its the first anime i saw, also the first i finished (all 328 of) and its pretty good.
one thing fairy tail does consistently is drive the story towards entertaining pieces, whole episodes dedicated to making jokes/ character moments work... for example: the filler episode where mirajane lies to lucy about the rumours surrounding her, the twist at the end makes for a satisfying conclusion of the premise. The episodes with the reporter Jason are nice as well.
The music is exemplary, yasuhara takahashi had made arguably the best soundtrack of that generation, its a whole vibe, along with the rest of the OST, Mystogan's theme stands

The best arc has to be the oracion seis arc as its the perfect combination of plot development without compromising on the humour, its the arc that introduces Ichiya Vandelei Kotobuki who is the true embodiment of what it means to be a MAN. His parfum magic is some next level classy shit, fuck you if you dont fw Mr.Vandelei.
The rest of the anime is pretty ok too.

Also, the tournament arc (Grand Magic Games arc) is amazing fun all the way, introduces some amazing characters, some not so nice... The arc has plays a lot with the previous happenings in the anime, and has some very clever callbacks. Unfortunately the Great Ichiya loses his fight, which is a big downer, the rest of the arc is nice.
The tartaros arc was very well executed, with no laggy points, ofcourse Erza's fight scenes were nonsensical as usual, but natsu and gray vs mard geer more than makes up for it..
