointment other people feel when it comes to their designs, but let me tell you something. As someone who has also read the books - the actual original source, their appearances fit more into those categories. Not to mention most of them look the same age because they are, and there is not much change between 25-35.
Anyway, back to the story. For those who haven't seen first adaptation, you can watch it
...
without any problems. It takes it's time to introduce characters - just like the novels - unlike OVA who was made for the people who were already familiar with novels and wanted to introduce everyone as soon as possible.
In the first four episodes you can see that already first 3 chapters are adapted, and even while they don't follow word for word either, they are making a really good job at adapting it. In the end they adapted first novel very well, while still adding and changing some minor bits.
3D designs for the ships are spot on and you quickly get used to it. Battles are made even more interesting with stunning music by Sawano Hiroyuki, known for their many gorgeous instrumental works, and it fits as a good replacement for the classical music that was done in the OVA. Music is gorgeous but instead of being diverse, it feels like they used only three to four tracks in all of the series.
But, it lacks originality on ship diversity as was the fact in OVA version. There were distinguished cruisers, carriers and ships of the commanders. These are not really that much distinguished.
They are introducing characters slowly and steadily, by incorporating them in the flashbacks episodes (For example, Jessica, Jean and Alex (and Frederica) were introduced during the flashback of Yang Wen Li, and it doesn't come as big info dump.)
Once you get past the "kuroko no basket team is producing this" and calling the OVA original source and conveniently forgetting that novels are the material everything is based on, take a look around and try to enjoy this. It's not a remake, and see it for what it is - a completely new adaptation that follows novels as closely as they can.
TL;DR = for the new commers to the franchise, I recommend it.
To the old fans, consider this a new adaptation. It may not live up to the masterpiece that OVA is or it's popularity, but there is hope that this whole series if adapted whole till the end could prove to be excellent.

I have been pleasantly surprised by reading this. At first, it was because it was the work of author of Koe no Katachi, and I just came across of it by accident. But the storyline really drew me in and so I have read.
The first chapter itself is very unique and it shows the aura, the pace and what type of story it will be: filled with loss and tragedy, but also becoming human and learning how to be one. Because, you see, our main protagonist is actually a sphere that's adaptating to it's surroundings. First, it was an orb, then it became rock, then
...
it became a wolf, and finally... a human. But does it know how to act or be one? No. Without someone to teach him, he can't become human. Luckily, they come across people in their wanderings. First, it was a wolf called Johann. Now he is Fushi, taking appearance of the nameless boy whose form it took to be human.
The thing is, there are many things left unsaid. Who is actually the one who created the orb now known as Fushi? What are their enemies and what do they want? But in between, we see a lot of different cultures and tribes and human settlements - the character circumstances and their lives. Considering Fushi is immortal, he can't die.
Art is highly detailed, visually stunning and I love how the author drew Fushi's emotions as they were learning of them and going through everything so far.
This is not a beautiful story - rather, it's tragic, very very cruel and frightening. You cannot expect everyone to live happily ever after and the story itself is divided into arcs in which Fushi learns more and more - both about themselves and of what it takes to be a form with feelings and emotions.
Of course, the other characters did not disappoint either. All of them have an impact on Fushi, and all of them are strong in their own way. For the record, there are a lot of wonderful female characters that I do appreciate (considering that I absolutely despise how 90% of females act in media across the world) and these are tolerable.
Final grades:
Story: 8/10 - could use more explanations soon, but it's getting there. More and more we learn something new.
Art: 10/10 - gorgeous sceneries, beautiful and detailed artwork.
Characters: 9/10 - well developed and round up, with their own pasts and ambitions
Enjoyment: 9/10 - it isn't long and it's definitely the one that makes you wanna read more.
Overall: 9/10 - Overall, gorgeous manga, but definitely not for the faint of heart.

