Puella Magi Madoka Magica is such a wonderful anime !
I loved it and it's been my favorite anime for a long time now.
So here's my first review on MAL, for PMMM.
A Puella Magi Madoka Magica Review :
The story of PMMM is really great. The development of the plot through the explanations given to us about the magical girls and witches (mostly by Kyubey) but also through the development of the characters lead us to affirm that PMMM is a very well scripted anime. Not to mention the originality of the concept of witches, the dystopian fate of the magical girls and the insert
...
of the time-travel (which was not that evident to guess imo).
As for the characters, they're all very well developed, even those who are less developed than others (like Mami), and they're all original (not the kind of characters you find in every anime) and realistic.
Homura has without any doubt the greatest character development of the anime. The way she hides her « secret » all along the anime is really well done, her determination is incredible and once we learn about her past, everything become much more clear, as for the story and for why she acts like that.
Sayaka is also an excellent character, the way she goes from a really joyful girl to a totally depressed one because of her frustration is so well scripted.
Mami, who hides her loneliness by trying to look like a real fighter.
Kyoko, who has a bad attitude after what happened to her .
Madoka, who sinks into a world totally different from her world, the world of witches : full of despair and sadness.
And finally, Kyubey, which his lack of emotions is really well done and justifies all of his actions.
Every character portrays human feelings and emotions, and how a person could react if they were to face the same fate in a realistic way, that's as well what makes PMMM such a great anime, because anime with such realistic characters who portray so well the human emotions are pretty uncommon.
And finally, to talk about the art and music of the anime.
The character design of the anime, even though it's pretty peculiar, is original and allows us to identify the characters as « young and innocent », while the world in which they live as magical girls is the total opposite. This contrast is really great.
The animation is pretty good and the studio Shaft's unique way of animating add originality to it. The animation of the witch's labyrinths is really original, once again it makes an interesting contrast with the magical girls.
The music is wonderful, every PMMM OST is excellent and describe each scene perfectly. It's one of the anime with the greatest OST ever. The opening and ending are really great too, the contrast between the opening, which is very cute and pure, and the ending, which is pretty dark, is very nice.
In short, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an excellent anime, one of the greatest to ever exist.
Long live PMMM and Homura !
