It's dumb fun and I love it for that. Probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you like chill, sort of campy things that don't bring homophobia up, you could do a lot worse.
For the sake of transparency, I have to say the main couple is modeled after a homophobic stereotype, but it's not as painfully unwatchable here as it is in other shows. (at least for my sleep-deprived brain)
...
Ok, apparently I need to add more words, so here are thoughts that really take away from the short review: (if you weren't interested in the show because of my previous sentences, this probably isn't gonna change your mind but whatever.)
Also spoilers ahead:
- The homophobic stereotype is way more unwatchable in the blonde love interest, than in the mc, because we get to know the main character and kind of realize he's a massive manchild, which distracts us from the fact that this sort of whiny smol petite feminine bitchoy is literally a homophobic stereotype. We get to laugh at him more so he becomes more like a comic relief than a lazy fetish porn character shortcut. On the other hand we don't get nearly as many moments with the love interest and the ones we get are very fun, but not enough to make him endearing and not a copy-paste character.
- I love how the first thing the producer does is pull out a gun. Fun fact: my roommates thought I had gotten hurt because of mc bitchboy's scream.
- The producer's design is also one of my favorite things, I love how nobody disrespects them because they're trans/gnc. They're just existing and threatening people with weapons and blackmail.
- Fun note: the producers in these subgenres of ""yaoi"" always have long hair. Probably something to do with gnc main characters not selling well.
- The second to last song was an absolute banger.
- The show relies on the animation as a part of the comedy and that works wonders.