Story [9]
-Bantorra has very complicated story and is really serious with few funny moments. Sometimes its just hard to connect the story, but if you pay attention you will see that almost everything is properly explained. The end of the anime really pays off if you survived other arcs first.
-it is recommended that you watch it whole at once, if you can, if not, try not to make long hiatuses with this anime, cause it will be easier to remember some important stuff such as minor details that come in handy.
-As for the story itself, it has really unique ideas.
Art [8]
-The art was what
...
mostly made me to watch this. There are no chibi faces and moments and no big eyed shoujo girls with sparkles all around, thank god.
-it has pretty cool looking guys
-also cute and serious looking girls
-Animation can be weird in some moments, but in almost all scenes its well drawn and animated.
-has pretty colors and beautiful scenery as well.
Sound [8]
-didnt impress me much though both openings were ok. There is well known Ali project ofc.
-The effect sounds were amazing though :D
Characters [10]
-are the highlight of the series.
-they are various and deep
-anime provides background of the characters in arcs, and you get to know them better and their decisions :D
There are 5 main characters such as:
-Hamyuts "Hamy" Meseta-the acting director of the Armed Librarians, battle crazy "defeat me if you can" kind of a girl;
-Volken McMarney- has a strong sense of justice and kind personality ;
-Noloty Maruchie- is a straight-forward person who does not like to kill people;
-Mattalast Balory-known as a liar and one of the strongest librarians;
-Mirepoch Finder-cute but really strict person and in love over her head.
Enjoyment [10]
well better to say, it depends from person to person. In my case its 10 because i love serious stories and idea itself was pretty much awesome.
If you dont like serious stuff than it isnt for you, if you do though, i highly recommend it.
Overall [9]
I highly recommend it to people who love deep stories and characters. The only thing i do mind is that story itself IS hard to follow and you MUST pay attention to every single detail. But itself is an anime which can move you, that is to make you smile or cry, filled with lot of action and with an original idea.

[C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control is an original anime. At first i got interested in this anime because of its theme of economy, since im economist myself. It is kinda similar to the Eden of the East though because the main theme is "the money".
[Story: 6]
So, what is money? Money is something we use in our lives and basically can not live without. Now there is plenty of ways to use money, but what if you attract a demon which offers you infinite amount of money for your future?
Story so far includes a unknown man with no money gaining access to Financial
...
District, where he got engaged in a battle with Mikuni, fought with strange monsters and lost. He then committed suicide the following day. The main character of this story is Kimimaro and he works part time and tries hard to get scholarship. He of course(as expected) has no money, and then, the mysterious man Masakaki approaches him and offers him a deal to become and entrepeneur at a mysterious bank. Some time later on, he is once again approached by Masakaki, who places him in a taxi going for the Financial District and gives him limitless amounts of money. In exchange, he asks for Kimimaro’s future as collateral.
It may look interesting in the begining but later it becomes really boring :(
[Art:9]
the art is great so far. Actually i myself am not a fan of little boys and girls but i can't say they are not well drawn. Colors are well balanced and not the eye killers.
The animation for now looks really amazing and the only thing i like is awesome animation when it comes to fighting. Also, the opening and the ending have nice animation and i give one big + for them :D
There are also digital side bars whenever the contractor is talking to his asset.
Not to mention that art got somehow 3d-ish in the second episode, but i dont have anything against that ad, because it gives depth and somehow it makes difference between parallel world people[bank] and normal world people.
[Sound:6]
Opening and ending songs are really well done, and are fitting. Also i think they chose the right voice actors for the characters and they dont feel out of place.
[Character:7]
nothing is explained, except there are seemingly few characters we need to set eyes on: the main characters Kimimaro Yoga & Mashu[presumably his demon]. Also in the first episode they introduced mysterious Masakaki & the girl Kimimaro has his eyes on: Hanabi [sadly she has a boyfriend, as expected :(] but this show didnt work on characters as much as i wanted it to have.
[Enjoyment and overall:6]
i can't say im both impressed and not impressed, but like i said before it just has interesting story. Some things are left unexplained and that is a big minus.

