It started off so good, first 130 chapters were just perfection. I was staying up till 8 in the morning and losing sleep to read this bc I just couldn't stop. It starts off as a thrilling battle manga with romance. Top tier fights (better than berserk), really good romance (although it is rare). Also, the characters were really top notch. I found buggy the clown hilarious and relatable, the MC was badass, his enemies were really intimidating as well, ect ect.

And then form chapter 130ish-170 there is this really long flashback, which is just complete trash. All you really need to know about ... this man (the one who the flashback is for) is that he is deaf and likes swords which you find out in the first few chapters. The rest is just pointless elaboration on irrelevant characters that don't matter.

And then it gets better for a little bit but then the author mostly removes the battles and also completely removes the romance. Instead, it just becomes a million speeches about the Shinto religion which is really weird. I know that the manga is based off history but at the end of the day the author can choose to do whatever he wants. I can't believe he would pass up the opportunity to have any amount of romance after the big fight and also have the MC hunted by the government while at the peak of his skill (while also injured). Instead it assures us that he will be ok :), just to have someone try to kill him later anyway, why? Just show the government swordsman hunting him down that would be way cooler.

It is way cooler to have an injured MC battle back from a career ending injury and see his journey through painstaking rehabilitation as he refuses to give up then just see him have no future and give up. Hajime no Ippo's ending must have taken inspiration from this manga bc both were trash and left a lot of untapped potential. Why bother to world build if you don't even use the characters bc your MC retires early? In Reverend Insanity, every character is used to their fullest and you never know what crazy shit the MC is going to do next. This manga was basically like that at the start but it really fell off a cliff.

I might be biased bc I couldn't care less about history or being accurate but honestly, nobody does. Nobody was reading this manga to learn about history, otherwise they would just read wikipedia instead.

The first 5 minutes of the first episode are so important, they are what determines if people watch the show or drop it. And there is one moment in the first episode (2:50) where it sort of freezes on this dudes face and it looks horrible. It made me want to throw up. ok other anime have slow/boring first episodes like d-gray man, gintama, steins gate, princess Mononoke ect. but I have never been straight up disgusted by a first episode until I watched this. I can guarantee 99% of the people who watched this dropped it at the 3 minute mark bc of that ... 1 decision.

And the rest of the anime has way better art, great animation (these matches were hype even though I was disappointed by how short the final match was) and looks way better. But it doesn't matter bc the first episode had terrible looking art and everyone dropped it. One punch man would never have been popular if the art was trash in episode 1, even if the rest of the anime was the same. The animation in this anime wasn't quite as good as One Punch Man (let's be honest, no show is) but it is pretty close. It feels like the entire episode is sakuga, it's sort of amazing. But it doesn't matter. First 5 minutes of the first episode, if you mess that up the rest of your anime is irrelevant.

I don't understand why anyone likes this anime. I watched the whole thing and I can barely think of anything that happened. Its just they went to a cafe once, there were some concerts and then their was a bicycle ride. You could literately watch the first 2 episodes and the last episode and not miss anything.

Does it have good music? Sure. But all anime have good music. And if half the time, there is a concert with trash music, what does it matter if you have good music the other half? Most anime have banger soundtracks the whole time.

So basically nothing happens in ... this anime until the last episode so don't waste your time, just watch the first few then skip to the last episode and you will probably like it, don't worry you didn't miss anything, trust.

I'm just going to start off the review by saying that I really enjoyed this anime.

On one hand, even though there was never comedic tone throughout the series, I was laughing every episode. The way they took such a ridiculous concept so serious was hilarious.

This anime is the perfect test for if you like shonen or not. This series proved that you can apply the shonen formula to anything and it will be hype. There is a manga where a girl turns into a spider but because they use the shonen formula it is not wierd at all.

It also has a concept where ... it makes you go "I have to see this" making it very easy to get into like some other anime.

I found myself hyped up at their abilities and battles and that made it even funnier for me.

I am a simple man if I enjoy something I give it a good score. 8/10 (maybe I will re-watch it one day and it will become a 9/10 but not yet)

This anime is so good, definitely one of my favorite romance anime of all time. It doesn't stretch things out for 30 episodes like other anime. Every episode is a banger, the story is funny, interesting and exciting.

The guy being messed up gives the anime a lot of conflict which most romance anime like. I really don't understand why people would hate this anime. Maybe people don't like conflict. Maybe people take anime too seriously and think the guy is a bad person so they don't like it but it is anime who cares.

I wish there were more anime like this instead of season ... 2 of everything.

When I was first watching the anime it was just fun, but then at episode 7 things got real, and then at episode 16 it was really intense and heart was beating and then the ending was insanely good.

As soon as I finished this series I re watched it. And if you think about it the way it uses its characters is genius. Introducing a character that is comparable to the mc (but very different at the surface) in order to develop the mc quickly along with this side character who no longer feels like a side character.

Usui is the best chad in anime, ... enough said. I like how his room is just empty because he doesn't care about anything in life except for Misaki.

The music is perfect for the atmosphere the show tries to create. The ending is a banger KIETO MADA AIIEROOOOO.

As you can tell I am a fanboy but like I said at the start it starts off normal so don't expect it to be like say I love you where it hits you immediately with a bang (although the beginning is still great).

I really enjoyed this series but it is not as good as people say.

My main problem with it is the art is not very good. You might give excuses like its old but cowboy bebop had good art and fluid animation. Believe it or not art is really important. I also didn't really like the music and thought it was cringy.

The romance was pretty good. The story was also very interesting and sort of pooled me in enough to make you want to watch despite the cringy music/bad art.

Overall, I just enjoyed it but I don't think it is very overrated. But honestly ... most people who wouldn't praise this series would drop it in the first episode anyway so I guess it makes sense that it has a high score.

This gets me so hot every time I read it, my heart is beating fast and honestly no other manga affects me this way so ya. Funny, great characters, hype moments, limitless conflict and spicy romance. Honestly, that's all you need. Favorite manga hands down and its not even close.

Also, the art is really good. It makes you go back and stare at it just to appreciate it and gives the series a lot of reread value.


I really don't know what else to write here but they said to make it longer but lets be honest nobody wants to read a review that is ... a hundred pages long. It is also annoying to summarize the plot in a review, why do people do this?

The art is what makes this series outstanding. A lot of artists can draw manga but no artist can draw the subtle expressions so perfectly the way this artist does it (except maybe Grand Blue). Every chapter, lit my computer on fire because the romance was too spicy.

If she/he wanted to she could ship the main character with a rock and have you on board in 2 panels. It's is that good. I read from chapter 29 where the anime leaves off. People who don't rate the art highly probably just didn't notice or haven't read the more recent chapters where the art really shines.
