All stories share a similar formula, relatable characters with good development, a clear understanding of the conflict the characters are against, and the end goal. This anime has a very straightforward plot and starts off strong, but over time loses that momentum and falls apart, which eventually leads to a resolve that feels cliche and lazy.
The characters in this story are well written. Each one has their own outlook that relates back to what the main character is going through. They also feel, oddly enough, real, even though they can be overdramatic. Nothing they do feels unrealistic or out of pocket for who they are.
...
They're all enjoyable and of course, the complex love interests are a well-added spice.
The plot in this story is strong, there are so many ways you could handle the conflict and it explores many different variations that felt realistic. Every few episodes a new issue arises that the main character works with and adapts to. It keeps you on your feet, but over time, that energy begins to feel chaotic and loses its grasp. Some could say this is intentional so the watcher has a sense of the chaos the main character is going through, but it doesn't feel genuine, and because of that, you lose that sense of dread, and what the story eventually builds up too, completely falls apart.
The biggest struggle I have with this story is how it puts important plot points between episodes. I understand you want to keep your audience on the edge of their seat with a cliff hanger, but introducing a major plot twist at the end of an episode, and then solving it in like 3 minutes at the beginning of the next is frustrating. It creates this confusion between what is canon and what's just fan service.
I wanted to love this show, but when you invest your time into a story that ends up falling flat and leaving you dissatisfied, you can't help but be angry.

I remember watching the first episode of this anime months ago and not being able to finish it, simply because I thought the art style was a bit odd and personally I don't really connect with classical music.
Boy oh boy was I wrong.
This show single-handedly changed how I perceive classical works from Chopin, Mozart and just classic piano in general. I'm someone who listens to Hybrid-trap, Electro house, and Vapor twitch, and let me tell you, when I listened to Chopin's Ballad No.1 in G Minor, OP. 23, I cried. I cried like a little bitch. Both because I had developed a connection
...
through the song to the beautiful story this anime provided, but I also understood the emotions the song gave. The energy, the struggle, the changes in tone to express such deep emotion, it was all there.
The story still lingers with me, and not many shows do that. You finish this anime feeling torn apart but yet, the resolve is there. The character development in this show is so well done. Each episode is concrete and serves the story. The art style, although strange, ends up coming together so well to express the emotions of the pieces he plays. I'm glad I didn't give up on it based on the first episode.
It just goes back to the classic saying, never judge a book by its cover.

This show is the reason I'm depressed, but that's not a bad thing.
I always try to recommend this show to my friends because it's the perfect anime. Total waifu babe, smart dude with a bunch of cool friends, they're in school or something so there's that, big robots and there's a dope scientist dude who knows whats good.
To be honest, I watched this show months ago and you wanna know what stands out the most? The ending.
--------------- SPOILERS AHEAD: ------------------------------------------------
This anime has the single best anime ending I have ever watched. No cliffhangers, no setup for a second season, a simple yet effective "the end"
Watching

all the characters you had spent so long with, growing up and starting families after re-populating the earth hits me a different way. It's like watching your kid grow up right in front of you. I also love how our two main characters, Zero-two and Hiro become one. It's all perfect and it destroys my heart every single fucking time. I want it to continue, I want then to keep falling in love, I'm thinking all these things and the final shot is them finding their re-incarnated selves and reliving that love all over again. It's fucking perfect.
Whenever I feel like crying, I just watch the final episode and it never fails me.
Beautiful fucking anime.

This show destroyed me. I've never watched something before that made me want to fall in love and be a father and then completely tear that glimmer of a reality apart. Whoever wrote this show has seriously gone through some trauma and I feel like this show is how they coped with it.
I live day to day with the trauma of having watched this show, experiencing the emotions all at once when I suddenly remember a snippet of this show while driving. I've almost crashed twice while driving when I suddenly replayed what happens at the end of this show in my head.
BUT, It's
...
a good story and show. The characters are relatable, the comedy is subtle but appropriate, the wholesome moments are there to keep you sane and overall you come to fall in love with the characters and their stories.
If you want to have your heart ripped out of your chest and live with that pain popping up spontaneously throughout your life, watch it. If you also wanna watch a cute love story about some recently graduated high-schoolers, watch it. It's good.
