Two strong-willed, brash characters (Suzumiya Haruhi and Aki Tomoya) manage to find themselves the leader of a devout group of friends who will fulfill their personal goals, despite them being unreasonably difficult to deal with. The entire story revolves around these two characters, rather than them being a part of a bigger story. A small difference between the two is that Tomoya is the "main" character while Haruhi is somewhat of a deuteragonist in her own story.
