Both have a trapped in a game feel to them. However both focus more on the life in the game. While How to Pick Up Girls is not clearely a trapped in a game anime, it sure feels like one. Overlord is a trapped in a game anime. Where both have common ground is that they both accept the world they are in as is and make the most of it and don't treated it like a game.

Bizarre over the top characters. Vibrant and almost surreal art styles. - Kill la Kill is a mature Anime trying really hard to be cartoony. - Panty & Stocking is a mature cartoon trying really hard to be .... Anime-y? Both convey their respective stories in semi episodic fashion. P&S being more like western shorts, while KlK feels more like weekly serials of old. Clearly both are parodying western and eastern animation stereotypes respectively, but doing so in a respectful and amusing fashion. (Just my opinion though.)

Both are a bit over the top a times. Both have a slice of life element that is more filler and padding than relevance to the central plot. Both appear to have a magical girl(s) aspect. Both are much darker than they initially appear. Both have some rather abstract, surreal animations in some scenes.

Overall I would say both shows have a similar "feel" to them. Both have interesting and over the top art styles. Both have strong male and female leads. Both have some interesting and unique ideas (relatively speaking.) Soul Eater is clearly the superior of the two, but Dreameater Merry does have potential to be something more if developed a bit more.

- Similar animation styles. Very dark, desolate and foreboding, each in their own way. - Strong "female" leads. - Both have deeper undertones and use a ton of subtle (and not so subtle) symbolism. (GITS more political, and Proxy more theological.) While I would like to praise both, I did feel Proxy had far too much filler and drawn out exposition. But still, both shows look great with some nice animation.

Both are harem comedies centred around supernatural girls. Both have excess fan service, ITAZ? focusing more on cleavage and R+V focusing more on panty shots. Fan service aside, both shows have some really endearing female leads that are surprisingly well developed (narratively speaking, but also ........) For some light-hearted humor with a supernatural touch, I recommend both shows.

Both shows deal with a freelance, rag-tag group of interesting characters. While on the surface both shows look very different interms of animation and story telling, they do have a similar "feel" to them ("feel" being the most appropriate word I can think of to describe what I mean.) Bebop has a wider array of developed characters and a more upbeat atmosphere. Lagoon however is darker, more mature, has a far deeper overall story arc and far more adrenalin fuelled action. (This is just my opinion.)

- Generously proportioned women - Fighting - Clothes coming off ........ Oh, and there is a story too. Fan service aside, both shows also try to have a some-what interesting plot (for what the shows are, gotta give 'em a bit of credit for trying.)

Both are (arguably) the best anime adaptations of the video games they represent. Both have some top tier fight scenes. Both focus on only a few of the games' characters, with only small or brief cameo appearance by other known characters. Regardless, if you are a fan of either franchise, then these are must watch titles. Side Note: Try to avoid the recently re-released SF2 (Blu Ray edition) it's been horribly re-edited. Stick with the original DVD or VHS versions.

On the surface the shows look completely different, but both shows give off a simlar atmosphere. Dark and forboding, holding back on the true plots for as long as possible. Both shows also have rather "graphic" endings, leaving you questioning the true nature of evil.

Both shows deal with characters being forced play by video game rules. Sword Art online is mostly set in a virtual world. Btooom is mostly set in a real world environment. Real or not, in both shows, when you die in the game, you die for real. (This is just my opinion.)

Both shows have strong focus on comedy and parody their repective genres very well. Both shows display "unique" fighting styles that are both fun and funny. Is This A Zombie is heavy on fanservice, which is at the core of most of its humor. Baka and Test humor is very cheesy and childish. Regardless, both shows are hilarious.
