This is a compilation review from the HTWA!
"whenever i hear sayonara zetsubou sensei i instantly think ZETSUBOU SHITA and randomness! they always present probable ideas which transforms into crazy ideas in the end because of exaggeration. and it's these crazy ideas that makes SZS fun to watch. add to that an overly pessimistic teacher, an overly optimistic student and a bunch of other interesting characters and you got one fun, crazy show!" - icemachine
"he Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series are like marmite. You'll either love it or hate it. I fall under the former category, which is a definitely a good thing lol. Each character is
...
pretty interesting in their own different way, and the interactions between these characters and the nonsensensical situations they encounter is what makes it so good, in my opinion.
Sadly though, I started losing interest after Zoku sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, as the show starts to become repetitive and somewhat predictable, and also beacuse I'm the type of person who DOES demand at least some shred of a plotline. I guess it can't be helped though, there's only so much a gag manga can do in terms of plot progression.
I'd place the SZS series, as a whole, at a 9. I really think Goku SZS brought the series down overall." - xRush
"I love the characters. The randomness, not much. It's probablymost definitely one of those series I constantly had to pause every few seconds or so to keep up with the subs. Too. Much. Text. O_O And because of that I do not think it's good for them beginners. Nonetheless I find the jokes witty and humorous. Oh, and the soundtrack. The music especially the OPs and EDs of its seasons are what I like best. Perfectly suit the anime and give off a kinda creepy vibe. IIRC, my score for this is probably a 7." - Wetpantsu

A compilation review by the HTWA
"Can't really think too much of anything right now because I'm still reeling from Nujabes news...I'll try though.
Don't bother comparing it to Cowboy Bebop - it's inferior to CB. It's a nice series but nonessential. Fu is not Faye (don't even think about it) - fufufu. The ending was meh. If you try to compare it to CB; I'd say "Bang!"
No problem with beginners taking on this one. It's peopled by colorful characters and even more colorful palette. Being Manglobe, it's an eye candy. Some are saying the dubs are very good but I've only seen the subs." - TsukikageRan
"I
...
really liked Samurai champloo because it had great animation a good storyline and some really good back n forth fights which a couple of times were like oh Sh**" - Redhydoken7
"what i have to say is the ending was a let down but the fights were good i have seen better but i have seen worse out there. Mugen was my favorite because of his non normal fighting style that is probably one of the best parts his fights weren't all run in head first sword clash, sword clash back off finishing blow." - dynamo_electron
"It was a good series, good drama, good action, unique style, and characters that are well developed and lovable. You can't really go wrong watching this series." - tigerz
"I'm still a compassionate fan after so long! Mostly, because it gave me the best impression of anything animated I ever saw back then. I just loved the weirdness of the main characters (i.e. I don't know anybody's last name) and the others like the painter, detective, old fisherman...the undead people. And I love Jin...I never liked an anime character that much before. D=
Oh and I actually liked the ending, since I can't really think of anything that I wished was changed." - zewho
"some "arcs" are interesting or funny, some "arcs" are terrible (*cough mushroom cough*).
It isn't a consistant anime. It has an average main plotline and average background stories. Storytelling was above average.
However, it does convey its own style through characters and music quite effectively. (Even though those characters and that style isn't the sort i like.)
Action was good too - reasonably fluid and somewhat realistic movements.
Essential? I wouldn't exactly say that, but if you've seen a decent amount of anime, it is highly recommended for you to watch it to appreciate its unique style and to some extent the animation.
Compared to cowboy bebop... well i'm not exactly a fan of cowboy bebop, so i preferred samurai champloo over it. But they are similar. They both use a genre of music rarely used in anime and convey their own style. They're also both inconsistant in that some parts are exceedingly entertaining (well... maybe not in bebop) while other parts are like applying chloroform to yourself. Samurai Champloo's characters are probably slightly more exaggerated than those in Cowboy Bebop.
I would also say that Samurai Champloo's popularity far exceeds its quality (though not as much as bebop)." - dxthegreat
"Aww helll naaaaw. The greatness of Bebop cannot be duplicated no matter how hard one tries. This anime said exactly one thing to me "I wanna be like Bebop."
