Haven't read the manga or the LN, but the script writing for this anime adaptation is entirely middle school grade - I know because I wasn't any better than this when I was in middle school. Absolute garbage.
So MAL wants me to write a longer review, so here's a few recommendations for other shows to watch that also aired this (Spring 2019) season:
1) Midara no Ao-chan no Benkyou ga Dekinai
2) Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san
3) Sarazanmai
4) Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin (bit of a hit or miss, this one. I loved it)
5) Kono Oto Tomare!
6) Senryuu Shoujo
...
You're welcome goddamit.
(copy-pasted because I want to be done with this review already)

First of all, I would've gladly given this one a 6, or maybe even a 7 out of 10. But I stuck to 5 because of one glaring issue - the story isn't complete, and there is no indication of it being continued either. The sequel to the manga was cancelled, along with another from the same author simultaneously not too long ago. But don't be disheartened just yet - there's more to it.
The story focuses on only two characters with steady but good development. There are a couple of side characters too, who are mostly there for comedic purposes. What I like the most
...
is the chemistry between the two main characters - it's not totally cliche, atleast in my experience. At the very least some of the jokes are actually funny, which is always a plus point in a world where lame jokes are taking over the comedy manga/anime genre. The author did try to get away with his laziness by not drawing the backgrounds/bg characters in full details (basically rough sketching it out). However, that is only one point of view, since this can also be seen as an artistic choice to give the main characters more emphasis/make them pop more. I'd like to think it was the latter, since I really don't think it was necessary to add that much detail to the background when you're trying to develop the main characters so dedicatedly. However, this style does has it's limits, and Yuki to Sumi seems to have hit that limit.
If you're looking for a short, and I mean a 1-2 hour read kind of short, look no further. Be warned though, the incompleteness of the story may bother you afterwards. As for me, I have mixed feelings for this one; I'm both happy and irritated that I read this :p

DO NOT BE MISLED BY OTHER'S EARLY NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!!
At first the show felt like it was a desperate attempt to mix up a bunch of weird ideas (death by losing your undies, anyone?), crossing it's fingers and hoping something amusing will come out of it. You really need not go too far, just watch the first three episodes and you'll be hooked already - though there are only 7 episodes in total.
The story is mostly serious, thought-provoking and heart-breaking; there is some comedy (that's actually funny) and silliness mixed in there too, but only during the light moments and not just shoved into your
...
face. Animation quality and art is pretty standard (basically not bad), and the music is just average, but those are hardly the reasons why the is show is so good. The plot is anything but cliché, and there's an interesting mix of both Chinese and Japanese voice that I've never seen before. At first I thought this was just another "Chinese anime" (please don't cringe), but in reality the Chinese voice mixed in with Japanese voice gives the show a unique identity of it's own. I have watched the whole show in one go, and I can confidently tell you it's definitely worth a watch if you don't have any other blockbuster animes pending on your list.

Don't worry, I won't be writing the whole plot here. I just want to clear a little confusion you may have after reading about the show having both Chinese and Japanese voice. The main character, the girl, is Chinese. So is her friends and family and the whole plot takes place in a small town in China. However, when the girl suddenly finds herself in a different world (not an isekai, guys) she along with everyone else is speaking Japanese for no apparent reason, unbeknownst of themselves. The Chinese voice is dominant though, but unlike most Chinese animes it's not annoying.
And about the different world - it's basically the same world, but represented in a pseudo-magical style; think limbo, but more colorful. The events that occur in that world closely tie with the events occurring in the real world, and it is implied that the world she saw was only a dream or an illusion, since she wanted to escape reality.
RATINGS:
Story - 6
Art - 7
Sound - 6
Character - 6
Enjoyment - 7
Overall - 6
Also, MAL isn't showing this but the show has finished airing already and there are 7 episodes in total, incase you missed it.