Well, this is a must read if you completed anime and also loved it. I strongly recommend it to all fans of Angel Beats out there who are looking for more of it. But beware, this is not a sequel to anime. This is pure prequel(at least going by 11 chapters).
[Story - 8]
There aren't many particular happenings in the story. Its more like prequel to the anime as it shows how they all met in the after world. And the fact that they all still try to sabotage Kanade, and meet the God of that world.
[Art- 9]
Art is really beautiful, there are backgrounds
...
in almost every panel, but manga itself isnt chaotic, and the pages black and white colors are well balanced.
[Characters- 8]
First characters we see in it are Hinata, Oyama, Kanade & Yuri. Of course, they are crazy as always, and are still trying to make chaos with Kanade's life. There is also some more character development between Hinata and Yuri, hinting that Hinata truly loves Yuri. And there is more hints to the Hinata's past.
[Enjoyment- 9]
The story, art, and the humor itself is pure copy of anime. I am definitely enjoying reading this manga, because im still sad angel beats anime wasnt longer T_T
[Overall- 8]
like i said...read this if you wanna know more about other characters, want to know what happened before the story of anime, or if you still havent had enough dose of AB....but still, it has some cute moments and it completely has the spirit of the anime :D

I wanted to find some other mangas from Daisuke which are worth reading, and i found this one. You should give it a try if you like weird stories with interesting ideas, so i will get straight to the point.
[Story - 8]
World Embryo has story which is intriguing as many things are happening. The appearance of Kanshu(demons), jinki users and the organization they work for, and embryo from which a little girl is born, and also the main character and the message he got on his cellphone from his dead relative, who got in all of this. Everything in the story is connected deeply, but the
...
story itself has some twists which happen when you dont expect it and thats what it really makes it even more interesting.
From the begining of the manga, Riku gets a picture on his mobile from his dead sister Amane with hospital behind her. When he goes to investigate he is attacked by Kanshu, mysterious beings which are transformed from humans after they hear strange cellphone sound. Riku is then saved by his old friend Youhei and his partner Rena, and finds a strange embryo. The next day though he doesnt remember anything except for the embryo, which he starts to keep. Eventually from the embryo girl Neene is born and he starts to remember everything that happened. After a short while they are attacked again and due to the serious wound he got from kanshu, Neene saves him by turning him into a kanshu which keeps his own mind. But many other things keep happening since nothing is normal again. *telling the rest would be a spoling so read it yourself to find out*.
[Art - 9]
Daisuke Moriyama is truly gifted artist which he showed in this manga as well. Its very well detailed in both characters and the backgrounds. There are some scenes and images which really left me impressed, especially the colorings on the special pages. Characters are well drawn and they really do have the similar style of his previous and current works. He draws battle scenes good enough so you can follow what is happening, and i love the use of blood, since where it is needed he draws it. I personally love bloody manga as it makes it more real then saying " is this guy even human when he is supposed to be"?
[Character - 8]
What impressed me are the characters in the whole story, they have strong connection and personalities. Though i still gave it an 8 because their backgrounds - pasts are just hinted and its more focused on them in present.[update: finally things are becoming clear and the characters have their pasts revealed, and i must say, in interesting way]
The main character, Riku Amami, is specialized in telling lies, which makes the whole story even more interesting, because it makes him get out of bad situation easily. Though as we all know, lies can only bring harm afterwards. He learned that, hard way. Riku has deep connection with Neene, which makes him really protective over her, and wont allow anything to happen to her, which makes him ready to do anything to stay true his goal (i cant say it without spoiling so you need to find it yourself) and by doing that, obsessive. His whole character is complicated but its exactly what i loved. He is not either all goody goody, because he tends to use any means he can to protect himself and his dear people.
Neene is a mysterious girl born from embryo which looks like Riku's dead relative. Neene is not a human, as you can see hear ears for example. She calls Riku Papa and Rena Mama which is really cute. She also grows faster than any human making her more like riku's relative. But by the time she gets protective, smarter, and has a caring and funny personalities. She dislikes fights, especially when her mom and dad are fighting.
Rena is usually quiet and serious girl who tends to do her job properly, but really kind in heart. She almost never smilies but after meeting with Neene and Riku, she started to change and become a different, and more opened and friendly.
Overall the characters in this manga can just surprise you.
[Enjoyment - 9]
The whole setting of story and characters, also action scenes and everything else made this manga quite enjoyable and keeps your interest if you read it enough to make you go crazy XD.
[Overall - 9]
I just think if should be made into anime, that it would be even more better, as this manga deserves more love. And if that happens, it would surely make me and other fans of this manga happy. I still strongly recommend you to read. Enjoy!