If this came before Bebop, I probably would have liked it more. Think of it like this, there is a really awesome old brother who gets laid 24/7 and has lots of money, and there's the nerdy younger brother who still lives with his parents and has no friends." - LV69_Squirtle
"i hate to criticize but when you start to compare one anime to another you just can;t enjoy it as much. i watched samurai champloo before cowboy bebop. just ,my humble opinion though" - apocalipse369
"First of all, sorry for my english. -_-'
I really enjoyed this anime. There was an entertainment ,truly sad, awesome struggle and just beautiful moments. Champloo is very colourful and rhythmic. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. But story goes the way it should.
I love "Battlecry" and "How you feel" tracks ))
Comparing to Bebop, Champloo isn't better but... You know even thinking of Spike doing me so sad. Bebop more serious, more adult I guess." - freakylem
"Samurai Champloo became one of my favourite series when I watched it. I loved the characters (especially Jin:3) and the incredible action scenes among with the great animation. Storytelling was ok what I remember.. Also I payed attention to the funny, sometimes subtle facial expressions that the characters showed, just like in Cowboy Bebop.
The thing was, I actually didn't know that Bebop was Champloo's predecessor or something until after I had watched the series (meaning Champloo). So, I didn't end up comparing the series with one another while watching Champloo, which was a good thing. ^^
In my opinion, this series is a must-see at least for those who like anime with action and samurais.. I recommend this for beginners too ;)" - chibber

A compilation review from the HTWA!
"With the anime of Baccano! i really liked it because of the characters like issac for stealing really random items which i wont say incase if someone has'nt watched it yet also he is a good character for his randomness same as his partner miria. I'd probly say this anime is for people that have started allready with anime like for moderate watchers cuse its a lil short which is sad because it holds alot of interest by the storyline and another good anime that you could follow this up after watching could be durarara!! which has started a while
...
ago and is only up to like the 9th ep" - Redhydoken7
"Why is this anime so popular and what about it do you think makes it a great anime? Or do you not even think it is a great anime? What about the characters do you like or not like? Do you think this anime should be for beginners or should they avoid it? Should it be for more experienced anime watchers instead? Is it one of those "essential" anime that everyone needs to see? Was it confusing for you? Is it one of those overrated anime? Or is it one of few the recent anime that have potential to become a classic?
I'm not all too sure why it is popular but I think it's because it's different and breaks a lot of the cliche of anime in all types of ways, in particular characters and the way it is told. I remember reading a review and someone saying that Baccano! was one of the animes which reformed all your prejudices about types of story telling. I pretty much liked all the characters, they all had their merits. I don't know why beginners shouldn't watch it, it'll give them a good idea of what potential anime can have (something that nearly got to me when I first started watching anime, as a lot of it was so cliched). I think in one way it's an essential anime to see since it's on so many people's top 5. I think personally it will become classic especially since the series Durarara!! has been a potential watch for so many after seeing Baccano! Admittedly, I have yet to meet someone who didn't like this anime. So if anyone is willing to prove me wrong I'd be interested to hear why..." - Toast-Junkie
"A large cast of characters packed full of personality
Each with their own backstory (albeit some weren't delved into deeply)
A piecing together of the story which leaves you with a brain orgasm upon the conclusion
Highly original in style and atmosphere
Fine blending of Comedy and Gore in to the story
All formulae for win
I think it's a great anime, but it's not "for beginners" and hence, it's not essential. To be enjoyed, this anime requires people to persist in watching it until the end." - dxthegreat
"I watched Baccano a few months ago and I really enjoyed it, the epic plot, the unique mixture of characters, the way the storyline mixes together from different perspectives...
Top anime, a must watch for all" - finis
"As others have mentioned, the story is amazing. The way it's assembled piece by piece is just spectacular. The characters are likeable on the whole as well. An excellent anime." - CriticalEye
"To be honest, Baccano was an anime I had left on my to-watch list for a very long time. Why? I watched th first episode and simply couldn't make any sense of what the was going on in there. But yes, it got me hooked immediately after i started, and i marathoned it in one night.
