While nothing alike in terms of background plot, both anime are soothing stories about outdoor activities, albeit one more emotionally heavy than the other. I mean, camping and fishing are very similar... right? Uh, they also have a lot of folk soundtrack and comedy, so, yeah, if you like one of these you're definitely gonna like the other.

Shelter's video was inspired by Anohana, another of A1's works, and the two animations provide a clearly melancholic world in which a young girl, stuck in time, practically lives alone.

Clannad's background side story, of the girl from the illusionary world, draws a lot of similarities with Shelter's plot, and the sort of melancholy which both scenarios provide through their storytelling and their beautiful animation feel like they're one and the same.

Atri: My Dear Moments

A feeling of melancholy and nostalgia. Follow a crippled and resign male protagonist who gave up on his dreams as his life is changed by a sudden encounter with a certain girl. Both anime were adapted from two visual novels which have received extremely high ratings, and both are sure to eventually make you, at least, want to shed a tear. Perhaps different in setting, but the same in atmosphere.

Kono Sekai wa Fukanzen Sugiru
add

Two anime which, although ultimately quite different in the way they develop their arguments, follow a similar plot: our protagonist is trapped in a fictional, medieval fantasy virtual reality world, and after meeting a certain NPC character, they embark in a journey as they try to find a way to get out. The way both anime play around with the virtual, programmed realities draws some similarity, as well as with the occasional gore, the realistic NPCs and the world which feels rather alive for a virtual one.

Oh no! The characters are all trapped in a videogame medieval fantasy world! This is such an unique plot! Following a somewhat similar plot, SAO and Kono Sekai wa Fukanzen Sugiru take the now-rather-common concept of "fully immersive virtual reality RPG" games and traps its protagonist and the rest of the characters in their respective worlds, forcing them to find a way out as they play quite literally a high-stakes game. Both anime have a lot of "gamer" lingo and have, to different extents, their characters abuse the games' systems to their advantage.

Drama! Romance! Teenagers! A protagonist who finds himself in a situation in which just about every girl around him likes him, and he's burdened by the weight of... uh... love, apparently. Really, these two anime are perfect for those who love love triangles (yes, love love, indeed) and complicated relationship dynamics.

One is an anime, the other a gaiden OVA, but they have just about the same plot, almost as if one copied the other inconspicuously. Great for suckers for plots about complicated love between two twins... if there are many plots like that!

4th wall-breaking, neuron-killing comedy for those with a far-from-refined idea of what "humor" should be. These two anime are basically what you'd get if you asked a chronic shitposter what their ideal vision of an anime is supposed to be.

Brain-rotting comedy for those with a twisted sense of humor who have lost far more neurons than the average person. Nobody would have understood this 30 years prior to these anime broadcasting, and I'm sure as hell nobody's gonna understand them 30 years from now.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, two anime about characters living in a world with real-life RPG features and monsters. While the two universes are rather different in setting (one's the real world, the other a VR game), most stuff ends up being rather similar: the enemies, the dynamics between characters, the unnecessary melodrama, the cringe shounen trope of characters yelling the name of the movement they're using during a battle... Ah, yes, the sweet smell of generic anime in the 21st century.

What do ping pong and camping have in common? Absolutely nothing! And, still, somehow, these two anime are oddly similar in the way their characters behave and interact with each other, in the way they're designed, and in the way that they'll make any person who has lost their dignity to 2D animated girls go "oh my god they're so cute!". On top of that, the protagonist of both anime is voiced by the same VA!

The second and third anime of perhaps P.A. Works' best slice of life anime, Hanasaku Iroha and Tari Tari have an extremely similar set of characters, who work together towards their goals, fight, laugh, cry and live like any other person might. Released just a season apart, Clannad and True Tears are two romance dramas based on visual novels in which the protagonist's life is practically turned around when they meet a girl by sheer chance.
