I seen the broly movie Yesterday. (1/24/19) in theaters.
I would like to start with, holy crap did it feel like they crapped on bardocks story-line. Freiza has this completely different look, King cold and Vegeta (the third) interactions were a little odd even. Freiza is like this tiny runt of a kid too with a whole new look that made me have some dust on the nostalgia glasses questioning what I knew. Fast forward a bit, Paragus and vegeta argue blahblah pride blah, we all know why Vegeta is such a proud bastard its obvious, nothing new. Anyway Broly gets sent away Paragus follows.
...
Freiza handles the Planet like usual, Bardock was the ONLY PERSON who tried to stop Freiza's gigantic meteor-sized blast that blew up the planet. Spoiler - He didnt go super saiyan, just literally crushed under impact, alone, no one helped out of the whole race of warriors standing on the planet with him during the eradication. Doesn't fight Freiza, nothing just decimated before the planets destroyed.
Broly/Paragus Survive, Throwback to kid raditz/vegeta. Seen Nappa with hair, neat. However all of this took about 50 minutes to get through, as if the majority of the viewership of this movie was BRAND NEW to the series....???????? Even in the theater I went to I sat through about 8 Kids movie ads and the demographic of the theater was probably 20+ Everyone was huge DBZ/S Fans. Showing up with DBZ Merch and hype as hell for the movie. So why Funimation/Toei? Why so much prequel that is like a horrible interpretation of Bardock and Freiza destroying the planet 50 minutes? That's awful.
Now I'm not gonna spoil much else, because honestly anyone that would read this review would already know all of the above. The fight scenes were cool, the unexpected SSG Vegeta that was showcased has absolutely no tell of how or when it happened, along with goku's pretty intense powerup that we dont know if it was just his normal blue, or blue 2 but it was a pretty big crazy scene gave me goosebumps. Broly fight with Goku and Vegeta lasted about 30ish minutes. Thats where my problem mostly lies. The meat of the movie wasn't about Broly's survival, or Training, or How Broly's so strong, its about completely off-topic things more or less, they could of cleaned that scene up to a 15 minute flashback, added so much more to do with the actual characters and how they came to be what/where they are now.
Meh, I still say its an 8/10 cause of the Animation/Sound and how freaking cool most of the stuff that occurs in the movie was. I just think the story was absolutely barren of what It should of been and was really hoping to see a Kaioken release in the fight cause it was always so bad ass. The CGI parts in the movie too were questionable at times, theres only one time it felt "right" and I'm a pretty neutral guy on CGI when people complain about it I'm usually defending the fact that it looked good, or didnt feel off, but there was a specific scene where it was perfect and then a lot of other scenes where it swaps for like 10-15 seconds of CGI and then back to the typical cell-shading were used to and I wasn't too keen on it.
Anyway its worth the watch, but if you're an hour late to the movie you'd pretty much just be getting to the good points of it, and barely miss much of how Broly came to be.
