I don't know where to begin with Akame ga Kill. I just watched it very recently over the course of two days, and honestly it's probably one of the worst series that I've watched in recent years.
The premise sounds like the typical, dime a dozen, Fantasy series where the Empire is corrupt and people are suffering, and there's going to be a revolution. The special weapons they use in the series, Imperial Arms, are kind of neat in concept. However there are a lot of them which are majorly overpowered to the point where it's really stupid to watch. Such as a sword that can
...
literally kill anyone with so much as a scratch, or using ice powers to practically go unopposed throughout the entire series and able to take on hundreds of thousands of people with no effort at all.
As for the art style, I acknowledge that the series does have really good quality, however I think Sword Art Online is a good example that a pretty picture doesn't equal a good show.
Sound is meh, nothing that stands out or is memorable.
The characters is where I find things go down hill even further. It's the typical thing where the main character is a complete naive airhead that doesn't know what he's doing, and about all of the female cast wants his D. Then there's the title character Akame who's a cliche Kuudere, where she acts all cool and unemotional, however acts super sweet at random. The rest of the cast also consists of overused cliches, such as the pervert character, walking sex goddess characters whom wear practically nothing, as well as the gay guy who acts really weird. The thing that really annoys me about the characters and their personalities is the series isn't original at all. If you see a character personality in the series, most of them will repeat about 2-3 times for other characters, which really takes away at the originality of the series. Also the bad guys are so painfully bad to watch in this series. Practically all of them are the same as in going ape shit crazy, or mercilessly killing innocent people just to try to get shock value out of the audience to justify their death, a big problem with this is they repeat this with almost every bad guy. Not to mention the big bad guy of the series, the Minister, is an extremely cliche villain, him being completely greedy and overly fat, showing him eating like a fat pig all the time, as a lazy attempt to make the audience hate the guy, instead of making people hate him naturally.
I am not kidding when I say this is one of the worst anime series that I've watched in recent years. There is so much more I could, and would like to say however that would go into spoilers. Only thing I can say is as of episode 23, the second to last episode, my rating was two points higher; the last episode was so bad in my opinion that my ranking of it dropped two whole points.
I don't recommend this show to anyone, or at the very least I don't recommend watching it more than once cause there is nothing of value here.

One thing I would like to say before anything else, don't believe the hype.
Starting off with the story. I find this right here to be half and half. As far as the background and history shown, and the world that was created I think it's really good. I liked the idea of humanity living behind walls, drove to near extinction, finding the overall story of the world to be pretty original in anime. However, on the other side, as far as the actual, episode to episode, overall story of the season... I find it to be very lackluster. The show forces shock value down your
...
throat, showing mass death almost every episode, to the point where it seems like the makers don't know how to tell the story without throwing genocide or murders in every other episode. Aside from the forced shock value; there is barely anything worthwhile that happens in the story for the first season. Not to mention most of the season is composed of two 8+ episode arcs, which are very drawn out. I could go into much deeper reasons, but don't want to spoil anything.
The art style and sound are both pretty decent. I find the art style pretty unique, although when it comes to the sound, aside from the first opening of the series I find the remaining themes pretty generic. The first opening does pump you up and in my opinion blinds people into thinking the show is going to be "super epic".
Now for the characters... I am not kidding when I say that the main characters in this series are complete crap. Eren is definitely the most boring main character, compared to a lot of others; I hated Sword Art Online but I thought even Kirito was more interesting than Eren. All Eren does is shout and preach, like he's the center of everything but has barely anything to back that up. And aside from his titan-related trait there's nothing else to him. I find Mikasa an empty character who only lives for Eren, who makes it seem like she can't even think for herself without him there. The only thing she has going for her is bad ass action scenes with her, which delude people into not looking past that and seeing a shallow character. And then there's Armin, who is a complete pussy and useless for the first 7-8 before he slowly starts becoming useful; most of the time he's shown he's either whining or showing how incompetent he is. He does get better down the road, and out of the three characters his is probably the best.
Attack on Titan is apparently hailed as "The Best anime of 2013" and some going as far as saying "The Best Anime Ever!" When in reality, no. A lot of its' fans make it seem like that you have to fall head over heels for it, and act like if you think it's bad then you don't know what good anime is.
Not saying this isn't a bad show, but I find it majorly flawed, and wish that more people would sit down and really think about this show before they praise it like they do. In my honest, serious opinion, I really am concerned about people who claim it to be the best anime of 2013.

What can I say about Sword Art Online... The artwork in the show is amazing, and the sound is moderately decent, until you see they pretty much recycle the same soundtrack throughout the entire series.
Sure enough the art style of the series is very high quality, however everything else was terrible and predictable. The story started out on an interesting note and made you think we were going to get an interesting, action-packed story. However the story really turned out to be terrible and very predictable, and mostly composed of Kirito meeting new girls who fall madly in love with him for the smallest reasons,
...
rinse and repeat roughly four or more times. The character writing in the show was also terrible. There is no growth at all with the characters; Kirito is automatically the best player in the game, just because the story says so. He's referred to as the strongest player, but they never show anyone else fighting; only Kirito who acts like it's no big deal and is a very boring character. There are many other characters like Klein and Agil, two characters he met in game, who both have a strong introduction, but then are immediately tossed aside in preference of Kirito meeting female players who immediately fall in love with him. Almost all the female characters in the series are also very poorly written; they meet Kirito, go on a one-episode adventure with him, and fall madly in love with him and are completely useless on their own.
This series is interesting though if you just want something to watch and not think about, at all.

Darker Than Black. What originally got me into the series was many people I knew speaking about it, which finally made me want to look into the series, and I'm glad I did.
The story behind Darker than Black is based on a world where people with supernatural abilities known as Contractors exist, and how much life has changed due to their presence, organizations from around the world, ranging from the CIA to the MI-6 of Britain are competing for power, using Contractors to gain power. The story itself is interesting, and over the course of it you really grow fond of the characters, much of
...
them being memorable, even side characters ranging from a crack pot, chain-smoking detective to an twisted man who uses his blood as a weapon.
The art and sound worked well for the series; I found the art style to be very good, and overall enjoyed the series a lot.

Bleach was the anime series that really got me into anime entirely, when it first aired in America back in 2006. Before then I didn't know much about anime, although all I knew was that I liked shows with that kind of art style; I was around thirteen back then.
To me, Bleach is my gateway to anime, and will always hold a place as one of my favorites. I thought the story itself was unique and interesting, albeit the anime version is deluded a lot with fillers. However aside from them I find it a fun and neat world full of a lot of interesting
...
people and places.
As for the art style, my opinion of it changes. In the beginning of the series I thought the art style was pretty generic but by the last few canon seasons I thought the art style was amazing and the animation was really good. However as for the filler seasons I typically found the animation and story lacking.
I don't care much for the sound in Bleach. The opening and ending songs are usually alright, although for background music I find that the series repeats the same music way too much.
Now for characters, there are so many characters in the series which I do care strongly for and find really interesting and look forward to seeing more of. From the lead female character, Rukia, to a side-character like Momo, there's plenty of characters that I love strongly.
