This anime is romance between 12 year olds, it follows two couples Hanabi x Yuuto and Yui x Kazuma. Aside of the romance it's also has their school life but also I think friendship is also a major part in this series. I would describe this anime as quite cheesy, cliche, cute, charming, immature and silly.
As a romance fan, I enjoyed this show. The greatest thing was, although these characters are much younger then most animes, they had more progress and development with there relationship than current shoujo anime out there. We have the couples get together from the first episodes, it's quite sudden
...
and spontaneous, but love is like that. It was nice not to have to wait 12-24 episodes for just a confession but just get straight to it. There love is very innocent and shy, and more often than not, they're blushing over everything!! it's adorable but maybe on the excessive side. They're shy to tell how they feel, but slowly start to open up more as it goes on and you'll probably get more openness than most anime.
Ohhh so many cheesy lines and sparkly moments, but hey I guess it comes out that way when you say your true feelings. I'm just glad this side was even present in this anime, because usually characters are in denial of their feelings or hide them.
So being 12 year olds, other then just romance, the anime also deals with getting there period, buying their first bra, etc.
I love the art, it remind me of the old school art style but touched up for this day. It has this realistic look when it comes to the style and overall appearance for example their hairstyles. The main characters, especially Hanabi, wear different outfits each day and some quite cute ones actually. I like how they put detail into changing their clothes everyday, even down to different hair ties.
The characters are quite cliche, and the supports are quite annoying. For example Kokoa, a girl interested in Yuuto always gets in the way and stirring trouble. But she reminds me of the team rocket in the sense she always has to turn up in every episode just to be shut down in the end, probably only to bring the couple closer together. Same with the boys in their class, always nosing into the couples business and getting in the way. But they're kids afterall.
There;s also the character Marin, best friend of Yui and Hanabi. Although she's left out of the group with no boyfriend she's always playing her part by giving wise love advise and being enthusiastic support to her friends.
Also I did like the chemistry between to the two couples, there love is just so charming and innocent.
Of course this wouldn't be a romance without a love rival (who isn;t actually much of a rival) but it;s just totally necessary to keep up the cliche story so we have to chuck him in somewhere ;)
I love the OP! it fits in the anime so well, it's upbeat and fun with good romance lyrics to fit in the story. The background sound was good, aswell the music, it;s quite happy tune that reminds me of christmas lol
Overall, I would recommend this to girls who want their romance dose, specially if you go for the old school style over the romance anime's nowadays! but the older audience may have a hard time watching with it's immaturity of kids and cliche characters $ plot.

Simply put, this show is short but sweet. There's not much story as it's just short clips from different couples lives.
They can be cute, sweet, sad or touching with a different feel to each one. Although they're less than 2mins, it'll probably manage to leave you feeling something. What I love is the characters feel very realistic to real people, rather than your typical anime character. The situations are something's that can happen in real life and I felt like I was watching behind the scenes of real life Japanese relationships at some of the best of moments. This makes it relatable for some.. or
...
probably for most people - feel envious of the romance and crave to find that special someone so they can experience these special moments in love.
The art is very simple, it's just sketch style, with simple movements and very empty backgrounds. The characters are designed very simply and look more towards real people rather than the anime style, but I like it.
When it comes to sound they only use one them song to soundtrack the whole series a soft tone and relaxing song with cute lyrics and it set the scene well for the anime.
Overall I felt it fell a bit flat, since everything about it seemed quite budget and felt it had alot more potential to be something great. But it was still quirky in it's own way despite this. I enjoyed watching it in the sense it was certainly a nice escape from shoujo anime and just straight into those romantic moments you're just dying to see. So it was a good chance to get my dose of romance I'm always wanting to watch.
I would recommend this to those hopeless romantics, you will be able to appreciate this anime the most!

So I was watching Kodocha up to about halfway and I had a blast!! it's one of those anime's that just keeps you wondering what happens next, I was thinking about the show as I slept at night. At this time I would've gave it it a 10. But upon completing it I was rather disappointed so I had to lower it a bit.
