I'm so underwhelmed by this season! I still rated it a 7, but I'd say most of that is probably due to how much I already adored the characters in the context of Season 1. This still had some cute moments that made me smile or laugh, but overall it was missing what made me fall in love with this show to begin with: the family dynamic! Yor was separate from Loid and Anya for a majority of the season, there was only a couple memorable moments with the family together or even just Anya and Loid together, and even those moments were fairly forgettable
...
in comparison to the first season.
I had such high hopes for this season but I find myself pretty disappointed, which is very unfortunate because of the potential this had. I'm honestly confused to see this get SUCH positive reception. It just felt like filler content to me. Oh well, if you liked Season 1, you'll probably enjoy this to a certain degree as well, but I doubt you'll like it even near as much.

This is probably one of the more unique animes I've seen, but not because it has anything super shocking or crazy out of the box about it. It's just because the entire feeling of the show is unlike any other I've actually seen solely because of how contradictory it is of itself, which I'll explain further.
The art is fantastic, I was shocked by just how beautiful it was from the start of each episode to the end. There's a high level of care put into the artistic details of My Happy Marriage and they clearly aren't willing to make any sacrifices in terms of quality.
...
The character designs on surface level are very nice.
The plot and the actual personalities of the characters is where this falls very flat. Our main character, Miyo, is a victim of childhood abuse from her father, step-mother, and sister. I've seen a few reviews saying Miyo has no personality other than her trauma; I actually disagree. I can see how that could be perceived, but even if that was currently the case this early into her transition into a new life, it wouldn't be a negative thing necessarily. It can take a long time to open yourself up to being who you actually are when you never felt safe to do so previously. Regardless, I still disagree, because I feel like Miyo does have her own wants, dreams, and personality. If anything, it is our male lead, Kiyoka Kudou, who I feel has no real discernable personality of his own.
The show is incredibly slow in terms of pacing, but very quickly into the show we go from Kiyoka shunning Miyo completely to seemingly being in love with her. This is what I mean by how contradictory the show is. A slow-burn romance and plot, while not for everyone, can be executed VERY well. It can give ample time for characters to grow into who they are in front of the viewers instead of being laid before them as they are and never changing. It can give time for characters to fall in love realistically because they have genuine chemistry. This is not the case for My Happy Marriage. At least not in my opinion. Miyo and Kiyoka have no chemistry whatsoever. The only reason he has to love her up to this point is the possibility that maybe he just pities her. There are some sweet scenes, but they don't feel earned in the slightest because it feels so unrealistic.
On top of that, Miyo being completely subservient to Kiyoka just gives me the ick. Going from being a servant in a family that hates you to being a servant for a man that loves you isn't as big of a glow up as this show intends you to believe.
Other characters in the show are...fine? I guess? Miyo's family are evil without any real reason to be evil in the first place. Yurie, an old woman who serves Kiyoka Kudou, is sweet and I genuinely enjoy her interactions with Miyo. Kouji loves Miyo, seemingly, but we have no reason to understand why he does or what they went through together to cause these feelings.
It might seem like I absolutely despise this show but that actually isn't the case. The voice acting is great, the art is some of the best I've seen, and there are some really nice moments in this show that shouldn't be ignored. That being said, the show is somewhat boring because it's slow without any reason to be slow in the first place.
I recommend watching it on your own if you're interested in this genre and forming your own opinion. The show isn't horrible by any means, it's just very slow, and if that works for you then all power to you!

I'm surprised by the good reviews on this show. Unfortunately, it doesn't hit the mark for me.
The comedy falls very flat in this show a majority of the time. Its more serious elements directly combat the already poor comedy instead of meshing together well and it ends up feeling very...odd. The first episode was average at best and it only went downhill from there overall. The fantasy elements of the show are just alright, not awful, but nothing very interesting that feels it adds substance to the storyline. In fact, it's likely the fantasy elements could be entirely removed and it would alter the
...
show only a miniscule amount. They aren't there for any particular reason I can remember.
The romance that was promised was just awful. The love interest, Prince Ye, spends the first few episodes beating her up (albeit not knowing it's her at the time) and then goes straight to some random infatuation with her right after officially meeting her. He consistently forces kisses onto her and ignores her struggling against him. Ye is also merely an incredibly boring character to see on screen with nothing worth mentioning about him other than his weird nonconsensual kissing.
Yunxi, the MC, faces the same issues. She's a strong main character, yes, and this is presented to us extremely early on in her random sparring match with the Prince accompanied by out-of-place roof parkour. Then, though, she consistently falls directly into trouble with apparently no way of saving herself and ends up having the whole cast try to save her. This wouldn't be so bad, especially considering it's a very common trope, if not for the fact it (once again) is in direct combat with what we were previously shown. If she's going to be some sort of fantastical silly ninja, at least let it be consistent.
Maybe I, personally, took it too seriously and that plagued my viewing experience. Nonetheless, it was a struggle to get through the episodes.

I was pleasantly surprised by this show!
The art is nothing short of gorgeous, even with the somewhat silly CGI used in a couple noticeable instances. The characters aren't anything extremely complex but they're not boring either. The main cast is easily likable and I enjoyed following their story from episode 1 to the very last.
It's an easy watch that I binged through in 2, maybe 3 sittings after the show's full release. I recommend it greatly if you're not looking for anything solemn or dark, and just want a cute and fun little show to enjoy.
My only (minor) complaint is that some
...
of the antagonists of the series are pretty surface level. Plus, they feel as though they're more annoying than adding any serious tension to the episode.
Nonetheless, it was cute and consistently kept my attention, so I definitely recommend it! As an avid shojo fan, this is a must watch. Can't wait for season 2!
