Lucky Star is a Comedy Slice of Life anime which follows a small group of 17 years old school-girls in their last year of high-school. The show consists of 24 episodes and has no ongoing story-line. Episodes are mostly divided into 3 parts, which are vaguely connected.
Story: The plot mainly portraits the daily adventures of the 4 protagonists in a comedic, lighthearted way. We follow them threw their last year of high-school, where they encounter 'typical' teenage girls problems, like which side of a chocolate cornet bread is the top and which the bottom :D
Here and there the show throws in some drama elements by
...
picking up topics like first love, frienship or growing up but always resolves them in a absurd or funny way, so the mood never becomes too serious.
Characters: Lucky Star has a GREAT cast consisting of the 4 main characters (Konata, Tsukasa, Kagams and Miyuki) and several side characters.
Konata Izumi: Konata is a hardcore otaku gamer girl who hates to do schoolwork and much rather likes to spend the whole night infront of her computer, playing mmorpgs or reading Mangas, although when it comes to finishing her schoolwork or learning for a test, she is great at pulling allnighters and she almost always gets acceptable results in school.
Tsukasa Hiiragi: Tsukasa never fails to entertain the audience with her lighthearted and naive nature. She is very clumsy and often apears to be more like a child than a highschooler, her biggest weakness though is mostlikely school. She is bad at basicly any subject. Her biggest strengths are housework and cooking and it is her biggest dream to be a good wife and mother some day.
Kagami Hiiragi: Kagami is Tsukasas Twin sister. In contrast to her sister, Kagami is very good at school and sport and has a very competetive mindset. Despite being so different, the two twin sisters get along very well and rely on each other alot of the times.
Miyuki Takara: Miyuki is the smartest girl in the class. She has by far the least screentime since she often goes home instantly after school to study, when Konata and the others still hang out together and have fun.
Animations: The character design is superb, the characters are perfectly cute eye-candy! The artstyle is very minimalistic and oftentimes the backgrounds have very little to no details. I guess most people won't like this kind of minimalistic style, but for me it wasnt much of a problem at all.
Luckily the animations are very fluent, so no negative point there.
Soundtrack: The Luckystar opening must be one of the coolest in anime-history. It is in almost all my lists on my Ipod and it never gets boring. The melody is catchy and if your not carefull your gonna be humming the melody all day long befor you even notice :P
Conclusion: I would DEFINATLY not recommend this show for everyone!! If you are looking for a thrilling story and Shaya-Malan-style twists, your gona get REALY bored and frustraded with this show realy fast. To test if you like Lucky Star, just watch the opening scene, because it basicly sets the ton for the rest of the show. I pesonally love this show. After having seen over 200 different Anime from all genres, it still is on top of my list!!! The reason for this is simple: Lucky Star is the only show i have seen (so far) where i have NOTHING to criticise. NOT the great story or animations or smart plottwists makes this my favorit Anime , but the absence of flaws. I personaly enjoyed EVERY second of this masterpiece and i wouldnt wanna miss this experience...so GO watch it!!!!