As many have said, Baccano isn't your typical anime. Its a masterpiece in how it manages to mesh together various aspects you wouldn't aspect to go together into a simple yet engaging storyline. Yet, the way its assembled piece by piece turns it into a mystery thriller of sorts, leaving you guessing till the very end. Of course, it manages to break many of the cliches in anime, with unique and fun characters than all pull you along in their own right. All this, achieved in the short span of 13 episodes. I gave it a 10, and i can count the number of animes i gave 9 on one hand. A funny little anime, yet a definite must-watch." - Pressit
"The good: Interesting story-telling, great range of characters, mind-boggling monolouges, great comedical and action
The bad: fail attempts to create suspense (esp in Eve Genoard scenes), plot holes (in the Firo scenes) that are buried within the 'time jumps'" - Vin-nii
"I think Baccano is so great because it's idea is original and humor is awesome. It's a bit disturbing at times and plainly impossible to understand until the end what makes it a surprise" - sintra
"For me Baccano! is great anime. Story are very interesting, and was told in unusual way, characters are unique, and music is just awesome ^^
And even if I though a lot during watching it how it can end, ending was still big suprise for me :)" - InezMaria
"I love the wide range of characters. The plot's meh, but the way the anime told it is was awesome XD The first episode was much more than a mayhem, and kinda discouraged me to continue it, but I was glad I did. All the blood and them immortals and Isaac and Miria, and not to mention the Rail Tracer too XD they're a bunch of badasses. It's definitely one unique--no, more than unique--animu." - Wetpantsu
"a quentin tarantino style storytelling, which made a good story even more suspenseful.great mixture of horror and comedy.many totally different characters, yet each with a developed backstory(some with more of a backstory, some with less, but it's always present).and all that in just 13 eps?i think that's enough said.it will stay on my top 5 for a long, long time..." - TTst

A compilation review from the HTWA!
"I love Kanon (2006). It has a nice blend of laughter and tears.
All the girls have their own story to tell and each of their stories have an element of drama in it. Not sure if i can say the same for Kanon (2002) cause i haven't watch it yet." - icemachine
"Wanna ask about the difference between Kanon and Kanon (2006) besides the ratings for the latest one is higher. If anyone has seen both versions, should I just watch the 2006 version because its better or just watch both because they're different stories" - shoxk
"Kanon (2006) remakes, embellishes the
...
original story, and it is the easier series to find. So, really you can kind of leave the original behind if you want." - zewho
"I think one is enough, as 2006 is the remake.
Anyway, Kanon (2006) is a masterpiece." - shadowzephyr
"As you can see in my profile, Kanon (2006) is in my Top-5.
From the line of Key series (AiR - Kanon - CLANNAD), this anime made me cry the most often. Stories of "strange girls" are touching and sad.
I liked Kanon's atmosphere of winter, because I live in cold Siberia and I really like this season :]. Wonderful soundtrack fits excellent." - Buran-kun
"Kanon is very intresting I can't say I heard the original in 1999 but I seen this remake & heard alot of it the story & directs are very time skipin wise since you seen the past of every girl & to see Yuuichi along with the choices he makes good story but the visuals are even more impressive since this is the same pro. company that did Air, CLANNAD, & Haruhi got to say if you in to Air you'll love this" - Otarocka626
"Kanon 2006 is a bittersweet anime. It has bits of everything, a great cast of characters and a mysterious plot. I loved every moment of this outstanding anime, and it is one of the very few anime that I gave a 10\ 10." - Midori-tan
"When I've watched Kanon 2002 for the first time, I fall in love with this production. The story was holding my heart tight from the beggining to the end. Only Yuuichi was looking a little bit girlish but it was a different drawing style.
In the year 2006 I saw new Kanon and it was like a thunder. When I thaught that I love this anime very much, it smashed my brain and sucked the rest of tears from my eyes making them dry.
For me Kanon 2006 is the best Kyoto Animation title. Even CLANNAD (which was great) is the second after K2006 in my "The best anime" list." - Ruhisu
"Finally an anime I can comment on too !! Kanon is just lovely. It's the kind of anime that gives you WAFF (warm and fuzzy feeling) !!