First things first, I went into this anime expecting some real deal romance, thinking 102 episodes should be enough to bring on some real development. So if you're going into this anime for that, I don't recommend it, it's as slow paced
...
and dragged as a 12-24 episode typical shoujo anime in this day. Note it is also involve love triangle/squares. The annoying thing about this anime is they lead you on with the romance, right when it you think it's going somewhere... the anime is diverted in some other direction!! which is a shame since there was so much potential for the romance, Sana and Akito had truly great chemistry!
If you are here more for the drama and comedy. This is for you!
This is drama and comedy show at it's best, the best part is it's NOT CLICHE. This is what make's it so great, it's quite refreshing.
There are very few anime's around that can actually make me laugh out loud, and this is one of them. The first half of the anime was hilarious but as it goes on it does start to die out. The drama is so crazy and silly all the time, the plot twists are so unexpected, I love not knowing what's going to happen next.
It;s a emotional roller coaster, you will cry, you will laugh, you will be angry and you will also be touched!
The art is old school style, although I think it was good for it's time! I actually like this style because the characters look realistic, like real people. No crazy hairstyles here, and not stereotypical characters to match their hair colour.
The characters are some of the best I've come across.
They are so funny and unique and some will be like nothing you've come across before. Even the supporting characters actually have more depth and personality to them then you may expect.
I really loved Akito, Sana and her mother, and more. There's so much to say about them!! Its rare to take a liking to so many characters in one series.
The one thing I wish they didn't have in this show though.. is Babbit. This character makes such unnecessary comments and pops out all the time. He got annoying quick!
The sound is nothing to rave about but for it's day I guess it was okay. But I found the same music was quite overused.
But the opening song and dance alone was great. After first hearing it I knew this anime would be great. Even 102 episodes later that Op still puts me in a good mood and want to dance along.
Also Sana's occasional music/singing skits throughout the show were a fun touch!
So I watched the first 52 episodes in dubbed. But actually I never watch dubbed for anything, the voices always sound so wrong and don't match at all. But wow.. In Kodocha they're so good. But it made watching episodes in Japanese later a bit hard - the Japanese just didn't compare.
Overall, I was unimpressed with the romance development only to be led on all the time. Also everything was extremely dragged out, you will need to be patient, with all the fillers and sidetracked episodes. The ending also leaves you hanging and incomplete when I was expecting it to be all wrapped up considering it had so many episodes. This show actually had so much potential to go further.
But on the plus side, it's much deeper than it may appear, and you will be moved along the way, grow attached to the characters, you will be addicted and the 102 episodes will fly by!

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is another RPG themed anime. But not just any other, it manages to differentiate it's self from the others in many ways, what I could appreciate most was how real it felt and the struggles to survive.
I really enjoyed this anime, it was so touching and full of emotions! from adrenaline rush.. seriousness, to depressing moments... It was actually quite touching and inspiring at times! It was a real journey. I can say I even cried in this anime.
Don't be put off by the slow pace, they start out killing goblins for alot of the series, but it reminded
...
me when I used to play a MMOPRG called RuneScape, one of the first things I fought.. Goblins! you have to start at the bottom and work your way up. They learnt more techniques, skills and saved up for better equipment. You may think goblins are nooby, but for low levels like them with no skill, it was actually so intense to watch and required alot of tactics. The goblins are the same, they;re also fighting for there life, they don't want to be killed either, they have their own life they want to keep living for.
What blew me away at first was the art, usually I wouldn't describe anime as "art".. more like "animation". But the art literally looks like artwork, like paint and sketching. It's hard to come across such beautiful animation nowadays. I think this is one of main things everyone can appreciate out of this anime.
