This is my first time writing a review, but I felt this was incredibly necessary due to the sheer "what the fuck" feeling I had throughout the show. I think this is one of the top 5 most uncomfortable anime I've ever watched. Sometimes, that can be a good thing, and I think the objective of this anime was to create an uncomfortable feeling in a way that makes the viewers hooked and locked into the characters. However, Scum's Wish falls completely short of doing so.
The characters all have the personalities of wet cardboard and are dense as hell. I don't think they were developed

enough to throw us into the whole mess that was the relationships in this show. Sanae Ebato and Akane Minagawa seemed just creepy and unlikeable throughout the whole show despite the fact that Sanae is supposed to be the main character's best friend and Akane literally gets a fairy tale ending at the end. The whole show revolves around the different characters' heartbreaks, but I just don't see how 15 seconds of us getting introduced to their emotional trauma leads to scenes where characters basically groom each other and molest each other. I personally just found this awkward and uncomfortable to watch, despite the fact that the whole show is supposed to revolve around these experiences as "coping mechanisms"
The story had potential, and I appreciate the attempt to portray a teenage relationship that doesn't go well but it honestly just portrays itself as "pseudo-deep". Like I said before, it's hard to understand the plot when the characters are fingering each other after we get introduced to their struggles literally 15 minutes beforehand.
The art was amazing, and I expected no less considering I heard that the same artist who drew Oshi no Ko worked on this. Unfortunately, the art style could not carry the lackluster show itself.
Overall, I give the show a 3 for a couple hard hitting moments, but otherwise this just seems like the edgiest and most over the top way to portray a rough teenage relationship.