Someone mentioned that its a sad anime - I disagree. There is a some sadness, but this is not a tragedy like you may think. Kanon is a heartwarming story that finishes on a nice note. It's a spoiler if I say too much on that, but rest assured, this is a good one.
What's your opinion on the dub folks ? I watched the sub first, but I perfer the dub. (for no better reason that it's a dub. It's not too bad and I don't like reading subtitles)" - chronodekar

"I loved Love Hina because it was one of the first anime i watched.
I think that what makes it great is that it doesnt take place at school for once and even if the characters could have been improved (especially Keitaro), it remains awesome.
A special place in my heart for this one :)" - benjee
"Well, Love Hina was pretty unique for it's time.. wasn't it? I'm sure it was many people's first or one of their first Anime. It wasn't my first Anime but it was defiinitely something I watched in my earlier years of
...
enjoying Anime. Around that innocent age. :]" - kissbang
"It was pretty good i must say. An prime example of a series when the echii doesn't ruin/degrade it." - thestatement

A compilation review of the HTWA! Hope you find it handy!
"To me this was a great anime due to its plotline, its silly remeberable characters like pen pen, its great action scenes and its romance was pretty good" - Redhydoken7
"perfect example of how an ending can completely ruin a series in an instant. Watch RahXephon if you want a similar series but dont want to punch a hole through the wall at the end and regret all the time you just wasted." - shinigamidono
"i love NGE. i don't like mecha too much but i hear positive things about it. so i just have to check
...
it out. It has nice plot, awesome mecha action, and a catchy opening theme. I'm not sure if this is an appropriate beginner anime as the plotline can be a bit overwhelming." - icemachine
"shinji = emo + gay = many moments of anger." - tigerz
"I don't get why Shinji as a character gets that much hate, sure he's a whiny bitch but there's a reason for it, mostly due to the absence of her mother and his dad being a dick also, well... he is a teenager. If there's someone to project hate to it should be Gendo. Episode 25-26 doesn't exist, watch End of Evangelion instead." - saintcross
"ya i have heard that before.. but i am going to have to say no thanks. may have been good advice before i watched 25-26... but it's ruined.. done.. dont want any NGE anymore ;)
+ shinji is an emo sob that pisses me off to no end. if you tell me he gets stabbed to death in End of Evangelion, i might watch it :P" - shinigamidono
"Neon Genesis Evangelion is awesome! i loved it and it was the first anime i ever watched. So i think a beginner could watch it. I reckon anime in general is meant for older kids, since some of the the theme's and issues they deal with are pretty full on. Plus most anime have a bit of ecchi or what ever you call it. So then that leaves older children and adults left to watch NGE and they should be able to understand most of it (except epi 25/26).
If you watch "the end of evangelion" it explains visually what going on in epi 25/26. But i love the series ending, (after understanding what happens ) better. I love the way that the last two epi's go through there minds and what there thinking.
"+ shinji is an emo sob that pisses me off to no end. if you tell me he gets stabbed to death in End of Evangelion, i might watch it :P"
lol yerre i agree shinji is a bit annoying but his got a lot of issues. yet his the only character that deals with his issues.
For me NGE was good because it starts off introducing the characters and building them up to a stage where they get along and do there job and seem happy in there world. Like i expected at that stage they would end the show like they save the world and everyone would be happy and shinji and his dad would be cool and so on.
But no. Then the 13th angel (Touji) comes around and like messes everything up. From there everything went downhill for the character's and i loved that. That every one had scars from the past and issues to deal with.
NGE is so good because its like three shows in one. its a mecha. there's a element of slice of life. and the psychological in there as well.
The art work is done well. It's very watchable to this day. There are parts (backgrounds) were the age of this anime does become apparent.
the theme song is awesome.
If you didn't like one part of this show there's still plenty to watch it for, and that's why i reckon so many people like it." - ucandoit
"Easily one of my top favorite if not the best anime's Ive watched. I've seen the movie ending and I am eagerly awaiting the Rebuilds.
