THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
I don't really like harem animes but this one is a different it caught my eye and I managed to finish it.
Story
The story is told very well and is very unique in a way that I haven't seen many shows written like that until the girl looking like a boy trope became popular a few years ago but that was after I had watched it. The episodes continue and link up to each other perfectly. The episodes were usually told from the main character Haruhi's perspective. I think it would have been better to understand each episode from other peoples perspective.
...
The story was not too simple or too complex it was in the middle making it very interesting but at the same it could easily change from the middle to be simplistic or complex. It isn't predictable at all it was like you felt happy once a new episode started and then you would begin to ponder about what's going to happened next.
The pacing was okay it didn't rush in and it wasn't too slow. There were no episodes that were rushed to be finished or end really quickly and have no context at all. On top of that, there is no filler episodes at all. It was an amazing and funny romantic comedy.
The only bad thing about the story is that the animes first season ended abruptly in 2006 but luckily for us fans it seems as if they are planning on making a second season on the anime sometime this year.
Art
The art style was very good and I really like it. It's not too realistic at all. The art for this anime is a little different to what I have seen the studio animate so it is very unique. The art style fits the story very well. The animation was the same for the whole anime and it flows very well. The style and quality stayed the same for the whole anime. I really enjoy the character designs except that it is kind of cliche. (I will build on that later.)
Sound
The voice actors were very good and made me feel that it was all real if I closed my eyes and listened to them speak. Both sub and dub are really good and the voice acting is amazing. The background music is very good and I really like it. I recommend the OST as it is very good.
Characters
I can now get back to how some of the character designs are cliche. Honey's is a cliche lolita type of character designs you see in ecchi or fan services animes despite this he is very strong and very reliable to leave to fight as his family owns a string of dojo's the police train at. Kyoya has the cliche glasses character look that is supposed to be smart and responsible. This is the case in this show he is very smart and responsible as he is the vice-president and co-founder of the Ouran Host Club. They all had a bit of character development and I really enjoyed watching Tamaki act like he is Haruhi's dad. I enjoyed the twins, Hikaru and Kaoru, antics and it would make me laugh.
All the characters had forged personalities from the beginning but I still enjoyed the show as they broke out of the stereotypes easily.
My favourite character is Mori as he looks after honey and I like his silent type style. My least favourite is Kyoya as there is one scene where he says Haruhi can pay him back with her body when she was scared of the lightning it ruined the mood and was very annoying to watch. When she ran off the the chapel during lightning Hikaru comforted her and he put headphones on her so she couldn't hear the lightning. I believe that is what Kyoya should have done in stead of what he did. Tamaki comforted her as well during a storm and wasn't rude at all. (In my standards what he did was wrong and kind of rude not to mention he was practically acting like he was going to rape her.
Overall
Overall I really enjoyed this show the plot the puns and the characters.