Usually there isn't much to say about the sound of a anime. But what was interesting about this one is it has a real soundtrack, there's times in the anime where they will only play music and show scenes, with no dialogue. Although this can be as a waste of time, since I remember some of the earlier episodes spending what felt like half the episode doing this. Maybe they could've used the time more wisely. Although as it goes on it's not used near as much as in the beginning. But they used a good range of different songs to soundtrack this series.
What I love most about the characters is that they're -realistic-. No overpowered MC's here! They're randomly put in this situation in a RPG-like world, with no memory how they got there or their past. A bunch of different personalities have to work together as a team. With the slow pace we have time to get to know the characters.. although slowly but surely, we see alot of development in such a short time of 12 episodes, I felt like they had come a long way in that time. We were able to see different sides to them , see them open up, at there most vulnerable and at there best. Some personalities are more stronger than others, and we get to know some to a more deeper level more than others. But everyone plays a important role since the team work in this anime is a vital part.
If i had to say what I didn't like, it would be the fan-service!! I'm a girl myself so naturally I guess I thought it was inappropriate or tacky. I kind of wished the anime went without it.. it feel it was bringing it down.
This anime was truly beautiful in appearance and emotionally. Hoping for a season 2 and more. There's still un-answered questions and so much potential to see how they grow further and how their bonds with eachother progress, hopefully some romance!? ;)
Btw my review is purely based on the anime it's self - I haven't read the novel.

This is now one of my favourite animes, this is my first review so bare with me, I've never felt like writing one til i watched this anime. As a fan of yaoi/shounen ai this was a breath of fresh air as it's so hard to find decent animes in this genre because there are little to choose from and they're lacking in every department.
This is a -absolute must- watch for fans of the yaoi and shounen-ai, but also i would highly recommend it for those new to it and want to check it out, it would make a good starter into these genres
...
because it's quite cute, nice animation, likeable characters, good development in only 11 episodes and also it's quite tame when it comes to the sexual things compared to other ones like Junjou Romantica, yet it's still enough too excited about.
Izumi stared in a wedding commerical with Ryouma when they were younger and since then Ryouma has loved her..ahem him... ever since. Later they meet in a reunion commercial and Ryouma's love is releaved.. and so is Izumi's real gender, but that doesn't stop his love. And so Ryouma pursues Izumi. Izumi plays the Uke, he's very cute, and loveable i just wanted to squeeze him to bits. Ryouma as a famous actor I wasn't expecting him to be a such a lovable character. He was so sweet, caring and kind.. it was cute seeing what love does to him, he was the kind of guy I would want as my man. Overall I really liked them as a couple. The supporting charcaters were great aswell, especially Izumi's brother he's quite funny.
Though there's only 11 episodes I was worried no way that's enough and I'll be disappointed cause it will leave me hanging incomplete. But actually it developed further than I thought in such the short time it was nice. Unlike other romance animes you have to wait for 24+ episodes just for a confession or even a kiss. I was excited for each episode and how it'd progress next.
The art was nice and especially the detail in Izumi eyes, so pretty. Only bad thing was lets say Izumi is walking down the street.. he will be detailed and everything but all the background people are whited out figures like ghosts or something which was a bit lazy.
There's not really any music in the anime it'self other than the OP and ED, they're really catchy I would always sit through them, usually I skip through the Op and ED on animes and get straight to watching the anime.
Only downside was that Izumi is a hardout fan of a anime La la Lulu which i found a bit childish but it goes with his cute character but after awhile it was bit annoying, especially that La La Lulu alarm clock omg lol. But it effected the anime to where there were La La Lulu scenes.. some which toke minutes that I had to skip and I didn't see the point of myself and just wasted the screen time.
Make sure you watch the OVA aswell for a total of 11 episodes. Though i wish there was more - there's alot of potiental for 2nd season, though the 11 are still satisfying.
Overall don't miss out on this anime even if you don't watch shounen-ai, this is a good place to start especially if you're into the romance genre. I tend to watch only romance animes and the romance in this anime was great it got me excited and fangirling on the other side of the screen. So give it ago you won't regret it :)