I do agree that ep 25-26 were indeed pretty crappy 'cause there just wasn't any way one could follow along. And while, I see the point some people will make here in saying that the ending ruined it, you should in that case watch the movie ending and re-judge it.
That being said, I do not think it would be a great introduction to anime due to it being a little overwhelming for some people." - Nihilus_
"Am I one of the only people to actually like ep 25-6? I know it doesn't round things out plotwise, but I'd say it's a crucial part of the series, since it explores the reasoning behind Instrumentality, and the arguments against it.
Yes, End of Evangelion is a "neater" finish, but it would be incomplete without the insights from ep 25-6." - CriticalEye
"One of the first anime I started with so it's not too bad for beginners.
I would say everyone needs to watch the NGE movies, not so much for death & rebirth since it's mostly a recap movie but definitely the End of Evangelion. Yeah, the last couple episodes were not true endings to the anime but at least the End of Evangelion gives somewhat a more "proper" ending.
I'm looking forward to the new rebuild movies. At first, I thought they were going to be recap of the original series with HD and better animation but I think they're adding some new stuff so it could be interesting to see where it goes.
A pretty okay series overall IMO, it's been such a long time since I've seen it but I still remember I was old enough to know what was going on and say WTF at some moments." - shoxk
"Great show spoiled by Shinji's emoness and a bullshit ending. Even so, I loved it and it somehow remains as one of my favorite shows. I'm either really that dense, or it really is that good despite its annoyances.
As a side note, the new Rebuild of Evangelion movies are a lot better and solve a lot of the issues with the series. Everyone should be pleased to know that Shinji is nowhere nearly as irritating as he is in the series." - Bonta_kun
"Lot of MECHs. Extraordinary story. Interesting characters. Awesome battles. And it's really scary, that EVA :)" - Scirm
"I like the Rebuild series - the graphics is pretty awesome, and the Angels are better drawn than in the first series
I don't compare the plot, as Hideaki-sensei clearly stated that the Rebuild is for those who haven't watched the original or haven't understood it, so I just enjoy the music and the graphics" - Origa-san
"Personally, I really liked the congratulations scene. It reminded me that the main story wasn't about robots fighting angel to save the world, it was more about the various characters having to fight their own problems." - EternalKnight

A compilation review of the HTWA! Hope you find it handy!
"1) MOE! without ecchi. Cute comedy slice-of-life with music
2) Like them all, but especially Mugi
3) It should be fine for beginners. I wouldn't say it's as essential as others but it is pretty unique." - aoikishu
"1) It's really MOE and cute, and with no ecchi, so it's a great accomplishment.
2) it's really funny, so no episode bores you.
3) It's unique, a different concept in anime
4) The music & songs are specially good. I love K-ON! Songs
5) I like characters because each one is different and it's fun to see those unique and different personalities be
...
together and see each one getting along with each other." - roymustang24
"Same as the previous posters: Awesome moe with no ecchi. I like all the characters, especially Yui and Mio, and I like how all of them are unique in their own way. It's a good anime that I feel is aimed at the current anime fanbase but also works for anime beginners." - Redfoxoffire
"I guess I should check out why it's so popular. I heard its just Lucky Star with music. I'm really getting tired of all the moe blob anime shows but I guess I'll see what this one is about. It has a pretty high rating for MAL and lots of fans I see so I'll give it a shot (in a distant future)." - shoxk
"I thought K-on was fairly average. The storyline is quite simple - four girls establish a light music club with their goal of performing at budokan. Over two years we see how they handle the club.
I don't hate moe moe shows and characters, nor do i like them.
The music ain't bad (cept for the lyrics... oh god the lyrics don't make any sense at all) and in general, if i had to pick between putting songs from this on my ipod as opposed to most other generic jpop songs, id pick songs from this anime (good thing i cant make sense of the lyrics).
The characters i thought were portrayed quite well. Their attributes and personalities were very well established. The main character seemed somewhat typical - it wasn't completely following an archetype of "4 girls, 1 overly energetic, 1 overly antisocial, 1 ball of moe, 1 rich and talented" but it still had many many traces of such in there.
