What was genuinely a promising show, centered around the heartfelt premise of reviving the main character's late grandmother's dreams by restoring her beloved café, offered an uplifting experience. How these random five women are all connected to that legacy was interesting and seeing the struggle from everyone to make it work with one another and for the café had a good foundation for the show's premise. It felt like we were getting another great Quintessential Quintuplets type of show but with a more grown up cast trying to run a café instead of a focus on tutoring and school.
Then this second season happened. All those
...
great things have been mostly forgotten and replaced with five women's lust surrounded by a complete lack of purpose beyond getting lucky. This isn't the manga, this is an adaptation for TV, meaning the overly raunchy nature should be secondary, not the focus. Episodes now gravitate towards the manga's ecchi instead of trying to make a more thoughtful show. This season even doubled the women to 10 to make it pure chaos. It feels like a hacksaw going back and forth between lewd and a snippet of a promising story within each episode.
With the café mostly running smoothly, it seems like the show lost its potential to be more than what the manga presents. Bummer as I loved season one's potential. It's still fine for what it is, but it also doesn't go above and beyond that either.

Like a really chilled out version of Jujutsu Kaisen on a lower budget, focused more on a single character's purpose and socially awkward humor.
The premise is pretty simple. The main character Hyouma, at a young age witnesses his two older siblings die in battle with an evil spirit. He spends his youth training and sealing spirits (sending spirits back to the afterlife) in order to get revenge on the entity that killed his family. With such a hard nosed focus on this life goal, his grandfather sends him away to experience the good side of his narrow-minded viewpoint of all of them being evil.
The show
...
balances between being a humorous house full of differing personalities and action. The show's main humor comes from the main character growing up isolated and sheltered away from social norms, is clueless to this and brutally honest and overly transparent. He's so steadfast in his goal of revenge, is often oblivious to common courtesies and feelings of those around him. It makes for great entertainment throughout the show, and watching his growth and the way he learns to adapt is a nice journey to follow.
It won't necessarily blow you away visually or narratively, but it holds its own ground as a subtly funny and action driven show. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode, and found often at times that side characters were some of the gems of the show as the main two can be bland and a bit too one-note at times. The way Hyouma is clueless about romance is also a key note throughout the show that is enjoyable without falling into raunchy territory that most anime tend to do. There isn't a ton of depth, but sometimes it's nice to have a show where everything is straightforward and not an overly convoluted web of story.
Overall I would recommend if a toned down and chill action-spirit hunter comedy interests you.

If you're a fan of the original Trigun, stay away. This "re-imagining" of Trigun misses the mark on so many levels, but if you haven't seen the original, well it's still mediocre at best (so far up to ep 5).
The enormous issue I have with this rendition of Trigun is that it doesn't get it. They clearly wanted to stay away from the original as much as possible and in doing so completely miss the mark on the main character, Vash. In the original he's a goofy, womanizing, ace gunsman. Thing is, he uses his humor and goofiness as a coping mechanism for his very
...
dark and troubled past. The reboot? Doesn't get this at all and Vash is just a sad, lame duck character who is completely unappealing to the audience. There's no engagement, and because the supporting characters in the reboot are also just as flat and miserable, there's nothing to hold onto. At least in the original if you don't like Vash that much as a character, there's still a ton of unique and interesting side characters varying throughout the show to maintain other avenues of interest.
As a huge fan of the original, seeing them change this into all CG with a complete redesign was disappointing, especially since Trigun: Badlands Rumble came out many years after the original series and was still able to do a more modern, visually awesome side story with the same visual aesthetic. The issue isn't even the quality of the CG, it's that it's so dull and lifeless, and the character animations are rigid and inexpressive. It's a screen of mud. Even in the original, it used muted colors and sandy tones but had elements of being bright and bold, sunny and feeling the heat of the arid deserts and world around them.
Even with all that said, they changed the story to start off with what was a huge reveal 2/3s of the way into the original. They've chosen to make the story dark and miserable from the start. Now it feels hopeless that we'll even see things that made the original so special, like the comical and goofy side of Vash, ever in this series. It feels like they just didn't get what made the original so amazing, and try to be so different that it's just not very good and has nothing going for it. I do hope I'm wrong, as there's plenty more episodes to go and turn this around, but even just watching the first episode of the original gets you hooked. Three episodes of this and I'm searching for scraps of positivity.

Wow, the amount of negativity in the reviews is downright sad. This show is clearly misunderstood by a ton of viewers who have watched 2 or 3 episodes and bailed.
The show has a slow build. It's slice of life. This isn't a show to shove action down your throat every 2 seconds. It's character driven. This time the two main characters are together from the start, and not just that, the female takes more of the "male" role in being confident, taking action, great at sports, etc. while the guy, Itsuki is basically timid, shy, cursed with bad luck wherever he goes. The point being
...
they compliment each other. They grow together. No, in 2 episodes you will never see a character arc. It takes time, and by episode 5 and 6 you'll start to see how they grow in their own ways but also need each other.
This goes much deeper than a surface level romance, and the story doesn't have some main typical arc, it's about their journey together, and the places and destinations aren't as prominent and important to the story line. The focus is their growth as people, as students and individuals with different struggles. They learn that their struggles aren't only on themselves, but they grow and find out that they can rely on each other.
It's better than what others are saying. Give it a try, and give it time. Not every show ever is going to hook you instantly, but the opening and ending songs are pretty great as well.
