Pupa.
Where do I start?

From the first five minutes of this 40-minute-long mess, everything screams 'mediocre'. The art is mediocre, the sound is mediocre, the whole thing is just 'eh'. Unfortunately, it couldn't stop there. No, it had to go SUB-'eh'.

The concept of Pupa had some potential, but the execution was so poor that any chance of me enjoying it went right out of the window. How they thought they could get away with trying to weave a complex narrative (which I'm sure the manga had) into 40 minutes is beyond me, but they decided they were going to try and sunk time and money into ... this trash anyway. Having such a short anime leaves absolutely no time to flesh out the characters (unintentional pun about flesh), and they all turn out bland, with the air of "We never got around to finishing his character development so we just sort of left him in the awkward middle stage.". Every single plot point is rushed to no end, every scene is an exposition scene, nothing the characters do make any sense but, oh, it probably did in the manga!

Both of the MCs are complete morons and watching them is like watching someone with Multiple Personality Disorder argue with himself. All of the characters are so forgettable I can't even remember their names or faces, and I only watched this anime a week ago! I can still remember every character from Code Geass, because the narrative taught you everything about these unique characters. I could still tell you who Dragomir Gorgovitch from Harry Potter is, and he's only mentioned ONCE by one character and never seen, because the story of Harry Potter was complicated and interesting and memorable. But I have no goddamn clue who the main character from Pupa was called because he was an empty slate the writers forgot to write anything on.

Most of this anime's downfalls come from the fact that Pupa the manga was not made to be a 40-minute long series. You want to know another series about the same length? Boku no Pico. AND THIS ANIME IS WORSE THAN BOKU NO PICO BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FIT THE MEDIUM. Boku no Pico had this simple story -- there's this kid called Pico. He looks like a girl -- he isn't. There's this guy called Mokkun. He thinks Pico is a girl -- THERE, WE'RE DONE. You can explain the plot in five minutes, and that's perfect for an OVA. I'm not saying Boku no Pico is good, I'm just saying that the writers had brains enough to write a story that works in an OVA for their OVA anime. It would seem to make sense, right? It would be obvious to ANYONE, right?
NOPE.
Because somehow, Tomomi Mochizuki (the director of this trite) decided that he would adapt a story-heavy, world-building-reliant manga and cram all of the necessary exposition (which could be cleverly spread out thinly across several episodes if they were to make this, say, a 12-episode series) into 40 minutes, leaving no time for actual scenes. A scene is when something is happening, but something only happened in Pupa for five goddamn seconds, and it barely made any sense anyway.

This story is a prime example of HOW NOT TO ADAPT A MANGA, and something everyone should watch if they want to see an example of how badly you can transfer from one medium to the other. If this anime had explained the story well enough, I might give it higher scores, but as it is it's just an anime that has only one redeeming feature:

Not being as bad as Sword Art Online.

There is a lot of hate for Another. A lot of hate saying stuff like, "There's no mystery and no horror." or "It relies on cheap jumpscares.". But I think that's only the case when you look at it with horror media such as Amnesia or other horror games in mind. It may be advertised as horror but I think it more deserves the title of psychological. It does what psychological does best: the art of misdirection.

This anime is so unknown and it really needs the credit it deserves. The series is very interesting, with a captivating story and awesome character development.

I imagine the main reasons people ever look at this anime and say it sucks are that:
a) There is some shounen-ai and shoujo-ai (AKA gay and lesbian love), but it really isn't anything major. It just shows up in an episode and people kiss each other. It's not the main focus and becomes a bit of a sub-plot later on.

b) The show frequently timeskips, beginning when the main characters are 10 and then jumping a couple years to when ...

BlazBlue: Alter Memory (Anime) add

This thing sucks. It trys way too hard to faithfully turn the games into an anime but just ends up with typical, generic characters with little to no development. The music was sub-par and the anime was painfully boring, with a completely confusing story which I ended up paying no attention to and just playing on my other monitor. It's just a completely terrible anime.

There really isn't much else to say (but MAL forces me to write more) so I'll just point out the logo for this series is completely awesome. The art's pretty good too.