For beginners, there's generally better anime to give them. To be honest, i don't think beginners will get interested in anime after watching this. I would imagine they would feel bored after a few episodes and thus harbour the thought "is this going anywhere".
This anime is by no means essential... It is popular, sure, but it doesn't really have any real charm other than being cute and its mildly enjoyable music." - dxthegreat
"Well K-ON is basically the typical example of what a moe-blob show is. By mushing some really moe characters together and a half-decent storyline, we have ourselves an anime. Although, like dxthegreat, I'm not that opposed to moe-blobs which is probably why I enjoyed it like I did. The greatest thing really, is that I KNEW that there wasn't going to be some deep and complex storyline with a million messages to pick up. It's a simple, straightforward and overall fun show and so I went into the show with this mind-set and found myself enjoying it a lot more than I would have.
Having said that I found it unbelievable that they managed to pass almost 2 years in the 13 episodes they had which already suggests that there won't be a season 2. It was another chance for Kyo-Ani to make some quick money but hey; a company has to make money to survive.
Lastly it's unique in the way that it's, like others have said, "moe with no ecchi". Slight fanservice things like beach trips and hot spring pops up about twice if I remember correctly and some cosplaying action, slight yuri themes and the ever irresistable antics of Mio are the extent of K-ON. On a final note (really) it is a beginner anime but it's only for those who want a good start to anime and some fun. Not an essential anime but yeah, something to think about." - Lystle
"Pretty much this. I probably gave it a 6 or something--can't remember--and I thought it was, say, below average. It may be good for some but I can't find what I look for in anime in it. Not a fan of slice of life, and I don't like moe either, but I'm bias towards Ritsu. Prolly because she's got this boyish attitude contrary to her overly cute companions. Too much cuteness is a letdown for me." - Wetpantsu
"It's a decent watch but it's nothing special. To be honest, KyoAni is freefalling but I guess when you have huge hits like FMP2, Clannad, Kanon, Air, and melancholy it is only natural that the only place to go is down. Doesn't really cutt it as a music anime and there are better slice of life comedies like Minami-ke so what you're left with is a half-assed attempt at bringing two winning concepts together in an effort to make an even better anime but they ended up overextending themselves and failing to achieve mastery of either domain." - tigerz
"I watched K-ON! quite some time ago, but I found to be thoroughly enjoyable. I'm not opposed to moeblobs as well. The music is truely fantastic, and it's stuff i could get into. I actually downloaded the entire lot of it, because I found it to be in such good taste. While it isn't a neccessary watch, or anything near, it truely is an amusing and cute little anime to the end. The lack of complex plot makes watching easy-going, and non-confusing. I do admit, that I especially enjoyed Mio due to her scaredy-cat/mature behavior and just some of the plain kawaii~ things she does." - Soviet_Haruhi
"Coming from the powerhouse emotional Clannad AS, K-on! was a different change of pace. K-on was not terrible. However, it was nothing special either. It was a typical, standard high school moeblob show no better than Azumanga Daioh, Hidamari Sketch or Minami-ke. I do not understand why it is so popular. Maybe it's the fact that Haruhi Season 2 flopped and KyoAni fans needed something to flock to, or maybe it was the fact that it was made by KyoAni in the first place that instantly made it one of the highest selling TV series. I question if K-on's popularity would have been the same if it was made by a different, not so known studio.
As it was a slice of life, plot is not a big factor so I tend not to rate these kind of animes based on plots. However, the characters were all typical and very average. We have Yui, who is your typical moeblob airhead, Mio, a scardey-cat tsundere, Ritsu, your standard energetic type, and Mugi, your typical rich-girl, "oblivious to commoner culture" type with random yuri-ism thrown in her character for lols. I am already sick of cliche tsunderes, and Mio in particular really annoyed the hell out of me. It also doesn't help that she is probably the most popular character in 2009. Thank-god for good hybrid tsunderes such as Horo and Senjougahara (also has kuudere and yandere elements) who still try to keep the character archtype interesting.
The music, although good of what it consisted was very insufficient. I have said this many times but animes such as Beck, NANA and Nodame Cantabile are vastly superior slice of lifes that also expand on the music element much more. I will however, give credit to K-on!'s animation with was pretty top notch and is something KyoAni is good at.
Overall, the maximum score I can give K-on is a 6/10. I actually gave it a 5/10 as I have seen too many "moeblob" shows lately and are saturated of them. Perhaps if K-on was earlier in this decade, that I may have enjoyed it more." - acejem
"Well I think this anime is great because of its action and suprisment.
I like it because mostly it entertains me very well and its characters are very expressful" - Oyashiro-chan

The first compilation review of the HTWA! Hope you find it handy!
"Haha, first to dis this anime :P. It's popular because it has hit US airwaves, other than that I don't know why it's popular. It was mostly boring for me, hated how they had to fight the same guy 4+ times to kill him, and I really hated the Lamda Driver thing, because I don't think something so unrealistic should be in this kind of mecha anime. I did like the characters, animation, and the romance however. Because I know this lamda (whatever) driver is in the next season, I'm not watching any more
...
seasons of this." - aoikishu
"Of the three installments I like Fumoffu best, followed by TSR... probably because Fumoffu hardly has any mecha in it. What makes it popular, I have no idea. But what I like in it is surely Sousuke. Gotta love him for his uh... n00bishness. IMO he's a pretty unique character, and he has good a background too. Not a fan of moe so I kinda don't like Tessa. I prefer Chidori, but sometimes she gets on my nerves too. Generic tsundere. Of all the mecha animes I've watched I prefer this the most. It's light on encyclopedic terms and I pretty much understand what's going on when they fight. The whole Whispered stuff is so-so. Also seconding what aoi said about the Lamda Driver(?). I think it's a good anime for beginners to watch. Also, never heard of any rumors regarding a third season, but my fingers are crossed xD" - Wetpantsu
"I thought it was ok, Fumoffu is definitely better than the first season, I haven't seen TSR though, I'm just not really that bothered to watch it atm. I also don't like Chidori that much, I don't really like Tsundere characters in general :/" - saintcross
"lol, tessa > chidori by a ton. Chidori is really tsundere, even more so than kugimiya rie characters and that's saying something. You really can't beat the onsen episode in fumoffu though. That was the funniest and most original onsen scene ever. It's really the standard I compare any onsen episode to but none ever live up to it." - tigerz
"I think that's why I had a problem with the show during my first watch of it. I REALLY wanted a military/mecha show & couldn't care less about the romanctic comedy aspect. I've gotten used to the combination after rewatches. But I prefer Fumoffu because it focused well on comedy & the TSR because it did an outstanding job on the military/mecha aspect.
It has one of my favorite story arcs though, & that's when he goes back to his country of origin & eventhough it was a disaster & very grim it was some of the best anime I've ever watched.
OH & yeah, TESSA RULZ!!" - DonKangolJones
"Personally, the first season was my favorite. I dropped Fumoffu because I'm not into romcom (or just plain comedy). I liked the mixture of high school life with mecha/military in the first. I prefer anime that have a mixture of different genres: romance, comedy, suspense, mecha... the first season did the best handling different aspects. I love how the first ended as well, just some sweet hanging out time fishing.
TSR was... mreh, boring. I don't know why I wasn't all that interested in it, but I wasn't. Maybe I just liked how the first season ended and seeing any more was just unnecessary.
Chidori was my favorite character. I love both Tessa and Chidori, but Chidori was definitely my favorite. I like how well she handled scary and dangerous situations even though she had no military background. The backbone that both of the girls have are what I admire." - willag
"Full Metal Panic series is one of my favorites and I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't seen it. Yeah, I said that there was a rumor about a 3rd season but I forgot where I read that so it's probably not even true.
Anyway, 1st season had a good story to it whereas the 3rd season had probably more action in it. My favorite is probably the 2nd sesason Fumoffu since it's takes the characters we all know and love and puts them into a different kind of anime. Plus, it's one of the funniest comedies I've seen. I can go back and laugh my ass off every time I watch it, it's that funny =D." - shoxk
